The 1976 Links is proudly dedicated to Mr. William Bogar who after 26 years of leadership will retire this spring from the position of principal at Lincoln High School. Page six has been used to commemorate this outstanding person
life, a univers with .other people W purpose in life and sha they then are ~ble ''to once."
Retirement Planned
Mr. Bogar, LHS principal for 26 years, will not be seen next fall, in the halls or cafeteria talking to students
-Announcing his early retirement in January, Mr. Bogar has seen many improvements in Lincoln High since 1950 There is more freedom for students to develop for careers or college as courses now number around 360 from 205 in the early 50's. "This variety and quarter classes helps the student prepare for life outside school," said Mr. Bogar . Mr Bogar feels that students are essentially the same except that the generation now may be more aware to the outside world. Mr. Bogar pinpointed one of his objectives as guarding the rights of the people in the school and contacting the student body, as a principal cannot efficiently run a school without knowing its members
Upper right picture: Mr Bogar , who announced his early retirement from the position of LHS principal , has a very rigorous game plan after retirement which includes many community improvement activities Upper left picture: Mrs Rhoades served as Mr Bogar ' s personal secretary. Lower right picture: Interested in the construction taking place at Lincoln H i gh , Mr Bogar was not sati sfied at just reading reports of con struction progress He would watch and talk with construct i on teams to find out the true situ ation The new library and oth e r updates on the building were main concerns of 1976
Picture at right: Taking time from a busy schedule to pose at his desk , Mr Bogar will leave his office after 26 years of service but his work and policies will not

NOTH I NG GOLD CAN ST A Y
Nature ' s first green is gold, Her hardest hue to hold
Her early leaf's a flower; But only so an hour
Then leaf subsides to leaf
So Eden sank to grief , So dawn goes down to day
Nothing gold can stay.

LHS Council Reaches Toward Students
The LHS Student Council took on more of a responsible air this year, as the members tried to focus more on the whole student body, rather than just certain people
During the first semester, the council had a large campaign on skipping classes Several posters were placed around the school, as well as some sound announcements made during second period, emphasizing the importance of being in class
Second semester, the Council worked on a student exchange day, in ¼hich students from LHS would trade ;; laces with students from another school, and gain new ideas in student government
Good leadership is a must in any form of government, and Lincoln High ' s Council was represented well when first semester President Lori Maxfield was elected District President in the State Student Council Convention
The Council also busied itself with the annual Spring Week, Sadie Hawkins, Fifties Day, and several B.Y.O B 's (Bring Your Own Broom); efforts to clean up the school parking lots The Council also had foosball and air hockey games installed in the cafeteria, but misuse forced them to be removed
Money-making projects were in abundance, as the Council sold the usual pencils, antenna flags, book covers, student directories and hats and mittens; after other clubs tried to sel I them
Mr Crosscup sponsored Student Cou n cil, and when he couldn't oversee some of the meetings or events, Mr Losh or Mr Diffenderfer, co-sponsors, watched over the proceedings
A b ove : A short-lived luxury was the air hockey game. Ri gh t: Many students showed up for this year's Sadie Hawkins dance, the "Barnyard Blitz."

Seniors Group Ideas; Plaque Chosen as Gift
Chosen by their peers, the Senior Steering Committee was made up of those students who would best represent their graduating class
Probably the main thing on the agenda at their meetings was what to give the school as a class gift, and how to pay for it A bronze plaque was finally decided on , and it was paid for by selling things such as candy canes and hats and mittens

School Play : Melodrama Proven Successfu
This year's all-school play, "Deadwood Dick," was presented Nov. 1, before a filled auditorium , and under the direction of Mr Bob Fey and the student d i rection of Diane Kramer , the show was a big hit with LHS
The pl ay was a melodrama , whi c h allowed for audience p articipation There were boos when the villain appeared , c h e er s when the heroes walked on , and sighs w hen the heroine s t old their sob stories At the end of the show , as is usual in melodramas , there were coins thrown upon the sta ge
The time period was the gay 90 ' s, and the entire show took place in " Calamity Jane ' s Man-Trap Saloon, " in a town called Deadwood Gulch.
The play had all the aspects of a good melodrama : long - lost relatives , kidnapped heroines , secret mines and hair-breadth escapes galore!
The heroines of this play were Lily and Rose Blossom , and Lily ' s blindness added all the more to the plot Ned Harris and Wild Bill Hickock were the handsome , stalwart heroes Blackman Redburn , or Black ' n Red , was the black-hearted villain. Calamity Jane was a typical dance hall hostess.
Then there was Judge Nix , who never quite succeeded in his attempts to be dignified ; Sheriff Loveless , the soused law-enforcer and Molly Loveless , his wife who was , in truth , Lily ' s real mother.
No melodrama would be the same without characters like Chet Pussy , the assistant villain ; La Paloma, Black ' n Red ' s gun-toting mistress; Pong Ping , a squeaking Chinese heathen ; or Teetotal Tessie, the battle-ax of Deadwood Gulch. Piano Pete furnished the gay 90 ' s-type music. Toughs were played by Corky Ford , John Evans , and Paul Hopgood.
Teetotal Tessie ' s hatcheteers were played by Diane Kramer , Jan Thomas and Donna Stuver The dance hall girls were Marcia Sprague , Terri Enyeart , Becky Mientka , Robin St eele , Erin Blank and Jeanne Owens.

Poma li nks Give Entertainin g Perf orman ces
With only one previous year of drill team knowledge backing therr1 up, the LHS Pomalinks worked hard all summer to learn and perfect their routines for half-time shows and pep rallies
Under the co-leadership of Becky Mientka and Robin Steele, the Pomalinks came to school every day during the summer at 6 :3 0 a m to go over routines they learned at different clinics. They had a chance to test their know-how by performing at the state fair
The Pomalinks also earned money for coats this year by selling candy and gifts, and selling at various service activities.
Sponsored by Mrs Stoehr and Mrs Grant, the 18 members of Pomalinks held and attended pre-game dinners; and still had time for commitments in Pep Club.

Starting the new school year with a debt of a few hundred dollars , the Pep Club got itself reorganized, and by selling candy bars, made a profit of over one thousand dollars
The club also sold T-shirts and continued the tradition of keeping Lincoln High as spirited as possible. This was a little easier this year with the help of the "J ock Squad," comprised of L Club members. They attended sporting events and tried their best to learn all the cheers.
The Pep Club worked out a new system of points this year, also Along with the usual merits a Pepper could earn, demerits were given for certain offenses, such as not attending a required event, or improper behavior while in uniform
Sponsoring the Pep Club this year are Mrs. Ja.udzemis, Miss Lehmanowski , Mrs. Quincy and Mrs. Sayre.

Cheerleaders Practice , Plan, Perform Well
Before and after school practices, planning pep rallies, leading cheers these are but a few of the things the Varsity and Reserve Cheerleaders accomplished throughout the school year.
Summer clinics brought these spirited girls home with the sacred " Spirit Stick," given to the squad showing the most enthusiasm during their stay.
Fall and winter sports had them raising spirit at rallies and games, yelling their lungs out; and win or lose, finishing each game with the familiar cheer : " We're the Links! We're the L-1-N-K-S!" Spring saw them teaching cheerleading clinics of their own for tryouts, of which the winners would start the cycle over again.
Officers for Varsity Cheerleaders were : Tracey Gabelman, President; Sue Carter, Vice President; Robin Williams, Secretary; and Sue Underhill, Treasurer Mrs. Kay La hrs is the sponsor of both squads

Band Gains New Instructor, New Divisions
Lincoln High did more than just gain a new band director this year. With the arrival of Dr. Lee Mendyk, who has instructed at such places as Loveland Public Schools, in Colorado; Wayne State College; and the University of Kansas, the instrumental music department saw some changes
Steve Eckel and Judy Brown were appointed major and majorette for the Marching Band. Pep Band, which played at rallies and basketball games, was the combined efforts of Concert Band and Symphonic Wind Ensemble, a new addition also.
Concert Band did an excel lent job of performing at the Al I-City Band Contest, held in Apri I. A second place was won for their effort, being bested by rival East.
Dr. Mendyk stated that the reason for such changes was to keep up with progress, as schools on the coasts have already gone to such measures. He stated that it would have just been a matter of time.

Orchestra Explores
With the arrival of a new director this year , the Orchestra was mainly busy with the group and Dr Mendyk adjusting to each other, so a somewhat relaxed a i r was taken up to al low them to get prepared for next year.
Tim e was taken out , though , for the members to participate in the annual All City Orc h estra Festival, and they also kept up the tradition of providing accompanyment for the school ' s musi c al, " Oklahoma! ".
Students also took time once again to try out and attend the State Music Clinic , which was a rewarding experience for all of those who participated.
Next year should be full of activities for this musical ensemble , as _they work for harmony between students and , instruments; and students and director

Wind Ensemble New
Symphonic Wind Ensemble was another new addition to the instrumental music department this year. According to Dr Mendyk, the organization of the Wind Ensemble was two-fold.
First, it gave each student the chance to c ontinue to p e rform on the instrument at the level their musical skills are developed upon entering high school. Second, the co ncept of the Symphonic Wind Ensemble is a new one, and its conductors are striving for wind music to achieve it s ri g ht f ul place along with other serious musical media in the concert hal I
Although many members were in orchestra also, the Symphonic Wind Ensemble gave the students a different so und, as such stringed instruments like cellos and violins didn't play in this group. This factor also added to the individuality of their performances
With an attitude like that , you can be sure that Symphonic Wind En se mble will be making a great impression wherever its members play
For a group that started this yea r, Wind Ensemble had a large turnout , under the direction of Dr. Lee Mendyk.

Stage Band Finds Year Hectic, Rewarding
Lincoln High ' s Stage Band had a school year full of performances When they weren ' t actually giving a concert , they were constantly preparing for their next show
The customary red suits were dropped this year, and Dr. Mendyk had the stage band wearing casual suits of their own choosing This added to the individuality of the group
Besides performances at LHS and other Lincoln schools , the Stage Band played at the Kiwanis Pancake Feed , the University of Nebraska Jazz Festival , the Nebraska Athletic Association Banquet, and the Sertoma Pancake Feed
Dr Mendyk also had several students solo during different songs when they gave concerts This action brought rousing applause from their audiences, and gave the studen t s a chance to expose their talent
With Dr Mendyk directing them at all these events , the Sta ge Band played such famous songs as " Real George ," and " Quincy and the Count

Musical Groups Practice fo r To ne and Unity
Me m bers of Boys Glee and Concert Girls Glee were two choral groups who sang in assemblies and other special functions. The Vespers Assembly and Concert Girls Glee's selections from C aba re t in Joy Night were two of the more memorable performances.
Chosen on a tryout basis, they worked with the respective instructors to achieve a tone and quality most desirable.
Mr Joseph Skutchan and Miss Dorthea Gore were the instructors.
Madrigals is a singing group made up of juniors and seniors who sang a selection of music ranging from the 17th century Madrigal to the popular music of today . The Optimists and the Elks clubs, plus a variety of churches were some of the groups they performed for They also gave a salute to America in their Joy Night performance

Tactful Attempts to Entertain, Successful
A 'Potpourri of Talent, Trivia, and Other Tactful Attempts at Entertainment' was the theme of this year's Joy Night presentation.
It was an anything goes situation with performances ranging from almost all facets of the entertainment field. There were skits such as "Noah," with Harlen Ford in the title role; "Ain't Got the Money," a tale of a farm family which laments over their lack of money; and a take-off on the popular television program, "Welcome Back Kotter," with Mr. George Ayoub in the title role as the curly-haired, mustachioed - teacher who continually tries to tame the unruly sweat hogs, played by L.H.S staff members.
John Ingram and Darrell Davis did a notable job as Emcee's, while the stage crew and the Joy Night Central Committee under the supervision of Mr. Robert Fey, helped with the over all assembly and production of the program.
With the diversity and appeal of the program, this year's Joy Night may well be termed a success.

Clubs Provide Service
Usherettes and Assembly Committee are two groups which compliment each other in their purposes. •
The Assembly Committee is a group comprised of both student and faculty members who throughout the year plan and approve assemblies. Ideas are drawn randomly from students and faculty alike, and are put into effect according to taste, interest, and relevancy to the student body A few assemblies approved through the committee were the Vespers Christmas assembly and a musical group representing Campus Life
Usherettes is a service club composed of sophomore girls who volunteer their time to seat and hand-out programs to guests during public performances such as Honors Convocation and Joy Night Cited Usherette Cathy Mann, " It ' s really fun, and you get to know some girls and teachers "

Committees Work to Voice Student Opinion
The Student Advisory Board and the newly formed Community Council were two committees allowing the LH S student voice to be heard
Community Council was new this year, started by some concerned parents with the backing of Mr. Bogar. The purpose of the organization was to better the LHS community by providing a forum for persons who constitute the Lincoln High area
A city bus route from Air Park , through Belmont, to LHS was established with the help of this group, alleviating the transportation problem for some students in these areas
Members were chosen according to the junior high school area where ·they live.
Five students from each high school made up the Superintendent ' s Advisory Board. This panel was formed over four years ago by Dr. John Prasch to provide student representation at school board meetings
Lori Maxfield, a member of the board, proposed a change in the honor roll system for the Lincoln high schools.
Among other things , a change in the school year and open campus were topics of discussion

Alterations Don't Bother Co-Ed Counselors
Co-Ed Counselors, one of Lincoln High's first active clubs in the school year, faced a big change this year, which hampered the club's tradition a bit. Due to construction, the usual tour of the school to acquaint incoming sophomores with LHS took a little more time than usual.
This year's Co-Ed Counselors ' tea was held August 28, at 2:00 p.m. The new sophomores brought sack lunches and, after a program rightly titled, "Get to Know Lincoln High," were given a tour of LHS, which not only got the sophomores oriented, but also gave the guides a chance to find relocated classes.
Sponsored by Mrs. Fisher, Mrs. Furr and Mrs. Grant; the officers for Co-Ed Counselors were : Amy Dutton, President; Deanna Mumgaard, 1st Vice President; Krisanne Ricketts, 2nd Vice President; Sue Hobbs, Secretary; Debra Rohan, Treasurer; Cathy Nun, Historian; and Kelly Leonard, Parliamentarian.

Paper Earns Praise by Press Association
" to inform the students of Lincoln High and community activities, as well as national subjects of interest " was what Editor Chris Harris cited as the purpose of Lincoln High's newspaper, the Advocate. Through practice and hard work, the staff worked together to produce the best possible paper, stressing student imput, stories of interest to the readers, and journalistic merit
Under the supervision of Mike Diffenderfer for the second year, the publication has shown improvement. At the 1975 NHSPA (Nebraska High School Press Association) convention, the Advocate placed third out of all class "A" newspapers in the state, preceded by Southeast High's " Clarion," and Omaha Westside ' s "Lance.'' This was the first time in 21 years the publication had placed in statewide competition.
Another goal of the newspaper was to present stories on
diverse subjects. Stories ranged from the faring of the various sports teams, to such community activities as concerts, and a "Christmas In A Bunkcar," an article on one LHS student whose family actually resided in a railway car.
Major positions were held by the following students: Sue Spahn, Student Advisor ; Chris Harris, Managing Editor; Jeff Rump, Senior Sports Editor; Greg Heckman, Sports Editor; Sue Cakl and Tracy Cooper, first semester Associate Editors; Lori Maxfield, Sue Cakl, and Linda Allen, second semester Associate Editors; and Erick • Hoffmaster and Jody Schwab were the business managers with assistance from Miss Betty Heckman. Interest in th~ · journalism field h as grown at Lincoln High in the past few years, with this continued interest and talent; the Advocate as well as the other publications at LHS should be worthy of unlimited praise

For the first time, juniors were allowed to be on the Links staff, and work on putting together a good yearbook started early in the summer. This insured a better idea of knowing what to do when the school year started
The theme of this year's Links was decided on during the summer, as well as most of the ads being sold. As is evident, a new arrangement was also decided on and members of the staff even started thinking of how they wanted their sections to look
Rough drafts were drawn up of each page, leaving the right amount of space for cutlines, copy , headlines and pictures After a page was turned in, two or three white proofs were sent back to be looked over for any mistakes Then the Links staff got back silver proofs of what the final page would really look like These were carefully studied for misspellings and the like
When those pages were sent in, that was it. The final product which was anxiously awaited was put to press and delivered to students and staff at LHS.

Juniors Participate In County Government
December first was County Government Day this year. Also termed Participation Day, students in the junior class, after going through the primary and general election, had an on the spot view of their county government in action.
Upon reaching the City-County Building, the participants reported to their respective offices and met the actual official who headed their office
After seeing a film on the " Duty of a Juror" and a tour of the building , a luncheon was held at the Lincoln Hilton sponsored by the Legion Club.
The day was a success as these LHS students and others across the county gained a valuable insight into their county government as well as the world of politics as a whole.

Sports
Always striving for the best record or a team victory, sports help to mold a person ' s individual character and outlook as well as help their bodies physically. Sports minded people usually have a strong desire to win and succeed in what they are trying to accomplish. No matter what the season record may be , an individual who was involved in sports should be satisfied if he did his utmost to succeed

Young Links Have Off Year; Look to Future
The 1975 season was one of great disappointment for the LHS gridders, as they finished the year with a dismal 1-8 record Though eleven lettermen returned from last year's winning team, only four starters were among them and inexperience was a problem for the Links throughout the season. Lack of consistency and the failure to generate much offense were other problems Coach Ball's squad had to contend with
The season started out very poorly for the Black and Red as they dropped consecutive shutouts to Grand Island, Papillion, and Scottsbluff. The Links finally garnered their first points in the fourth game of the season against Northeast This gave them a short - lived 7-0 lead but Northeast went on to win that game by 33-7 Then, after two close losses to Southeast and Millard, the gridders sandwiched their only victory between losses to Ralston and Lincoln East. That win came against top ten rated North Platte by a score of 10-0 It was especially gratifying to Head Coach Jerry Ball since it came on his birthday.
There were a few bright spots in this gloomy season One was the determined play of the Links defensive platoon Despite several letdowns , they played
remarkably well for the inexperienced unit that they were. Junior noseguard Randy Hitz, along with seniors Dan Vonz and Mike Smith spearheaded the defense. Hitz was the leading tackler with 80 stops and Smith was the· only LHS player to make the all-city team. Seniors Gary Hart, Doug Larkins, and Dwain Borchers were also top defenders for Lincoln High •
The offense was very inconsistent and lacked balance as LHS managed to average only one touchdown and 183 yards per game Dean Carstens was the signal-caller after replacing John Beaver at the start of the season He threw for over 700 yards but was very erratic as he only completed 37% of his passes. Gary Hart was the leading receiver with 21 receptions for 307 yards. The rushing game lacked balance as Uduak Udofia carried over half the time for two-thirds of Lincoln High's yards Other than Udofia only Mike Fallstead with 129 yards gained more than 100 yards.
Cited for their play on both offense and defense were Charlie Metzger, Hart, Smith, and Udofia .
With most of the team back for next year, along with many fine players from the winning Reserve and Sophomore Squads , the 1976 gridders should definitely improve
Halfback Mike Fallstead breaks loose for a 40 yard scamper against Millard , the longest run of the year for a LHS back second leading ground gainer

Sophomore Todd Richards can testify that practice does make perfect.

Reserve Gridders Reach Pre-Season Goals
Determination was the key word for this year's Reserve football team. They set goals of becoming a fundamentally sound and physically tough squad before the season began and by year's end Head Coach Bill Story thought they had become just that.
Though they suffered two quick losses to open the season, and key injuries to I-back Art Becker and quarterback Scott Carlson, the Reserves refused to fold They came back to post five consecutive victories after the two setbacks and finished the year with a 5-3 winning record.
The tough defense was the backbone of the team as they held the opposition to under 10 points per game, including the two shutouts they posted. Ron Glover was the leading tackler with 103 stops and Dan Lococo and Darrell Temple were close behind.
The offensive unit also did their part as they averaged over 20 points per game . Quarterback Doug Simpson and I-back Corky Ford filled in well for the injured Carlson and Becker, as Ford rushed for over 500 yards and Simpson had an amazing 57% completion average. Fullback Don Warnke and end Jeff Brooks along with offensive lineman Mike Rengstorf were also standouts on offense
Though there were many fine individual performers on the team, Coach Story emphasized teamwork and depth as the 1975-76 team's chief strengths.
RESERVE FOOTBALL: Row 1: S. Mathews, J. Story, M. Steen, H Ford, A. Ozaki, M. Shrader, C Schwisow, J. Coffman, D. Simpson Row 2: Student

Coaches Story and Zuspan led the Reserve football team to a fine 5 win and 3 loss season. They attributed the squad's success to teamwork and individual toughness.
Sophs Record Second Straight 4-2 Season
The 1975 edition of the Sophomore Football Team enjoyed their second consecutive winning season by posting a fine four win and two loss record This was good enough for third place in the city and a second place tie in the 1-80 Conference •
The first-year men opened the year with a , 12-0 whitewash of 1-80 Conference foe , Papillion The next two games were disappointing losses to city rivals Northeast and Southeast However the Sophs came back after that to finish the year with consecutive victories over Millard , Ralston , and Lincoln East The final triumph over East was particularly rewarding in that it came in a hard fought 16--14 contest and thrust the Links into second place in the 1-80
The squad's offense was paced by Gary Kinney, Dan Gerlach, and Dave Koca Halfback Kinney led the ground attack with 419 yards The aerial game was sparked by the Gerlach to Koca combination Quarterback Gerlach fin i shed the year with 29 completions and an impressive 6'1 % completion average End Dave Koca caught five passes for 121 y ards , giving him a spectacular average of 24 yards per catch .· Gerlach was also the scoring leader with 38 points
Dave Koca was the ringleader of a tou g h defense which never allowed more than three touchdowns in any one game He finished the year with a team leading 79 tackles and added three interceptions Bill Pickerill was close behind with 58 tackles
With these and many other fine individuals cor11ing back for two more years of competition , Lincoln High can look forward to a fine future ir football.

·1974 state singles champ Larry Rugg led the team with a 31 - 4 season record
With defending state singles champion Larry Rugg and lettermen Max Brandt and Mitch Hrdlicka back from the 1974 state championship team, Coach Chuck Friesen had high hopes for this year's tennis team These hopes were brightened even further by the return of 1973 letterman Eric Shanks and the transfer of Pius X ace Casey Lien to LHS
These five seniors were the backbone of a team which had an 8-2 dual record and a third place finish at the state tournament The finish at state could have been higher had it not been for the upset of defending champ Rugg in the semi's The doubles team of Brandt and Lien also was beaten in the semifinals.
One of the highlights of the season was an 8-1 victory
over Lincoln Southeast. This was the Links first dual win over the Knights in 16 years. Another big moment was the one point victory for the netters in the 1-80 Conference Championships. This was accomplished on the strength of Larry Rugg's come from behind triumph over arch rival Randy Johnson of Southeast in the last match of the tournament.
Everybody on the varsity had a winning record in both singles and doubles play and the team as a whole won 59 out of 74 singles matches and 57 out of 72 doubles outings.

Winless Season Suffered by LHS Gymnasts
With only seven young men out for gymnastics this year , Coach Ray Fallstead ' s team experienced one of the worst seasons in the history of LHS gymnastics Suffering from lack of depth and experienced performers , the gymnasts went through the whole season without recording a single dual win- or finishing out of the cellar in any multi-team event They ended the year with a 0-6 dual record and finished at the bottom in the Trans-Nebraska , 1-80 , and district competition
The team was composed of only seven members ; three seniors and four sophomores Four members from last year ' s team failed to go out for gymnastics this year , and this severely hurt the squad
Senior lettermen Dan Shrader , Doug Wassung, and Steve Dunlap were the team leaders throughout the year and they did a very good job Shrader was the recipient of the LHS Outstanding Gymnast Award for the 1975 season as he performed excellently all year on the pommel horse He won the 1-80 and district titles in that event and was the only Black and Red performer to receive Lincoln Journal and Star Al I-City mention Shrader however missed by one place of winning a state medal , as he finished sixth at the state meet in the pommel horse Doug Wassung was the all-around performer for the Links and did a solid job throughout the season Dunlap was strongest in the parallel bars where he picked up a few dual victories
Of the underclassmen , Mark Beebout was the most impressive. He teamed with Dan Shrader to make the pommel horse Lincoln High ' s strongest event Allan Read participated in both the trampoline and parallel bars and did a good job for all his inexperience Sophomore Don Ginger was also a valuable asset to the team as he added depth in vaulting and on the trampoline
Coach Fallstead will have to rely on these sophomores next year , as the outlook for the team is again bleak with the top performers departing.

Cross Country was neither the most successful nor the most popular sport at Lincoln High this year. There were only ten men out for the 1975 team, including just two returning lettermen and two seniors Of the varsity runners , three were sophomores a.nd the lone senior was Brian Dowling
Dowling, the number one runner for the Links during 1974, had a disappointing season as he was plagued by injuries and illness throughout the year Alan Loos , another 1974 team member , missed the entire season with a hairline fracture, and the team as a whole was hard hit by injuries and illness
Only one dual win was posted by the harriers during the year That win came against Millard by a score of 25-31. Bill Gutierrez and Brian Dowling finished one-two in that meet to lead the Links. The best tournament finish by LHS came in the 1-80, where they took fifth place.
Gutierrez, a first-year junior , was the Links number one runner during the year He started out slow but finished the year in fine fashion with 11th place finishes at the 1-80 and district meets. Dowling , junior letterman Glenn Ashcraft , and sophomores Larry Jones, Tim McMeen, and Tyler Sprouse were the other top runners for Lincoln High this year .
In the city non-qualifiers meet, LHS won handily, signaling great things for next year ' s team. And indeed they should improve with only Dowling and John Fast graduating.

Class A Crown Won By LHS Volleyballers
The girls volleyball team provided much of the thrills for the fall sports fans at Lincoln High this year. They finished· the year with a 20-3 record and the first undisputed ,state title for Lincoln High since 1969. This was all accomplished under the leadership of first-year coach Joyce Johnson who replaced Nadine Sass.
Coach Johnson had high hopes of a successful season even before the first match of the year Coach Sass had left her with a wealth of talent from last year ' s state runner-ups. Four letterwinners were back including 1974 all-city choices Deb Van Dusen and Sue Bruce
However, despite all this talent the first match of the year was dropped by the Links in two straight games to Beatrice The linkswomen rebounded with consecutive wins over Hastings, Papillion, Northeast, Ralston, Grand Island, and Millard Then the LHS spikers were defeated by 1974 champ Lincoln East; 15-7, 10-15, 11-15. Following an easy win ys. Omaha Westside, Lincoln High was again upended, this time by Southeast in two out of three games. Having finished the regular season with an unimpressive 7-3 record, the Links headed into their tournament schedule as a darkhorse But the volleyballers were not to be topped in a match after this During these 13 straight victories, the team captured in order, the City, Trans-~'-lebraska, Eastern l-80 , District and State Championships
Of these championships, though, the state crown was what really mattered to the LHS girls. After last year's runner-up finish, the spikers were not about to settle for second best again.
Going into the state tournament the Links were seeded no two, but after Omaha South's upset loss in the first round it was the Links all the way. They disposed of cross-town rival Northeast in the first round, took care of Fremont in two out of three games in the semi-finals, and defeated North Platte by 15 - 4 and ·ts-13 for the championship.
Coach Johnson gave credit to the excellent teamwork and the desire the girls showed in proving they were the best in Nebraska. She also gave tribute to the fine program that former Coach Sass had left her with.
Individually the outstanding performers were Deb Van Dusen and Kathy Wilson. Both of these juniors were named to the Journal and Star all-state and all-city teams. Other fine players were seniors Sue Bruce, Jann Rathe, and Joan O'Connor, along with juniors Robin Hruby and Rachel Hillman
The Reserve Squad also did a great job as they rolled to an undefeated season and their second straight city title. With many fine players from that squad back for next year along with eight returning varsity players, the 1976 team should be just as good if not better than the 197'5 state titlists

Harris Sets Records;
Tearn Suffers Def eats
Sophomore sensation Barb Harris led this year's girls swim team to fourth place finishes at both the Trans-Nebraska and 1-80 Conference meets, and to a tenth place finish at the state meet. Harris, who could become the greatest athlete to compete at LHS, won every event she entered during the season and capped the year off with state championship finishes in the SO-yard freestyle and the 100-yard fly . Along the way she broke just about every record possible and came within two-tenths of a second of a national record in the SO-yard freestyle. She also qualified for All-American standing in several events.
However, swimming is a sport where depth counts heavily and Harris could not carry the whole team on her victories alone A lack of additional consistent performers behind Harris caused the swimmers to finish the year without recording a single dual meet triumph during al I of the 1975 season Coach Cotter's mermaids finished with a 0-7-1 record, with the tie coming against Ralston
One of the factors in the team's weak showings was the lack of experienced swimmers With absolutely no seniors on the team, and only two letter winners back from last year, LHS had to rely on mostly untested sophomores and juniors. Letterwomen Joette Larsen and Joy Stephens provided some leadership, as Larsen led the way in the butterfly and Stephens helped out in the freestyle events Some of the more consistent newcomers were Carla McCord, Carol Stephens, and Nancy Wheelock with Diane Bitenieks providing early season strength in diving
With everybody back for next year, including record-breaker Barb Harris , the Links' mer -w omen can look for a much improved season

District Runner-up Links Record 11-9 Year
In a season considered a building year for the Links by many, the cagers came along to where they were contenders for top honors Posting a winning record, the B-Ballers came within seven points of going to the State Tournament for the first time in more than a decade. LHS also won their first annual Holiday Tournament and finished in the first division of both the Trans-Nebraska and 1-80 Conferences
Only two lettermen, Charlie Metzger and Robert Robinson , returned from · last year 's squad, but a. surprisingly strong crop of sophomores helped the team tremendously, along with some excellent juniors Altogether, five sophs and four juniors saw some action for the varsity team
Though the squad was dominated by underclassmen in numbers , three seniors, Metzger, Russ Shepard, and College View Academy transfer Jon Parker, were the backbone of the 1975-76 Links Metzger led the team in total rebounds and scored at a 10.0 per game clip Guard Shepard was Lincoln High 's outside threat, as most of his team leading 236 points came from the 20-foot range Six-seven center Parker was only eligible to play in the last nine games of the year, but he played well enough to lead LHS in scoring average, rebounding average, and field goal percentage. Parker was also selected to participate in the Shrine All-Star game and was designated a second team All-State selectee by the Lincoln Journal and Star.
Junior center-forward Jerry Heckman and soph guard Ralph McWilliams were also starters for the Links Heckman finished the year as the Links ' third leading scorer and rebounder and McWilliams was a very consistent performer who averaged 6.4 points per game. Junior Robert Robinson was a part -time starter for the Black and Red and sophomore Nathan Woods also saw considerable playing time
Teamwise, the Links hit on 46 more field goals than their opponents but allowed their foes to outscore them by 71 points at the charity line Lincoln High also out rebounded their opponents, 688-576, but committed 80 more turnovers. The fouls and turnovers can be partly attributed to the youth and inexper ie nce of the young cagers
The young Linksters opened the season with a solid road win over top ten ranked Hastings and followed this by a controversial· overtime victory over tough Omaha Westside. They then lost two straight to Omaha Benson and Beatrice but came back to win the first annual Holiday Tournament with wins over Papi II ion and Southeast After this however, the cagers hit a shooting slump and lost three consecutive games to Southeast, Omaha Central, and Northeast They broke their losing string against Ralston but dropped a game to Omaha Northwest. After this game Jon Parker became eligible to play and he lead the Link s to victory in five of their final seven regular season contests With this, the cagers went into the district tournament on the heals of a three game winning streak and beat Lincoln East bv a 70- -64 score in the first round
The Black and Red su~ged to a halftime lead against Northeast in the championship game but lost their cool in the third quarter and lost by a 63-57 score.
Next year should be another good one for Lincoln High in the hoop sport as all but five members of the varsity squad will be ba c k The winning Reserve and Sophomore teams should also cont ribute some fine talent to the 1976-77 team

JV 's Pos t 14-2 Record; Finish 2nd in City·
The 1975-76 Reserve Basketball team sprinted to one of the best records ever for a LHS JV squad. They finished the year with a 14-2 overall record and a 2-1 city record i for second place behind Lincoln Southeast.
One of the reasons for the excellent season by the Links was the teamwork and balance of the squad. There was no one star on the team as everybody did his part. A strong crop of sophomores and the · height that has been lacking in recent years were other reasons for the success of the cagers.
Lincoln High opened their season with slim one and four point victories over Hastings and Omaha Westside, respectively. They continued their victory string with triumphs over Omaha Benson and Beatrice before they were beaten by two in a heartbreaker vs. Lincoln Southeast The Links won their next four games before suffering another heartbreaking loss of 61-60 at the hands of Kearney High School. They pulled themselves together however and won the season's final six games
over Grand Island, North Platte, Papillion, Lincoln East, Omaha South, and Millard.
Individually, there were many fine performers for the reserves throughout the year. Jeff Johnson, Dennis Scott, Dean Carstens, Kevin Albers, and Don Ginger were the starters during much of the ye·ar. Johnson, a 6-3 sophomore, was the leading scorer and rebounder for Lincoln High as he scored 174 points for a 10.9 per ga rne average and grabbed 132 rebounds. Dennis Scott was also a big force inside as he put in 161 points and took down 100 caroms. Forward Dean Carstens was the third leading scorer and rebounder with guards G i nger and Albers coming in fourth and fifth in the scoring derby. Albers was the team ' s playmaker and top outside shooter as he had 23 assists , a 52% field goal percentage and 74% accuracy from the charity line. Other players who saw considerable playing time for the junior varsity were Tom Fuller, Tom Hiskey, Connor Sughroue, and Alvin Moore.
Tigh t Games Fought by Sophomore Team
The Lincoln High sophomore team experienced a season of many close games, of which the Links won 7 and lost 5. Al I five of the losses were at the hands of the other Lincoln teams as the sophs had to settle for the cellar in city play
One of the things that hurt the squad was the fact that many of the top sophomores were advanced to the varsity and reserve teams this year; an uAusually high number of them
Even so there were many fine players left to play for the sophs as they combined for a much improved year over last year's one win season The leading scorers were Todd Richards , Dan Gerlach , Dennis Grady, and Jim Weddle . Richards scored 124 points and was the only Link to average in double figures. Gerlach scored 109 points, Crady had 103, and Weddle canned 48 Todd Richards was the leading rebounder with 90 caroms and Crady, Weddle,. Keith Hughes, and Tim McMeen also picked off
over 40 apiece. Gerlach was the playmaker for the team as he led the squad with 22 assists
As far as team statistics go the LHS sophomores averaged 47 .7 points per game, 30 rebounds per game, shot 35% from the field and hit on 56% of their charity tosses.
The Black and Red opened the year with an 11 point victory over Papillion and then dropped a close inter-city contest to Northeast After suffering a 12 point lo ss to Lincoln East in the next game the Links showed that they coul d win the close ones as they beat Ralston, Millard, and Omaha Westside in the following three games by a combined margin of five points The Lincoln High sophs beat Pius X handily in the next game before losing to East and Southeast in tough city games. The Linksters came away with another close one in beating Northeast by two in overtime before losing to Southeast again and then edging Beatrice by two in the season finale . Sports-85

Bad Luck Bes ets Bl ack and Red Gra pp lers
The Lincoln High wrestling team experienced an up and down year in 1975-76, as they finished the season with a 1-8-1 dual meet record They also took seventh place finishes in the Fremont Invitational and Trans-Nebraska, placed sixth at the 1-80 Tournament, eighth in District A-1, and completed the year with a 28th place finish at the State Tournament.
The grapplers were figuring on having an excellent team this year as almost all of the 1974-75 team returned intact However , some people failed to come out for wrestling, others quit early in the season, and still others, like two-year letterman Dwain Borchers, were forced to miss many duals because of injuries Thus, by the end of the year, there were only 18 young men still on the squad , including only three seniors
Despite this lack of experienced wrestlers, the team turned in several fine performances A 27-27 tie with top ten rated Grand Island and a 30-25 triumph over Beatrice were two excellent showings by LHS as was a sixth place finish at the 1-80 Tournament. At that meet, four Black and Red wrestlers finished in the top four in their weight classes with Bob Bousek finishing first at 98
lbs , Randy Hitz placing second in the heavyweight division, Mike Scanlon third at 167, and Kevin Stuart fourth at 126.
Junior Bob Bousek was the most consistent wrestler for the Links this year as he compiled a 20-7 record · and claimed championship finishes at both the 1-80 and District meets. Both Bousek and Mike Scanlon qualified for the State Tournament , where each won two matches and lost two. Scanlon and Bousek were also chosen to the all-city squad by the Lincoln Sunday Jo urnal a n d Star Seniors Tony Cruz and Kevin Stuart, along with juniors Doug Simpson and Randy Hitz were also solid performers for Lincoln High throughout this year.

LHS Swimmers Lack Depth for Dual Wins
Though finishing fourth in the 1-80 and 13th at state , the Lincoln High swim team failed to win a single dual meet One of the main reasons for this was the lack of depth and experience on th is young squad
The swimmers began the year with a fine second place finish at the LHS Relays and had much hope for the rest of the season However , following this the tankers went on to lose ten consecutive duals. Possibly their best showing came against the Lincoln East swimmer s as they were defeated by a slim two point margin, 75-77 The L.HS tankers also turned in fine performances against Grand Island and Ralston, though they wound up dropping both meets During their tournament schedule the Links fared somewhat better as they finished sixth at the TransNebraska meet and came in a respectable fourth i n the 1-80 meet In the state meet the Black and Red came in 13th on the strength of several fine individual performances
Six lettermen returned from last year ' s team. They were : se niors Rick Thomassen, Terry Houchen, John Kessler, and Jeff Weixelman, along with juniors Alan Loos and John Arenas. Two-year letterwinne r s Thomassen and Houchen were consistently the team ' s top performers Thomassen swam in the individual medley and the fly while Houchen competed in the 50 and 100 yard freestyle events At the Trans-Nebraska meet Thomassen took home a pair of si xth place finishes in his spe c ialties a nd Houchen came in second in the .50 and fourth in the 100. A t the 1- 80, both Houchen and Thomas sen captured two third place medals In the state meet , Thomassen came in tenth in the medle y • and eighth in the fly , while Houchen was finishing eighth in th e 50 and ninth in the 100 Other f i ne sw i mmers for the Links this season included John Kessler , John Vandersli c e, and John Arenas K e ssler and Vanderslice combined with Thomassen and Houchen to form a fine medley relay team which wound up the year with a fourth place finish at state Divers Jeff Wei xelman and Jim Johnson were also very c on sistent performers for Lincoln High
Though the Link s gr aduate only four seniors , Thomassen , Houchen, Kessler , and Weixelman-, these four were the t op performer s for LHS and will have to be r e placed if ne xt season ' s swimmin g squad is to impro v e over this yea r ' s record

Juniors Power Gal Hoopsters to 13-3 Mark
In this second year of girls' basketball at Lincoln High, the Linkswomen almost doubled last year's win total of seven by compiling an excellent record of 13 wins and three losses This 81 % winning percentage was accomplished by a team which was led by a rookie coach and dominated by underclassmen
First-year coach Joyce Johnson took over the reins from 1974-75 mentor Nadine Sass with five letterwinners back from a 7-4 team, including all-city choice Deb Van Dusen and starting center Robin Hruby In addition to these two · juniors, juniors Rachel Hillman and Pateah Bowling plus senior Sue Bruce made up the starting lineup for the Black and Red this year. This quintet also supplied most of Lincoln High ' s point production, as Hruby was the team's top scorer with 179 points , followed by Deb Van Dusen with 157 points, Rachel Hillman with 113, Pat Bowling with 53 and Sue Bruce with 45 Center Hruby was also the leading rebounder with Rachel Hillman close behind Both Van Dusen and Hruby were selected to the Sunday Journal and Star all - city squad
The Links started out the year like they were never going to lose. They won their first four contests over Hastings , 0 West si de , b. South, and Papillion by an average margin of 19 points. Then they took close wins over Papillion and Lincoln Southeast to capture the Holiday Tournament and won their first game in 1976 by 33 points over Ralston This perfect mark of 7-0 was spoiled by the state's top team , unbeaten Lincoln East, 41-27 in the next game, after which LHS won consecutive games over Millard, Lincoln Southeast , and Grand Island. They dropped a no.th er city game to Northeast by 40-27 before closing out the regular season with a 41-19 conquering of Beatrice In the Lincoln Invitational Tournament, th~ girls beat Millard in the opener by 45-40, were upended by Northeast 38-30 and took the consolation championship with an 11 point win over Papillion
The reserve team posted a winning record of 6-5 as Robin Ginger, Teresa Hogan , Ruth Fen and Carol Nun all excelled. Coach Johnson expressed much enthusiasm for next season as four starters and seven letterwomen return along with many fine reserve performers. She called Lincoln High " a team on the rise" in girls' basketball.

Young Gymnasts Surprise Many With Wins
A young 1975-76 Lincoln High girls' gymnastics team , with only 6 letterwinners back from last year's 2-8 team, surprised many people with a fine 6-4 dual meet season The Links also captured fourth place at the district meet and took fifths at the 1-80 and Trans-Nebraska Tournaments
The LHS tumblers opened their season with four straight dual victories , but dropped four of their final six duals. Inter-city competition was particularly keen as three of the four losses came at the hands of the other Lincoln schools.
Senior letterwinners Karel Michon, Tracey Cabelman, Diane Nelson, and Ruth Anderson lent leadership to the squad, with help from junior returnees Vicki Wachter and Belinda Cobb Karel Michon was the top performer for the Black and Red, turning in many excellent performances in the vaulting and balance beam events.
She qualified for the state meet in both events by taking seconds at the districts. Michon finished in seventh place at the state and had a first place performance in the 1-80 Conference Meet and a fourth at Trans-Nebraska in the vaulting Her score of 8 5 in the 1-80 was the highest score in that meet in any event The only other LHS competitor to qualify for state was sophomore Risa Shaw who accomplished this by placing eighth at the dis tricts in the unevens All-arounder Laura Jones, who was third in the all-around at Trans, and floor exercise performers Shari Oehring and Carla McCord were other impressive sophomores for the Links.
With only four girls graduating, next year's gymnasts should have a solid base from which to start Coach Ray Fallstead comments , " With the returning girls and some incoming sophomores we should be an even stronger team in 1977 ."
Risa Shaw , only a sophomore , did an excellent job on the uneven bars this season.

Link Track Men Have Discouraging Season
Though 1976 was not the most successful sea so n recordwise for the LHS boys' track team, the squad performed very well nonetheless. Th.e team was hurt by inexperience as only ten members of the 1975 s.quad returned.
The inexperience and lack of depth of the Links showed through in the year's opening meet, the Millard Invitational, where the thinclads finished last. The Black and Red also had to settle for the cellar in the Lincoln Relays. The Links improved somewhat in the Ralston dual, l o sing 72-69 They the n finished fourth in the Westside Invitational in a strong five team field. The tracksters went on to defeat Papillion by 76-66 and York by 97-43 and finish fifth out of eight teams in the Fremont Invite Though slumping to last at the city meet , the young thinclads continued to show improvement and display fine individual performances during the remainder of their schedule
Defending discus gold medalist John Beaver was the Links' most impres sive performer as he was among the state leade rs in both the discus and shot put all year. He was the city champion in both these events, along with high jump e r Steve Shaw Other top performers in 1976 included : lborah Umoren and Mike Ford in the sprints, Jeff Abbott in the hurdles and triple jump , Bill Gutierrez in the long distance events, and middle-distance runner Dennis Scott.

Pitching Staff Leads Links' Baseball Team
Led by a fine pitching staff , the LHS varsity baseball team played as well as just about anybody in the state , but were hurt by many close, heartbreaking losses A lack of consistent offensive punch was the factor in many of these contests.
With four lettermen back from last year, including 1975 all-city selection Charlie Metzger, Coach Bill Zuspan was confident of a strong team this year His confidence was re - enforced after the season opener with Lincoln Pius X Expected · to be a tough game, the Links did everything right and blew the Thunderbolts out of the ball park by a score of 16-1. Pitcher Metzger pitched a spark Ii ng four-hitter while his mates were pounding out 12 hits The next contest was with state power Millard and the Links lost the game by .5-2 when Millard broke up a tie in the final inning The diamondmen however, came back and beat Omaha South by a 7-2 decision on the force of Myron Drent 's fine pitching Then , the Links got into a batting slump and lost four consecutive games to city rivals. Southeast beat the Links twice in this stretch and East and Northeast scored 2-1 and 2-0 wins over the Links. The diamondmen refused to give up and continued to get solid pitching from their moundmen combined with improved hitting during the remainder of the year.
The leaders for the Black and Red this year were naturally pitchers Charlie Metzger and Myron Drent The top batters for Lincoln High were Dean Carstens , Greg Heckman, Dan Vontz, and Gary Hart. Returning letterman Russ Shepard, California transfer Mike Saylor, Rick Thomassen and Mike Smith were other performers who excelled for the Links.

Reserves, Sophomores Open Year Slowly
The LHS reserve and sophomore baseball squads both opened the 1976 campaign with first - year coaches at the helm Barry Blue was the head man for the junior varsity , while Jeff Schneider led the sophomores
The reserves responded excellently to Coach Blue's leadership in the year 's opening contest , as they shut out the Pius X Thunderbolts by a score of 7-0 Junior hurler Scott Carlson twirled a superb two hitter in the game and was ba ck ed up by the hitting of Tom Baruth who slammed a homer In the next game however, the J V. ' s dropped a 14-5 game to Millard The third game of the year turned out to be a 7-7 tie with Omaha South, in a game called because of darkness. Running into a batting slump in the next three games, the reserves dropped consecutive decisions to city schools Southeast, Northeast, and Southeast again However , the J. V. ' s bounced back and played an exciting style of ball in the remaining contests
The individual leaders for the reserves were pitcher Scott

Then, the sophs dropped two consecutive one-run games to city rivals Southeast and Northeast In their fourth game the Link s again lost to Southeast , this time by a 10-1 count. They refused to give up after these setbacks though and finished out the season with many fine performances
Individually , the sophs were led by hitters Ron Wise , Rod Vlcek , and Darrell Borchers Wise had an average of 550, Vlcek was hitting 500, and Borchers was batting .500 through the first four games. Links' Golfers Falter; Experience is Gained
The LHS golf team experienced a tough season as they lacked depth and experience Though two letterwinners, seniors Ralph Gladbach and Jeff Rump, returned from last year's team , Coach Dave Drevo had to rely heavily on underclassmen to fill out the varsity five. In fact the numbers three, four, and five players were all sophomores (Todd Richards, Linus Smith, and Mark Beebout).
The golfers showed their inexperience in their first meet of the year by finishing at the bottom of a 14 team field at the Beatrice Invitational with a 397 score Rump shot a 94 to pace the Links in that meet In the Ralston Invitational, the Black and Red golfers improved slightly to finish 13th in a 14 team field. Rump again led the squad with a fine score of 82, with fellow senior Gladbach close behind with an 83 In the season's first dual meet the golfers were defeated by Pius X by a score of '175-192 on April 6. Gladbach was the top Lincoln High finisher in that meet. In the Capital City Invitational on April 9, Lincoln High finished i n last pla c e again as no Link golfer could shoot below 90 over 18 holes
As the eason went along, the golfers continued to struggle but the young sophomores gained valuable experience that will be very helpful for Lincoln High golf teams in the years to come. •

The girls opened the season on April 2 with a strong second place finish at the Lincoln Relays. They went on to beat Millard 59½-50½ and Ralston 87-18 in their first two dual meets Junior distance runner Theresa Schoonover es tab I ished herself as one of the state ' s top milers by sweeping to three impressive mile wins in the_first three meets. Faculty
Teachers are a very special type of peop!e for they must deal with their problems along with their students' problems. They are one of the main adult figure heads which help mold the student into a productive and happy person By exposing their students to the academics and the arts , they are preparing the students for the outside world of people who have many ideas and opinions.
Administration
The people that head the school need to have the understanding and ability to deal with the many moods of the school ' s young population. In respect to this, Mr. William Bogar , Princ ipal, and Mr William H. Pfeiff, Vice Principal, have shown fine leadership.
The administrat ion seeks to provide a more flexible program to meet the wide variety of student needs. They make it a point to get to know the students, their activities, jobs, classes , and personalities . Along with their concern for the students , they work with the faculty, molding a better learning environment for the students.
Mr William Bogar , Principal, "Life is too short to be little."
Mr William H Pfeiff , Vice Pr i ncipal, looks like he is saying, " Another Lincoln High job well done.' ·
Mr William H Pfeiff , you can always find him with the crowd and yelling , " Let's Go Links! "
Mr William Bogar . " There is only one way to be an ethical individual and that is to find y our cause and serve it. "
Administration
Preparing students for a world of higher education, jobs and individualism are concerns of Lincoln High's administration It is the belief of the administration , that the students must recognize their true potential or nothing that is said or done will help them to become a more intelligent, concerned citizen
Somewhere between all the athletic events, plays and dances, learning absorbs in the minds of the students, thus allowing them to grow and mature i nto an adult population
The educational approach has changed from what it was years ago and the administration ' s obligation is to t ake an open view of the new ideas and to successfully co mbine the mo st valuable inno v ations with the mo st valuable traditions

Counselors
From the very moment you enter Lincoln Hig,h, a counselor is assigned to guide you through your next three years of school. They make every attempt to find just the right classes for each one of the individual students they counsel
The counselor's job is to listen and advise , when the advice is needed The main objective of guidance is for the youth to develop responsibility, self-worth and motivation To achieve a goal of such capacity there is a need for cooperation, a word that must involve two or more people

Fine Arts
Today it is important for students to express themselves in what they do. For many this is through their art and music classes Each person has his own idea of art, this is what makes each one unique.
In the Fine Arts Department, they have a chance to develop their talent in singing, playing an instrument, painting, drawing and various other concepts.
Music and art is a way to create different feelings and moods, art is an expression that can only grow when the individual grows.

Foreign Language
The understanding of people is. an important step to getting along with them Many things that h0ld a meaning in one language, loses the true meaning when translated in another.
There are many other things besides just the language itself you would learn in class . Their traditions, song, dance and food are among a few of the subjects studied about the country. Skilled teachers, and class activities, give students a better chance to become closer with the rest of the world. A language is essential for a person looking for a well-rounded education , important things can be learned from a culture other than our own.
To have a language, you need people, and aren't people the basic ingredient for communication?

Social Studies
The objective of the Social Studies Depart m ent is for the students to widen their k nov.tledge in certain era's of h istorv that seem to interest them most
Mir{i courses such as 11 Roaring Twenties" sometimes are mis used because many students are just taking them for the credit or they just can't find anything that interests them. The teachers of these classes feel that the number of students enrolled in the short courses should not exceed twenty pupils. With just nine weeks to teach the subject too many people can slow down the class progress
With the Bicentennial of the American Revolution falling in this school year, emphasis has been placed on the American Heritage. To really get into the 11 Spirit of '76'' know1edge of the United States and its founding is essential.

Driver 's Education
With so many lives being lost because of uncautious drivers, the teachers in the Driver's Ed. Department are stressing the need for safety
When first entering the course , the student does book work on the aspects of driving, does trial driving behind the wheel of a simulator and then receives valuableexperience behind the wheel of a car.
The goal of the Driver ' s Education Department is for each student to have the alertness and skills needed to drive a car Responsibility is a big factor also, as students learn that the misuse of a moving vehicle can cause the death of many people.
Getting their driver's license is the main goal of most of the driving students. The reward of lowered insurance rates after successful completion of the course, prompts many of the students to better their driving ski I Is.

There are many different classes available to the students, from crafts to welding The teachers feel there are rnany young people at LHS that have the ability to move into a professional position after finishing high school lf the students should choose to continue their education, the quality of their knowledge can expand and they will become better aware of the trade involved

Student Services
The school's most important asset is its students , but it takes the professionals to keep it running.
The people in the office handle phone calls, keep student records and endless other jobs No school could survive without a central office With the continuation of open campus, the cafeteria staff faces the problem of estimating the number of students for lunch. Few people realize the time and planning that goes into every lunch. Every school day would not go as smoothly if it weren't for these people and countless others, who keep everything functioning. The small things we take for granted are the work of these staff aides.
