It was many years ago when Mr.George first sponsored the Youth Empowerment Society, and the tradition typical Y.E.S. club meeting. Irving is fortunate enough to have this kind "This year's Y.E.S. is the best ever!"

------------The Power of organizations have just recently started to recognize the Diversity brings together speakers from different backgrounds to speak on their cultures. This fair has been very successful in its past years, as it always manages to give students a look into another culture. The Y.E.S club has many jobs being the only multicultural club at Irving . The Y.E.S. club is responsible for the multicultural fair, installing a school mural, Candy Grams, and getting the school involved with National Holocaust Remembrance Week.
"The club will now come to order!"

Have you ever wondered why a kid would say that being in the middle stinks? Are you the middle child in the family? Eighth graders are like middle children. They have that sense. You almost always hear them say, "I can't wait until the ninth graders leave cause then we get to be in charge." Most of the eighth graders get pushed around by the ninth graders and then they get looked up to by the seventh graders. Life is really confusing that way. Some of the students said that being the middle child can be fun but most of the time it isn't fair. They also say that they are stuck with a lot of responsibilities. Sheena Moseman and Dimi Hua both agree that they get stuck doing most of the chores, while everyone else does nothing. That happens a lot and most of the time when you do work, the other siblings will get all the credit. Tim Lucks says that he has to watch his younger siblings and has a lot of chores to do. Carrie Stuart cleans the house or takes out the trash. Sheena described what it is like to be a middle child and said: "I don't really like it. Sometimes it seems like everyone else besides
gets stuff, or I have to clean or do "You feel like your the peanut more chores than everyone else." butter and jelly in a peanut- Dimi agrees. Tim Lucks said it is okay butter and jelly sandwich." being in the middle. The group felt Ashley said. that their parents treated them
differently. Ashley Vohries said, "Sometimes I feel like I get treated differently. It's like the older child is too old for chores and the younger child is too young for chores." Spencer Weddle thinks that his parents don't treat him differently from his other siblings. Aaron Rouch agrees with Spencer. But Dimi Hua disagrees and said, "I get treated differently in almost everything I do." Dimi said, "I dislike being lectured about what I should and shouldn't do." Ashley said, "I don't like getting picked on by my older brother." Aaron Rouch says, "Sometimes you don't get what you always want." There is alway~ a conflict and Spencer thinks that being the middle child is fun and he is fine with it. Aaron agrees and says, "It is better than being the youngest one."
A word of advice to you middle children, hang in there because before you know it the older kids in the school are gone, and you get to take charge.

Kerk is sure hard at work!
Friends are people who are close to you and care. They are the ones you sit by at the lunch table or wave to in the halls. You hang out with them after school and study for tests together. On the weekends they are the first ones you call to make plans. Whether you have one close friend or twenty, they mean the world to you. It doesn't matter what the look like or what
Eighth Grade
they do. You lik~ them for who they are on the inside as a person. They may be closer to you than anyone in the world, or they may just be fun to hang out with. Either way it's~a relationship you don't want to lose and won't let anything come in between you.
Boyfriends and girlfriends may come and go but a true friend will always be there for you. They are shoulders you cry on when life gets too hard. They are the arms you hug to lift you up when you're feeling down. Playing on a team would be no fun without friends. You
wou ave no one o ce e with after you win the big game. Without friends life wouldn't be worth living because you'd have nobody to talk to about your problems or laugh at a stupid joke you heard that day.
Having fun with friends is what makes your years here at Irving so memorable. Eighth Grade

Aaron concentrates in Health
Seventh Grade
By Janna Miller
The second annual skating party was held in September. All of the seventh graders spent a day at Galaxy Skate World & Family Fun Center, at 6th and Van Dorn. Teachers organized the event as a way to introduce students to each other.
At the party, seventh graders and teachers spent the day skating, hanging out in the arcade, climbing in the human hamster cage, or driving the bumper cars. There was no shortage of food to fill the 7th grader's appetites.
Most of the seventh graders enjoyed the party. Brett Gordon said, "The party was fun and interesting." Amanda Rodren said that it was really great because it was free. Raluca Apopei liked slamming people in the bumper cars.
Trevis Gale said that it was a great way to get to know people on their team.
The only improvement that could be made was if it was longer. Some students said it would be better if the teachers had not come along.
All in all it was a great success. Most seventh graders said it was a fun experience and they hope it will happen again.
