9TH GRADERS REMEMBER

YESTERDAYS AND DREAM OF TOMORROWS

Junior High is a time of experimentation. By the end of ninth grade, we have experienced different social groups, a variety of classes, and numerous teachers.

This year was filled with messy lockers, research papers, math assignments , memories of dances, and limitless miscellaneous rememberances.

Who will forget the advanced drama plays, Freedom Jam , the ski trip that was almost rained out, baggy jeans , Lefler ' s 25th anniversary, and Day of the Dead?

We are all now looking forward, ahead to the new experiences, ones that hold as much value and meaning as those of our past - our yesterdays.

LOOKING

STAFF RETURNS TO LEFLER

FOR ANOTHER EXCITING YEAR

Teachers play a very important role in our lives. They shape our personalities, they prepare us for high school, and give us a brighter future than we would have had otherwise. They help us when we are confused, and reward us when we have done well. Without them, we would not have come this far. This section is dedicated to the excellent staff of Millard Lefler Junior High School.

COUNCIL OF ELROND

The fantasy / science fiction club did many things this year. · During the meetings, discussions were held about the fantasy / science fiction books that had been read. The sponsor , Mr. Dawson, read short science fiction stories. Plans were made to go to an science fiction / fantasy movies that came to Lincoln. Some of the people in the club played Dungeon and Dragons. A bibliography wa planned of all the fantasy / science fiction books in the Lefler media center. Much fun was had by all who were in the council of Elrond this year.

REDCROSS

This year many things were done in Red Cross. Holloween Pumpkin guesses were made, candy was put in a 'pumpkin ' and people guessed how many pieces were in it. A donation of 125.00 to Operation Santa Claus was made, $125.00 to the Malone Center, and $50.00 to the Salvation Army. Candy canes were sold before Christmas for 10¢ each, and were delivered December 21, during 6th period.

Red Cross Week was February 11-15. Valentines were sold with chocolate kisses on them for 10¢ each Monday-Wednesday and were delivered on Valentine's Day. Hat day was held on

Tuesday. On Wednesday, a teacher apprec"iation day was given to the teachers. Cupcakes and some kool-aid were donated. Thursday, the valentines were delivered and on Friday our dance was held. During the dance, a king and queen of each grade were crowned. Representatives were sent to each citywide meeting of all the junior highs. A lot of fun was had by all but it could not have been done without the help of our sponsors, Mrs. Hansen and Ms. Lorenz-Soucek.

ALL - CITY GIRLS CHOIR

Participation in a music group requires a , Jt of patience and dedication. You have to le , ·n to do something over and over until you ge t i t down perfectly. If someone can 't attend a pr ~-..tice, he / she has to make sure to be there the m t week. One definitely has to be willing to sacri f .: e because one usually end up staying after sch ( ) l for quite awhile. One may not think this sou r Is like very much but, in the end, upon hearing r 1e final results, it's worth it!

There are about 15 people who compile the Mascot, Lefler s new paper. There are approximately four issues of the Mascot printed each semester. It takes a lot of work and dedication to write this paper. When a new issue is started, the fir t step is to pick section staffs: ews, Feature, Editorial, and Sports. Then comes the writing!

Everyone chooses a tory idea he / she want i to write. Everyone is required to write one s t ry individually. When each reporter gets his ; er storie in , they are sent to be printed. A few c ys later , they are returned to be pasted on the p a ~ ! S. They are sent in again and are received as a scot all ready to sell.

STUDENT COUNCIL

9TH

What would the school year at Lefler h ve been without Student Council? There wou h 1n' t have been the same boring speeches and all the campaign stickers that you had to peel off ev rything during election time , no one would have 1ad to listen to Mrs. Winter throw fits at meet i 1gs, there wouldn't be any famous comers at Stu · ent Council d a nc es , no M as cot editorials asking hat Student Council was doing , and nothing cra z: to do during Spirit Week.

This year ' s Student Council consiste of seven members from 7th and 8th grade and e 5ht members from 9th grade. They were electe by their peers during election week.

Some of the activities Student Council l !ld this year were the all-school dances, Wacky !dnesday , the selling of turkey grams, Stu ~nt Council breakfast , ski trip, opening of the tudent Lounge , selling of popcorn balls , and S1 ri t Week.

Community projects also played an im p rta nt p a rt i n L efle r 's Stud e nt Council. $ 100 ·as donated to White Hall and Malone Center , n sing homes were visited and our concern fo r e hostages was expressed by hanging ribbon s Jn Lefler ' s trees.

The year was a successful and funfilled ar that wouldn't have been the same without he help of Mrs. Winter and Mr. Knaub. No, the ) ar wouldn ' t have been the same.

THE ADVANCED DRAMA PLAYS

There were three Advanced Drama plays this year. One of the plays was "I Want To Report A Murder. " It was about two old ladies who Ii ed in a hou e, that had several boarders. On e day, the maid thought she saw a corpse in one of the boarder 's rooms. A lot of confusion went on before they finally realized the boarder was a ventriloquist. items from "The Twelve Days of Christmas. " It tells what she goes through to get all the items. H er husband is very confused and is feeling a loss of money. This is a very funny comedy.

The other play was "T he Case Of The Frustrated Corpse. " This play is about a corpse that is lying on the living room couch and wants to be noticed. He tries everything to get his wife to notice him, but she never does, a hilarious play.

The plays were all very well done. Much hard work and extra hours were demanded of all who participated in these productions.
