9thGrad,
It ' s time onc e again to leave these familiar waters and venture into uncharted territory. The ninth graders are now about to experience new obstacles in the next step towards the future . T he year began with high expectati ons , as ninth graders looked forward to th e dances , sporting ev ents , and performances After two years of "beating the bushes " for magazine sales , most ninth graders opted to push their cust omers for renewals which added dollars to the ninth grade team account for the year end fling.
Lincoln High ' s "Illusion Theater " , which includes actors from each high school , presented a special assembly to ninth graders. "T ouchy " topics included how to handle date rape , sexual harass , ment , and peer pressure.
Many Lefler freshmen gained self confidence with stage presence by singing, playing an instrument , or acting in a drama production Fancy dresses and ties , red and white balloons , and gus hy love songs transformed the gym and winter blahs for the Valentine's Day Dance in February . The se v enth period carnation delivery added to the smiles and giggles of th e holiday
T he snow finally melted and the flowers bloomed in time for the second ninth grade visit to the golf links. We practiced our ski lls at Champi ons for one of the "last blast" events . T he promotion dan ce and yearbook signing party were both memorable and sad as we pre , pared to again "swim the tides " to our new high school adventures .

Th e Seventh graders are done with their voyage. They have sailed from elementary to junior high and right through seventh grade. This year the seventh graders had a chance to make new friends with different cultures at the skating party, and other events. The seventh graders also paddled their way through the G.R.E.A .T. program.
Another adventure for the seventh graders was that they invented their own culture called La Teen. In their culture they designed laws, inventions, a language, food, folk remedies, fiags , a monetary system, clothes, and new sports.
The seventh graders are ready for a new adventure as they approach the waves that eighth grade brings .

What do Mr. Pappas, Mr. Stoehr, and Mrs. Schmidt all have in common? They are new parents. Mr. Pappas and his new son, Brody, have barrels of fun together. Mrs. Schmidt and her new son, Jerome, play every day. Mr. Stoehr's new bundle of joy, Christopher, doesn't do much playing yet, but he probably has the biggest smile.
One of our school's traditions is to have a monthly celebration of our staffs birthdays in the faculty lounge. The birthday honorees provide goodies for al! of the staff. One favorite "spread" was a variety of bagels and cream cheeses.
Our new associate principal is Mr. Calafiore who has done a excellent job of enfarcing our school rules. We were pleased to continue the tradition of the "Big Man" in the administration. Chris Deibler, former associate principal, accepted the principalship of Pound.
In the four th quarter of '9 7, Lefler added English As A Second Language Department.Four ESL teachers and over 50 students representing Vietnam, Iraq, Russia, and Mexico, joined the Lefler student body this fall. Many of these students are fluent enough in English to qualify for regular classes. One of the Lefler goals is to develop multicultural materials, and the ESL department was a great influence in this area.

A Year with this faculty is like a year at the sea they support and mold us into all we can be
They each have their own boat with courses to chart but they give 100% from Algebra to Art
Without this faculty sailing along we could never have anchored our ship
The Faculty's not only caring and smart as a rule, they ' re pretty hip!

This year in the Lefler Cafeteria some changes have been made For one thing, Leflers increased enrollment added 60 more students in the lunch line. A second change was the addition of breakfast, which was necessary when students had longer school days. They've stopped serving Little Debbie snacks, but have added reduced fat ice cream. Chocolate milk went from 2 to 1% , and strawberry milk was offered as an experiment. Many new multicultural entrees were introduced . ... adia Rybak from the Ukraine joined the cafeteria staff.

The 1997, 1998 Select Choir members had to audition in the spring of the 1996, 1997 school year. They worked hard on learning music with four and five parts to it. After months of hard work and dedication, the Choir had a good show that they sometimes got paid to put on.
They had many performances during the 1997,1998 school year. They performed at many retirement homes, feeder schools, and hospital cafeterias. They also had fun at special Select Choir parties and had get togethers at Village Inn. They sang at the Folsoms Children's Zoo to chil, dren and their families.

The seventh and eighth graders had an amazing year working at Tabitha. To participate, they had to have their parents permission.
This gave the stu.dents a chance to explore what the workers at Tabitha went through on a regular basis. When they volunteered they had to decide what kind of a job they wanted, and when they got the job they couldn't change it. They also had to take tests in order to work there.
Some of the jobs they had were: working in the kitchen, looking after the people that lived there, helping to keep track of the accounts, and found information about human resources.

The advanced drama class performed a very serious teen awareness play called "Crying Out." The students in advanced drama took a tum from the usual clever comedies performed in the past.
Both play casts and crew found alternative audiences as well as our own Lefier population.
