GIRLS' CHORUS

'THE LADY OF SHALOTT" :-.Jear many towered Camelot, in a river bordered by fields of barley and dye, lay the -ilent island of Shalott. Although barge plied the river, no one had caught even a glimpse of the Lady of Shalott who lived within four gray walls and four gray towers on the island. Yet reapers had heard her song. By night and day she steadily wove a magic web and paused not to look down on Camelot lest an unknown curse hould be upon her. Her knowledge of the outside world came through reflections in a mirror on the wall. Here she saw passing along the highway to Camelot, village churls, market girls, troops of damsels glad, an abbot, a curly shepherd lad, a long-haired page, knights riding two and two, a funeral with plumes and lights, and finally two lovers lately wed. The lady, tiring of her work, caught in her mirror the dazzling reflection of Sir Lancelot singing on hi way. he left her loom to look. Whereupon out flew the web and floated wide, the mirror cracked from side to side, and he felt the curse upon her. Finding a boat, she loosed the chain and down she lay, caroling mournfully.

E'er he reached Camelot she died. Knights and burgher crowded around gaping at the quiet hape floating by. Even Lancelot asked God' mercy for the Lady of halott.

May Day The May Day festival was held May I 8· I 928.

All the citizen of the Twenty-sixth and O Junior high school a sembled on ground at appointed hour. Pages appeared from the castle and after searching diligently found the queen di gui ed a a citizen hiding in the motley throng.

They e corted her to the ca tle \\·here he wa arrayed in holiday attire and escorted her to the throne down an ai le formed by her admiring ubject . he ,va preceded by her maids in waiting, and crowned ,vith a floral crown.

After her maje ty was duly enthroned the repre entative group from each home room vied with one another to win the pleasure of her royal mile.

Following this the athletes of Twenty- ixth and O gave a field meet for her pleasure.

The girls of her kingdom played a game of volley ball for her benefit.

The festival closed with all the citizen inging the school ong, after the queen had given her approval of the health education program of the Twenty- ixth and 0 province.

The athletic event during May Day were the 50-yard da h high jump and broad jump. Two young men from each home room were chosen to participate.

Four men were al o picked out of each home room for the 200-yard relay.
