Welcome. If you can find your way through the murky marshes, and don't get tangled in the webs of foliage, then we invite you on an expedition through the labyrinth of t the past year.
Nationally, the Berlin Wall came tumbling down into the abyss. The sought-after Noriega 1 was captured and put on trial. Also, our hearts went out to the many victims of tragedies from Hurricane Hugo, and the Earthquake of San Francisco.
We also changed our habitat with the new grading system, changing from our usual 1-7, to an A-F grading scale. We welcomed two new teachers this year, Mr. · Wurster and Ms. Nelson, both P.E. teachers. We also watched Mr. Carroll go from his sweats to his oh, so beautiful suits as he took on the responsibility of the Assistant Principal. Our voyage doesn't stop there!
The zealous students of Lefler tormed two new organizations: The 7th Grade Kiwanis Builders Club, and Red Cross
We took on new highlands, and during this hike we congratulate Lindsey Morrison and Matt Shada for winning the Elks Club Scholarship.
We plunged into the depth less multitudes of assemblies this year. The ''Just Say No'' program shown to us at the beginning of the year, stuck with us as a reminder that the youth of to day has a place in the rough world that we all struggle through. All in all, this past year has been a trial through marshes and mangled vines. In the end, we all came out feeling closer to each other, as the ninth graders wept, while saying their final good-byes to the jungle we will always call home - Lefler!
Pump up the tan!
Our safari through Lefler left the ninth graders with different memories. One may be that ''w orthless '' Jmb threat which kept us stranded from our class. Another may be . the day when we elected a King 1d Queen tor the school dance. Or the day we dressed up tor Halloween, as we went from a headhunter 1 a flying nun. What was weeks seemed like years to prepare for the language fair, which ended ,success. Everyday a new person had their learner 's permit. In school we all received more privileges ran the others. And the teachers almost acted as it they really trusted us . Also, we were represented 'ell by our student council. Since this was our last 9ar we all became more mature than the others . Even though at one time we were all 7th graders, ,e found it fulfilling to pick on· them. For a lot of s, this was our last year we would see each other. Vhen we move on to high school following the same ine as the others . . . we will all remember the mgle years of junior high.

A dark and foreboding Jungle appeared in the paths of the new 1989 Lefler seventh graders Strange animal sounds and Jungle drums lured these unknown travelers into the exploratory block. Peculiar keyboards , French and Spanish words , hammers and lathes , and musical chantings added to the endurance and education of the new Jungle dwellings. Leadership skills were enhanced through Student Council and Builders Club By May the candidates successfully completed the course , found the sunshine at the end of the path , and emerged as excellent trainees who are prepared for the next safari - 8th grade!

Increases in the baby population resulted in maternity leaves for many teachers. Thus, the faculty ranks shifte,d greatly throughout the year.
The ninth grade boys varsity basketball team showed their stuff by downing the mens faculty team.
Teachers were recognized for their efforfs with cookies and fruits from Bryan Hospital on Teacher Appreciation Day, and Mr. Wall was the proud winner of a sweat outfit. It was a change of pace to see Mr. Wall in such casual wear, as well as seeing Mr. Carroll in a suit. Mr. Carroll moved from Athletic Director to Assistant Principal, and even though we had to visit him in the office instead of the gym, we all adjusted well.
Dr. Grassmeyer and Mr. Carroll have seen to it that the faculty and the students have had a successful year.

This years Publications Class not only put together the yearbook, but also created some fine memories, from playing basketball, creating hysterical fantasies on story boards, to learning all about film making and the history of Hollywood. We learned enough printers' vocabulary to make the dictionary our friend. Throughout the year we ordered, lost, found, and even cut up pictures. We finished the year by publishing an awesome Literary Magazine , a collection of original poems and stories by Lefler writers.
the twenty-nine active members of the 1989-1990 Student Council swung through the air with excitement and kept Leflerites on their toes. A Valentine 's Day Dance , Talent Show, and a seventh grade party were only a few of the many activities these members sponsored. Student Council hosted a holiday party for children of the faculty. Santa even put in an appearance! Community services included collecting canned food with the VIP's for the Malone Center Even though this group was made up of all different gra des , they pulled together like vines on a tree. Congratulations on a fabulous year .
Lefler's Mascot kept us well informed this year with editorial, po rts, news , features , and much, much more. This one emester class not only published three issue s of the Mascot r semester, but added the PTA New.sletter as a second hallenge. Four issues were pub lished dufing the year. dents gained valuable and varied experiences as they wrote r different audiences . A Student Council '' Know the Candite '' special edition was published before _ the fall election. Mastering the computer and meeting deadlines added to special learning skills for this budding bunch of journ alists .

The seventh grade members of Builders Club joined this tribe to gain leadership skills. Building personal confidence and helping the community were the main goals for 1989-90. Their ambition allowed them to meet these goals. Activities for the year included selling Christmas trees and collecting paper sacks for the City Mission. This new addition to our jungle swung through a terrific year.

Advanced Band has been very busy this year. Along with their usual concerts the band was selected to perform at the Nebraska Bandmasters Association Annual Convention in March . .
The band was selected by audition from thirty other schools throughout the state that submitted audition tapes. They performed very well and received many wonderful comments from an extremely critical audience of band directors from all over Nebraska. They also performed as the guest band at the All City High School Band Contest at the Lied Center, making Lefler proud of them once again.
And this is what they call Select Choir??

''Let me win, but if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.'' This is the oath that is recited by Special Olympics athletes before each contest. The Special Olympics is built on the spirit and courage of mentally and physically handicapped participants. It's not how fast you are, or how high you can jump, it's how much you try and how hard you want to succeed. The biggest difference between Special Olympics and other sports programs is that every athlete has an equal chance to win. No one goes unrecognized or unrewarded.
Lefler Special Olymp ics just completed its ninth year. Some small towns across Nebraska must join together to have enough entrants, however, Lefler has an adequate number of students to complete a team.
Events featured in Special Olympics are basketball, bowling , roller skating and track and field events. Lefler athletes participated in bowling, track and field.
The State Special Olympics was held during the final week in May. Five students participated in track and field events. Nine competed in bowling.
