A new year. A fresh new script to be written. What does an unscripted life mean to you? Unscripted means to be unexpected or si:ontaneous. When I think of "Life Unscripted" I think of unrehearsed or unplanned. For Leah Bryan, it means "to be yourself · and just to be unexpected." Bemg unscripted means you are not ordinary. You are different. You are unique. At Goodrich Middle School we are oold daring, and m~t imJ:Orlantly, we are unscripted.

Comphcatoo, Frustrating, stressful and preparation. Because of this, 8th grade :is a challen~ing time for us kids. Frazion~ Wynn a local Bth grader says that 8th isn t quite as fun as 7th, "Because we didn 't have to do the harder things that are ~etting us ready for being a freshman." She also includoo that her favorite teacher taught 7th grade and was Mr. Little. An example of frustration and stress would be that Fraziona is not usoo to doing the stuff that is preparing her for high school such as the extra homework and other responsibihties, while she is still in middle school 8th grade is comphcatoo, frustrating, and stressful but it can also be fun, exciting, and fantastic.

Corning in as a seventh grader is big :oocause you are no longer the new siX.th grader and you are on your way to being the top of the school When asked who their favorite teachers were. most students said Mrs. Bowers :oocause she is funny and does fun activities. Students also said Mr Little was their favorite :oocause he does fun things and students hke doing science experiments. They also agree it's important to have connections With their teachers. It's hard not oomg the new kids anymore but these 7th graders are making connections With their new teacher, wfule keeping connections With the old ones. In the end everyone said they hkoo 7th grade rotter than 6th ~ade :oocause they are no longer new. When you're in 8th grade you might change your mind.

. 6th Graders

It was August 14 201 7, when the 6th graders arrivoo from 5th grade. Most of them were worried, nervous, or excihrl. We askoo 6th graders about how 6th grade was. Lily said 'The first day of school was boring because there were too many rules and · expectations." We askoo another 6th grader, Ayat, what she thought of it, and she said that it was "easy to make friends because there are more people." They also both said that they hked the lockers and memonzing the combinations. That was different for them from elementary. Lily and Ayat both have different point of views about middle school but I'm sure that in the end both will have their own unique, fun experiences.

The Staff

In Gooorich the staff play the most important role. They are the ones that hold this school together With their amazing and sometimes spontaneous ideas. They have good attitudes and great :i;.ersonahties.

When askoo aoout the weirdest thing that has hap:i;.enoo at Gooorich, 7th grade science teacher Mr. Little responded, "One time I was teaching my 1st :t;.eriod class and as I walked past my front desk my pants caught on a nail and ripped all the way across the front of my pants. I had a hole the siZe of a basketba.ll! Luckily I had a science lab coat close by so I ran across the room and put it on to hide my shame. I talkoo to my first :t;.eriod and told them how embarrassed I was. I told them if they could keep a secret by not telling the other classes what had hap:i;.enoo then I would reward them the next day. It workool Not one student mentionoo anything aoout me ripping my pants. Some students ask me why I was wearin~ my science lab coat and I just told them I was cold and was wearing the lab coat to stay warm. Hal If they only knew)

What a day. I thankoo my 1st :t;.eriod students and rewardoo their good secret keeping skills With donuts and po:p:!orn for breakfast the next day1" £ven though the staff has very weird stories they contribute a very important part to Gooorich and the community.

It's nnporlant to hve a healthy h.festyle. Sia, Goodrich, many years ago, began to let 7th and 8th graders play s:µ>rls. The s:µ>rls we play, Soccer, Cross Country, Volleyball Basketball W resthng, and Track and Field often have unexpectErl outcomes. In other words, these s:µ>rls are nnprov. We wmg it. S:µ>rts are unscriptErl. And that is s:µ>rls. Getting ready to be unscripted, and working together to make it unscriptErl.

When we a.skErl 8th grader Tina Tran her experience in Goodrich s:µ>rls. she rephed, "It hel:µ; you stay fit and active. It's gcxxl for your health, and it's fun." 7th grader Helenia Breem, to whom we askErl the same question to, told us, "It also keeps you active, and it's fun. It's something you can do when you're lx>rErl."

We could go on and on alx>ut all the ama.zin~ sports going on here in Goodrich, but we1f sum it up for you - most of the nnporlant things in h.fe are staymg fit, healthy, and active, making friends and having fun - are found in s:µ>rls.

Here at Gocxlrich there are many ways ~ple can express themselves. For example our school has a lot of great artists. They work very hard on their pieces of work to make it the best they can. When we asked 8th grader £hzabeth Chhoeung a.rout what her drawmgs mean to her sI;e said "puttin~ a face to a blank canvas. She spends a 1ot of time to finish just one of her drawmgs, it takes her hours. Her art is very important to her. Like £hzabeth, our school has many other great artistic talents. £very1xrly needs memories. Some memories go back further than others. It's fun to see how much people have grown. Its also fun to see how much people have changed. We asked 7th grader Precious W. aoout why she thought that seeing baby pictures in the yearoook was a gocxl idea and she res:µmded With " To see how students have changed."
