Good grades and service lo school, and community paid off for Mall tt olman and Tuyet Kieu, as they were selected as the Elks Teens of the month by the ninth grade teachers They were honored, along with their parents, al a spring reception and received a 50 dollar savings bond from the Elks. This service organization selects lwo students from each middle and high school during the year.
Ninth grader, Yelina Gorbun, was honored in :February al the 70th &holastic Art Awards ceremony al D ana College in Blair. 6he was among an elite group of students whose art work was selected for display on the Dana College campus and will be entered in a national competition in ew York. Yelina's entry was a self-porlrail

In the Q egional Competition in 6outh Dakota, 6adie placed second which qualified her for the ational Competition as the ftrsl allernale. As the third year players neared the finish line, they were e38er and anxious to complete the 8ame, but very nervou about the unknown new 8ame. A final play day, year- book i8ni08 party, and dance allowed the champion to re all fun times and bid farewell lo the Lefler ame.

In 1999, Theater performed a play called "final Exam", by Burton Buffi8arner, a play t.hat was put on mainly by t.he tudenls themselves. They picked out and made all their costumes, put on their own makeup, cued t.he li8hls and sound, and made the l58e props They also memorized their lines duri~ t.he class period, and on their own time. Before the play rehearsals, they learned about acU~ on a hi8h level, made their own miniature st58e sets out of scratch, and had a fun and educational semester.

The R adio Control Car Club had a fun year. They raced through the year with their remote control cars and planes. The ar and planes were controlled by electric and gas powered motors. The club mel once a week, and durif18 this lime they built cars, traded car parts, and raced them . Most of the racers built their cars from scratch, and when they were ready, they raced in ide of the recently vacated fashion Company and out.side al Oak Track near Oak Lake. The boys enjoyed the club and had lots of fun playing the game in Q .C. Club.
