This year has proved to be a spectacular event in the lives of these fabulous Freshmen . In seventh grade they were treated as clowns. The process of learning to walk the tight rope began in eighth and finally this year they assumed their positions as ring leaders.
Student Coun cil elections started the year and Lefler was represented in Red Cross with seven ninth grade members. Many Freshmen were actively involved in instrumental and vocal music.
The Fresh men also visited nine-mile Praire, Foreign Language Fairs, taught Minicourses, and were teacher assistances. After this, our ninth-graders will head for the "Big Top." They will be losing many friends, but will make many more.
Congratula tions class of 83-84 for an excellent performance.

In th e second ring are the 8th graders. This group of circus personnel were exposed to many learning experiences under the big top.
One full quarter was devoted to creating a childrens' book in English. The books and students traveled to Pershing and Holmes elementary schools for a "show and tell' session.
The business department of the circus will be in good hands because the 8th grade rs mastered the stock market.
Th e 8th graders were well represented in Student Council, in vocal and instrum ental music groups, and the school plays.

The new kids under the big top were green-horns in the fall, but earned the rank of old timers by May 25th. All the seventh grad ers experienced new ideas and activi ties. They went on a Prairie field trip , some attended the Snooker bowl party , and they had first night jitters when they performed plays for their parents. In the next two years, here at Lefler, they will have a great opportunity to become stars. Let's give them a hand, and say . . . Good Luck!

The trainers taught us many new tricks which have prepared us for yet another run of the circus. Among other accomplishments they guarded enough tricks to win the surprise volleyball game. In one effort to jazz up their act, the teachers tamed the Apple Computer and will use this new skill for grading and recording purposes. During the offhours from the big top, the trainers managed to squeeze in some social exchanges. So you can see the trainers have balanced an act of grades, fun, and socializing. Let's give them a hand!

Th is year the cooks of this circus have introd uced new foods to our animals. Keep ing the performers well nourished is a big job, but these people do it. The big top needs daily cleaning too, and our cage cleaners do it great. The cooks and cage cleaners deserve a round of applaus e for this trick.

This year's Student Counci l members are Ringm asters -in-training. The offi cers started off by attend ing a leadership worksh op with Student Council members of other Junior High Schools. Aside from the Student Council's annual activities such as dances and the concess ion stand, they have ad ded some acts to
their dazzling show. The 1984 extravaganza starred the "surprise" vollyball game and the Film Festival. The Council was expanded to include a new Com munications Liaison officer.
They highlighted the year with generous donations to various charity organizations.

Our Publication Class is a year-round show. Although it's a lively and fun class , it also involves a lot of hard work and time to produce a topnotch yearbook. We spent the entire first quarter studying the history of Hollyood and learning how to put together this unique book. By second quarter Mrs . Shafer had chosen the staffs and we were ready to get crackin ' Pictures had to be taken , pages had to be planned and copy blocks had to be written. All this kept us on our toes as deadlines constantly had to be met . At the end of the third quarter "The Greatest Show on Earth " was completed. Fourth quarter consisted of putting together and publishing the impressive Uterary Magazine , studying a Comic Strip unit and as the finale to this incredible year , we studied television and radio production. We also sponsored the first dance which had a Hawaiian theme.
Mrs Shafer has her hands full with the groovy Yearbook Class.

News style, editorial opinions, entertaining features, and verb filled sports are the tasks of the Mascot class. Students enrolled in this one semester elective, must work hard mastering journalistic styles of writing, copyreading, and layout before they attempt to write and publish the Mascot. Four issues are published each semester.
Special press conferences were held during both semesters and the Mascot students had the opportunity to interview and write. First semester Mascot members attended the press conference for Marlene · Sanders, CBS commentator and anchorwoman. Superintendent Roger Clough and the only Olympics Official from Nebraska, Russ White visited Lefler during second semester and held press conferences.
This year's talented Select Choir started their show every morning at 7:15 a.m. In order to belong to the Select Choir, each member had to go through two auditions that included singing, listening, and music reading. Select Choir gave many performances at Lefler, the senior high schools, senior citizen homes, holiday parties, luncheons, and banquets. Yet the most successful and flamboyant performance was in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, at the American Choral Directors Convention. They were one of only two junior high choirs attel)ding the convention~ The other choirs were from high schools throughout a six state region. After an outstanding performance Select Choir received a standing ovation. Select Choir truly took everyone's breath away.
I pity the fool who put this in the yearb ook!

The play begins with Baroness Fra n ·-enstein alias Sara Stone, working o n her beastly monster, when she gets a sta r ling message that Hanna Hoople is plann ir to visit her castle. The Baroness is ala r ed at this message because Hanna has b een sending checks to keep the castle ru n ing with a staff of servants, while the Bar 1ess has been using the money for experi m e ts.
When Hanna arrives with her niec e nd her niece's husband, she finds tha t her castle is being run by abnormal b e , gs. After an hour or so Hanna announce s t hat she is going to Paris for her honey rr on with the Werewolf and as far as we k ow I th e y're still living happily ever after.

This year's Varsity and Reserve volleyball went all the way to the top. The competition was tough but the Reserves managed to pull through to win the City Championship. The 7th and 8th grade teams also had an outstanding season. The 8th graders ended their season with no losses. The 7th and 8th grade students practiced after school Jor an hour and a half. During practice the teams worked hard at serving, setting, bumping, dinking, and receiving.

Soccer is a very challenging sport. It is an all body sport with the exception of the use of the hands. They practice after school five days a weekfor an hour. Soccer is a fast-paced sport in which the whole team participates without a minute of rest.
On your marks . . . .
The goal of the freshmen swimming and diving te a, s from the four high schools in the city is, basically, to h e ve fun, but also to win their meets. This gives each perso n r e opportunity to experience a swimming or diving t e ( before entering high school. Winning first place in the cf ty meet was the East 9th grade girls team and the 9th g rc. de boys team from Southeast. The girls from Southeast p l ced second. Individual honors were claimed by: S he ri Sorensen, 1st, diving; Kara McGinn, 2nd, 50 meter , 10 0 meter freestyle, 1st in the medley relay; Jamie Laird, 3 d , 50 meter freestyle, 100 meter freestyle, and the m e ·ey relay; Monte Willis, 2nd , 50 meter breaststroke, 50 m e, e r freestyle, and 100 meter individual medley; Marcee M t i, 1st , butterfly, 200 meter medley relay, and 2nd in the 2 0 meter individual medley.

This year's 9th grade pigskin players played for East, Southeast, and Lincoln High Schools. The East heavyweight team had a grand 2-4 season. The heavyweights from Southeast had a discouraging 1-5 season. The Lincoln High heavyweights had a more successful season with a record of 3-3, while the Lincoln High lightweights ended with a 2-4 season. The 7th and 8th grade coed flag-football season was spoiled by rainstorms an d masses of mud. This year's fall preview was hard to beat!

This year,s seventh and eighth grade boys, intramural basketball players got off to a slam dunkin, start. Both teams won four out of their eight games, not half bad! The boys sacrificed their Saturday mornings and after school time to practice. You could see them out on the court every day from 3 to 4 o,clock. As a future ninth grader, Derek Delabarre predicts, "Next year we will have good varsity and reserve teams!',
