Newspaper artical headlines taken from the "Lincoln ,Journal Star"
When Mr. Friesen was a kid, there weren't any computers. His middle school only had seventh and eighth grade. He went to school downtown, where it was very easy to sneak into grocery stores during lunchtime.
Mr. Freisen decided to become a teacher because of his family's invovlvment in education. His father and brother guided him to become a teacher. His first year of teaching was in 1969. He started out as a math teacher, recalling that he remembered a time when there were calculators, students used a thing called a slide rule. The school had a machine that could multiply and <livid~ large numbers and it took about ten seconds to do the work and it only cost abou t fifty dollars. He later switched to teaching computer applications because it was more fun. •
If you've had Mr. Freisen before, you know that he has many heavy looking textbooks on his shelf, but he never uses them. This is because he feels that it is a boring way to learn, and that a handson approach is better.
He now shares the title of Athleti~ Director with Mr. Swanson, but before he was the director he was one of Goodrich's coaches. In fact, one of his most memorable moments was winning the city championships in sports. Only ninth graders competed in the championships, they were like the varsity team of middle school. In 1986, Goodrich won the track city championship. He said, "It was pretty cool."
Mr. Freisen has only worked at Goodrich during his thirty years of teaching. He has never left because he is comfortable here, and a change could be too stressful. He thinks that Goodrih hasn't changed for the better or worse, the neighborhood has improved, the education is about the same, there are better students, and there aren't ninth grade sports anymore. When we asked him when he planned on retiring, he said, "I haven't checked my powerball tickets yet, but probably in the next three to five years."
(Above) Is that your final answer?
(Above) Conspiring with another teacher to take over the school? Or... not.
(Below) Alway willing to lend a helping hand.
Mr. Freisen has two children, a daughter that live in Kansas City and has two children, and a son that lives in Lincoln. When he is not teaching, he works on an acreage. There are about 800 trees that were planted ten to twelve years ago. There are also three acres of wildflowers. He also enjoys golfing but he feels that he is bad at it.
Mr. Freisen's favorite kind of music would be the classics, such as Willie Nelson, Jimmy Buffet, and Jerry Jeff. One of his favorite songs is "Pretty Woman" by Roy Orbison: He i~ skilled in the art of playing the recorder, and once wanted to be a drummer, but a teacher told him to stick to playing sports. Mr. Freisen also collected Star War action figures when he was younger. He has about 150 action figures now. His favorite holida y i s Christmas, because he can spend it with his family. He also gives odd gifts and wraps them strangely.
Thank-you Mr. Freisen for being a part of this school!

Hmmm ... just the sound of ninth grade is pretty stressful isn't it? It's mainly because we're all different. Difference as in our looks, personalities, behavior, preference, etc. We have our similarities and differences, but teenagers suffer from one demanding thing. Growing up!!! We all have to grow up mentally, physically, and emotionally. Through all the pain and sorrow we have fun and enjoy life. So even if your at home, school, with friends or family and things are not going good keep on striving forward.
Noelle Polk and Dottie Urbanek both say, "Friendships have a much greater value because of ninth grade." Keegan Danaher and Troy Hughes both said that their parents have laid more responsibilities on them since their going into ninth grade. "The people are moody and can be nice on and off," says Dottie, Noelle, Keegan, and Troy. When talking about dating Troy Hughes says, "Ninth grade is easier to get girls, because I'm a man!" So through the pain and puberty we will stand tall. (Well maybe some of us?!)

This year the staff at Goodrich have been pretty strict on the dress code. The staff didn't let a lot of stuff slide. So we decided to ask the students what they thought about !t. Many people said they hated or disliked the dress code. Adding that they should be able to wear whatever they want to. They said that gothic clothes, spaghetti strap tank tops and a little stomach never hurt anyone. Still, many people didn't really care as long as they didn't have to wear uniforms. Such as Alyssa Schuettler; she said, " At least we don't have to wear uniforms. I wear what I've always worn so it doesn't affect me." With all this from the students it's not going to change the staff's decision who feels it creates a more academicaly focused enviroment. So we will just have to deal with it.

High school sports were really important for the 9th graders this year. Alot of them made teams that were higher than they excepted. Such as Tiffany Davison who made varisty volleyball. For volleyball she was the only freshman on the team and helped them make it to the state semi-finals. Three other girls from our school made higher teams. For being wtih sophmores and juniors they fit right in. As for the the freshman teams four of our girls made it. They all had a gray season even though the freshman A team had to play some jv and reserve teams. The freshman B team did great. They even had one of our teachers as their coach. Football Football Football. Is all the guys who played it thought about. Jake Brestel was the only guy that made it above freshman. He was the kicker for the reserve and jv for a couple of games. All of the rest of the talented guys made freshman A and B team. There were a lot of guy.s from goodrich that made the teams. All in all they had a good season. They made a big improvement over the season.
Softball was not one of the sports many people can play so, to the ones that can they did good. From Goodrich we had three girls on the jv team. They helped their team do a good job in there season. There were also six girls on the resvere team. Both of the teams with the help from our freshmans had a great season.

Look at all the strong wrestlers that we have from our school. We have Zach Coffin and Derek Madison made the Lincoln High JV team, but Dustin Shower over-going that. He made Lincoln High Varisty. Unfoutunalety he isn't the only freshman on the team. Jeff Witt made jv for Northeast. We move on to basketball. We will start off with the boys. Jake Brestel agian made jv. With Ms height as an advantage over the other freshmans, and even some juniors. I am sure with his height and talent in mind he will make a big impacted on his team. The Freshman teams have a lot of good and outsanding players on them. It was hard to make the freshman teams, so the people who did good job! So far the freshman teams have had an awesome season.
Then there was girls basketball. Agian Tiffany Davison was the only one who made varsity. Molly Sheilds made jv and Ashely Gilmore made reserve. They are all, including the freshman teams, excellent athletes. The Varsity, jv, and resvre have all had pretty good seasons. There were five girls from Goodrich that made freshman A and six that made freshman B team. The freshman have had a tough season. They have played tough teams , but have gotten better as the season goes along. Then there were the swimmers. Frist we have two Goodrich students who made the Lincoln High Varsity Swim team. Which were Sean Brozaek and Ryan Moseman. Then we also have one student on the Lincoln High JV Swim team who is Koren Plumber.
T h at was just some information about the sports. We do not have any information on the
spring at th i s time.
Goodrich Middle School's Strangest Records 9th grade Section
Molly Sheilds and Ashely Gilmore have a special talent that not many people can do. They can shake their eyes. Not moving them around just back and forth, but actually shaking them really fast. Other people have this talent, too.
The tallest kid in 9th grade, you can pick him out through a crowd. You can see him over anyone. It's no other than Lucas Malik. The shortest person, I bet many of you don't know, that's it's Owen Napue. You can't see him all the time, but you can hear him. For as little as he is, he sure does let you know he is there. There is another special person Chelsea McMeen, she has two different colored eyes and, it's not cool. One eye is blue and the other is brown.

With all the assignments we are given in school some just seem to be harder than others. We have many hard things in life to accomplish, but change from eighth grade to freshman was especially hard because now everything counts towards graduating. What was the most difficult assignment? A lot of people said the research paper in Ms.Graves class .was the hardest. Jodi Neff especially didn 't like it. She said it was really hard and she still got a B. Renee Tr~vizo said she didn't like drawing pictures for books in Mr. Droud's class. Jessica Taylor and Chelsee McMeen said that they didn't like taking notes in U.S. Government , especially when they had to keep them forever. Gwen Higgins prefers not to do Geometry in Ms. Zuggi class. Tyson Crosby and Jake Brestal say that the classification project in Intro to Biology was really difficult. A lot of other people like Ashley Barber, and Dottie Urbanic, oelle Polk, and Jake Simmons think that their U.S. Government class is hard enough as it is. We'll see what next year brings. Since the summer of '98 Goodrich has made many changes in the building. They have changed the way staff and students feel about the appearance of Goodrich. Having windows in the school changed the perspective of everything. Instead of being in a dim and boring looking room, windows have brought sunshine. They also have made students feel less captive. This year Goodrich had hard-working painters covering every room in the building as well as all the lockers. After having our school rooms blue, pink, green, etc. We're very appreciative that they have been changed to a cream color!!!
Besides the paint and windows we have our new lunch tables. Before the long, blue tables; we had the bright, colorful round ones. Some of the lockers have new handles. And for all new comers the maintenance crew added new lockers in the science and F.C.S hall. Outside by the portables new cement was poured. Along with all the small things; we have reaped the benefits of the guiet, comfortable new heating and cooling system, more book shelves, and new teachers.

What do our eighth graders do after school besides homework, that is they watch TV
TV watching has being accused of turning out kids with smaller vocabularies, materialism, and attitudes. What then did the eighth graders deem worthy of their tubetime?
There were a lot of shows and choices, but it all came down to the final five Coming in Last was The Simpsons one of the longest running shows has entertained and enlightened us This show describes a middle class family and their not so average days.
Who's Line Is It Anyway? comes in next. This comical show that is full of sarcastic remarks Hosted by Drew Carey and a group of comedians This ad-lib show is one of a kind
• Fr iends third most watched show in the eighth grade. This show has been running for at least four seasons Six "friends" who go through the day at a coffee shop and singing about the smelly cat.
Holy @#!$ * M/o $@ !!! South Park is number two This very sick and obscene show stars four foul-mouth ch il dren set in a small town setting
The number one hit show is (drum roll please) Popular this over dramatic show is about two girls from different cliques living with the pa ins of what we call high school. That this show deals with most of the problems that teens go through every day life
Hmmm . . . Is there a lesson to be learned here?

Which one 1s which? This 1s the question you might ask the Rabago, Rothwell. Waller. or Wal er twins. They are all 1dent1cal. but what about the Filbert Hilsabeck. Molloy, and Shonibin twins? You see. they are fraternal. These eight pairs of twins are a handful Out of this group the one pair that stands out is Cody and Kyle Waller. The maJQnty of the twins said that being a twin st1nk.s like yesterdays gym socks because they are around each other so much. • We hang around with the same group of people: says Kyle Waller. When asked about birthdays, each pair said that they celebrate 1n different ways. Brandon and Brittany Fibert usually celebrate separately , but this year they had one party together. Elizabeth and Allison Molloy say they celebrate exactly 23 minutes apart. You might thin that being twins makes them special. Well it does.

As we say good bye to the 9th graders we welcome the 8th graders to a new world. So before they go on to the next grade they were asked questions about next year, this year, and told 7th graders what to expect. Starting counter clock wise when asked what was the lea st favorite thing about school Mitchel Memming said that homework and teachers are. -I'm sure that most everyone in the school will agree. Tany Taylor said that the one class that he wouldn't miss was Spanish. Brandon Meyers says that his favorite thing about Goodrich is the gym."Meeting new people was the most important thing that happened to me", Devin Lottman explained. Although the . changes that went on this year in the building were good, Heather Larkins hopes that more improvements go on in the building. From Rachel Vogt 8th grade year she would tell a 7th grader that it 's not as fun as it look s." It's HARD! " Chad

Throughout the 7th graders first week of school here at Goodrich, they are likely to have some new experiences. They get lockers, meet new friends, and begin new and exc1t1ng classes.
One new thing for all seventh graders 1s lockers. For some people like Zephen Miller opening locker. are easy , but for others like Sarah Ma, had a lot of problems with her loc er. For the first time, seventh graders have to memorize many different comb1nat1ons: one for their regular locker, another for their gym locker, and for some, a band locker. The young,ns loc ers might have seem more spacious , compared to the older students , because they did get a locker all to themselves Knowing that they have to share for the next two years, some of them share with friends.
Something else that 7th graders found difficult was locating classes. Ashley F1rley thought that the school was big and that she would get lost, well if that happened she could always ask for directions. For others like Ben Dingman the school was small , and Ii e any other school.
This year seventh graders had new classes. For instance, world language, industrial tech and oral communications. They also had their regular classes like: English, social studies science , and math. They also got to experience a full hour of physicai education. This class of seventh graders was the first class to have the new curriculum for gym. Some of these classes were hard for some but were easy for others. Danielle Median thought that they were easy, but Ashley Firley thought that she would fail all her cla ss es , hopefully not.
Probably the most exc1t1ng thing about their first year at a new school , rs meeting so many more people. Most people made new friends , and some enemies, but mostly friends Some are even privileged enough to be able to hang with some eighth and ninth graders. There are many places where they meet both their new and old friends Joey Kemp meets his friends playing basketball in the gym. Heather Babl met all her new friends ,n her classes.
There are more things that happened during seventh grade than Just the one s mentioned the memories are yours.

Left: Ahhh Creatures from Space!!! Oh maybe not, just 7th graders in Industrial Technology.
The 1999-2000 yearbook staff wanted to get the inside scope on our 7th graders, where they hang out, and what they do on the weekends and after school.
From the responses we got back from our surveys, we can tell that they have many different interests. A lot of the guys say that they like to go skating on Fridays and Saturdays. Many of the girls mentioned shopping and talking on the phone. Matt Allen said, "I like to watch football and play on the computer and his · Nintendo."
"I like to listen to music and go to the movies," is what Alicia Maack told us. Aaron Stephans stated, "I liked to watch t.v. and play basketball."
Ben Dingman remarked, "I like to sleep, because you don't have to do anything I also like to beat up Heather Sabi."
Heather Sabi said, "I like to go to my friends house, because it's fun. I also like i to talk on the phone." As you can see everyone likes different things, and it's not an _t different with the Goodrich 7th graders.

B·etween the years of 1969 and 1999 a lot of things changed.
First off, our school was buil t and opened in November Our technology, fashion, crime, entertainment, culture and sexual differences being common.
Hangout places in '69 consisted of King's, Sonic, and the skating rink on N and 48th Street. Some of the things teens in '99 do were done in '69. Like cruising the streets, hangin out, listin_g to music are still fun 30 years later. Trying to find a girlfriend or boyfriend was and is a fun sport to teens at Goodrich.
If you went to Goodrich 30 years ago you would have worn bright colors, bell bottoms, beads , platforms, wide ties, long hair, sandles , skirts, and lots of patterns. Our tum of the century fashion ideas have returned to wearing ·flares (bellbottoms) and baggy, loose comfortable clothing. That's like the 69' clothing, yet with different styles.
Technology being the "entertainment issue of the year." Has brought computers to many homes, schools, buisnesses, cars, fast food , any where, you name it. Miss your friend in France? In '99 e -m ailing far away buddies was the fastest way to "talk" to some on e . So remember the people of today and the people of yesterda y. Let 1969 live on baby, yea!!!

Happy Birthday Goodrich!!! This year on November the 18th, we celebrated our schools 30th Anniversary. There was music, art, food , and tours of the school. Everyone was invited, including students, staff, alumni, former staff, and community.
Through out the whole celebration there was music provided by Goodrich's 7th grade concert band, the 8th and 9th grade concert band, which were directed by Ms. Lenz, and also the Ambassadors, directed by
30th Ms. Johnson, which did two numbers of
Julie K, Travis T, Kyle W, Brandon M, Grima,;eE Disney and show tunes. There was also a wind quartet, Tracey Grothen, Coriisa Buehner, Koren Plummer, and Kristen Pudenz. And also a Rock combo with Scott Cavadini, Cory Watermyer, and Nick Nole. All were very inpressive.
Mr. Hute had an art display setup in the main hall. There were clay sculptures, pen drawings, chalk drawings, and many paintings. Also included were painted wire sculptures. ory Hart and Mitchell emming struting their stuff ith Ambassadors
Dr. Bargman, Goodrich's first and longest running principle, was there to help celebrate this spectaculer event. When asked what it was like being priciple here so many years, he answered by saying "It was a great experience. I really enjoyed it. They were nice kids. It led to nice things in life." He says that his most memorable moment here was watching Goodrich grow. I asked Dr. Bargman if he had any tips for the students and staff, "Teachers: enjoy your work. Help kids so they can get the best out of school. And for students, contribute to your community and school." M y final question to Dr. Bargman was if he liked to new remodeling that Goodrich overwent in the past few years. "I like the wonderful new remodeling. The new windows are great and they have moved a lot of rooms." We were all very delighted . to have Dr. Bargmen and his wife at our all school celebration.
Thanks to Hy-Vee Catering service, we had many kinds of soup made for the evening. There also was a splendid birthday cake.

Publications is a cla w here ninth grader get the oppurtunity to design and create the yearbook write and publish the new paper, and have a good time while doing it. With lots of freedom to take pictures, attend school e vent , and self-monitor our own time, we all . had lots of fun while learning about re ponsibilitie and deadline . The whole staff worked hard all year on therr different tasks to make the yearbook come together and reflect an image of Goodrich 1999-2000. Sometimes we had to come in after school or on weekend to reach deadlines, but most of us had fun anyway. The best part, the good feelings we got as we watched the yearbook come along from idea brainstormed on the overhead to the final product you are reading now. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do!
