A New Principal
After 18 years of routine and repetition
Principal Dave Van Hom retired as principal of Irving Middle School. He left for a job in which he will spend more time working with kids and less time doing paperwork. Now, Hugh McDermott, Lefler' s former principal, has taken the role of principal at Irving.
Mr.McDermott spoke with Irving Yearbook staff about his stand point; opinions and fears about Irving. Like any good principal, Hugh looks for the most in his students, of his school and has high expectations for all children. Though a little nervous at first, Principal McDermott knew some of the staff because many Lefler teachers transferred to Irving to teach. Thankfully, he believes in humor. "School is more fun for students if humor is involved." Overall, Mr. McDermott is a standard principal with the morals and values of any good staff member. Mr. McDermott is a fitting replacement for Dave Van Hom and will try to make Irving a better place for all students and staff.
