On January twenty-seventh, some ninth -grade passen.; gers transferred to a larger vessel, the Lincoln High, taking with them the hearty good wishes of their fellow passengers. They say they will stop at a port called "summer vacation" for three months, then follow the broken bow water, made by the ninth grade, to the unknown island of "success. :'. -Darrel Mulligan 9A • (Member of Irving's first ninth grade class.) fiappv :Sirtbday Jrving. ..59

mlntroductng Sam enhoover, Jordan Kelly, James Oliva, and lan Brown. They're the members of Catal1rst, a band made up of three lrving students. You may know Sam, James, and Jordan (all lrvlng ninth graders) from a class, seen a flyer, or even attended a Catat, yst concert or two. You may be excited to know that one day these guys could be lrving' s first claim to fame. . Catalyst has been a band since September of 2001. They have produced many demos and their current project is to complete a full album. ln fact, these boys have talked to a record label! ln the next five to ten years Jordan, Sam, and James all agree playing in Catalyst will still be a top priority in their lives. "Music is a huge part of all of our lives," James said.
The band sites many personal, as well as band influences, which include Tool, Incubus, Mudvayne, and Glassjaw. Sam jokes that his main influence is 98 degrees, "Heat lt Up!" he says. But aside from the joking all of the guys clearly have dedicated time, energy, and fun into their band. This clearly will get them to where they want to be in life. So make sure to keep an eye out for these four rising stars so you can say you knew them WAY BACK WHEN! Acth.ntiee . . .69
