An inspirational message Dr. Lyle Bargman greets Goodrich alumni and staff at the evening celebration with thoughts of the past. Royce Holtgrewe , Pound principal (former vice principal at Goodrich) and Bill Schulenberg listen to a review of the last 20 years .
The 1989-90 yearbook , Twenty Years of Goodrich Olympian Spirit , is very special because it symbolizes 20 years of educational opportunity for young people in the Goodrich Junior High area.
Goodrich was officially opened November 9, 1969 , following nearly four years of planning.
The $1.3 million, two-story brick structure, located at 14th and Superior Streets, is named in honor of Thomas V. Goodrich, a teacher who came to the Lincoln Public Schools in 1903 and rose to the position of director of the department of pupil accounting and research before retiring in 1947.
An anniversary celebration commemorating 20 years of history took place on November 8-10, 1989 at the school. The event centered around two main areas which included room displays, featuring events from past years, and departmental disciplines and

club displays in the library. A carnival and Jun io r -Olympics were held for students during the three day event. Speakers moving from one classroom to another relating their experiences and expertise in many top ics was also a highlight for students and teachers.
An alumn i assembly and dance was held on Friday, November 10. Every student , teacher, administrator, or parent who had stepped through the doors of Goodrich in all of its 20 years were invited to this important occasion.
Former teachers v,tere entertained at a reception before the assembly.
Time out for fun Tessa Songster, Stephanie Schilke, Bill Biven, Robert Karnes , and Jeff Tlamka are intrigued with the movie ' ' Star Wars'' in one of the anniversary celeb ration rooms.
The following pages reflect the spirit, enthusiasm, and pride of Goodrich: a 20 year tradition that w ill ' continue into the future.
Taking part in Goodrich memories Jeremy Swanson, Nikki Reifschneider, Eddie Brown, Stacy Angus, Brenda Reeves, Chantelle Craig, April Coombes, David Bice, Melinda Griggs and friends have fun during the three-day event.

- Luetta Sandquist
In this 20th Anniversary year at Goodrich we dedicate the 1989-90 yearbook to a caring and devoted teacher and counselor, Mrs. Luetta Sandquist.
Luetta Wilson Sandquist was born in Mead" Nebraska. She graduated from Fremont High School, Midland Lutheran College in Fremont, Nebraska, and received a degree in Behavioral Science and Elementary Education. She also graduated from UNL with a master's degree in Behavioral Science and Secondary Education in 1975, and later added 36 hours beyond her master's degree with a certificate in counseling.
Her career in teaching began i n 1963 in District 72 in Cuming County, Nebraska , where she taught in a one room schoolhouse for two years.
Beginning in 1965 , Mrs. Sandquist taught sixth grade in the Lyons Public School in Lyons, Nebraska for three years. From 1968-1969 , she taught in District #1 in Burt County, Nebraska, and from 1969-1970 , she spent a year at Viles School in Burt County. Mrs. Sandquist came to Goodrich in 1970 where her first assignment was in mathematics and reading. She has served as a counselor for the past 15 years.
Mrs. Sandquist is married to Raymond Sandquist. They have four grown children, Douglas , Kathryn, Scott and Kurt. They also have ten grandch ildren
Mrs. Sandquist cares for young people . She commented "I love to watch the 'squirrely ' l ittl e seventh graders grow
into quite mature ninth graders. I ' ve always especially enjoyed the ninth graders as they are looking at high school and beyond, concerned about relationships , responsibility, etc."
In sadder moments she added, "Memorable in a sad way, are those students who have become involved in drug and alcohol abuse, depriving themselves of the best life they could have."

It's an honor to be a Goodrich Olympian. Who is a Goodrich Olympian? A teacher? A student? A young person, or is it an older person? The answer is any or all of these could be an Olympian; anyone who has attended or been associated with Goodrich Jr. High has that honor.
I consider being an Olympian an honor because of the many opportunities I have had during the years I have attended Goodrich: an opportunity to meet new friends that I hope to have for a very long time, and an opportunity to learn. There are a variety of ways to grow and mature at Goodrich whether it be through clubs, sports events, friendships, or in the classroom. I have learned things that will not only help me now but will help me prepare for my future. Another opportunity is to participate in activities such as clubs ranging from Explorers to Gourmet cooking, and sports activities ranging from tennis to football.
Lastly, being an Olympian has helped me learn what pride is all about. I take pride in the school I attend, the friends I have made, the education I have acquired, and the activities I have been involved in, and the support Goodrich has given me.
I will always be proud to be called a Goodrich Olympian!

I Remember When
I remember when I first came here
It seems far away
And yet it's so near. It was just another
Part of my life
So why'd I feel that I was under a knife. I got my locker
On about the tenth day I couldn't get it open That dial was in my way!
Now where the heck Is room 109
It shouldn't be far I found lunch just fine!
But now here I am A ninth grader (WOW!)
And as I look back I think to myself, "HOW?! " It really is great
When I look back at this tim I feel good about this
Because I made out just fih
But I guess you can't win High school next year?! I'll be in grade ten
Now that's something to fea r !

Sean Danie ,
As the troubled youth, we stand our ground, but thoughts of the future are seldom found. In our minds, we only obtain, the sunshine brightness, and the falling of rain.
It seems we act as if we're the last flowers in the field, wanting to grow up, but never getting past that last yield.
To us the importance of life only contains, the whispers of friendship, the sound of laughter, and the tears that are shed caused by love's refrain.
What we learn now, will be carried along with us, but we also take the memories , leaving none behind, except the ones that we must.
But the best part about our struggle to the top, is the love of family; that won't ever stop. With each other we have grown, but only to continue, together we can do anything, -and that will always stand true.
As we go out into a world much larger than the one we know, along goes with us all that we have been taught.
Although we go as independent, and wanting to be on our own, our togetherness of today, will never fade or fail to show. What we learn in the present, will explain all the past, and allow us to face, whatever the future shall cast.

Tom morrow
Tommorrow is fovever . Today is almost gone. Yesterday , forgotten never. We are the future , and we are strong . This is our challenge . This is our dream. Keeping the promise not giving off steam. To solve our problems in peacef u I ways to keep our strength throughout our days to take the future, but not waste it. For us and our children. It ' s never too late , to remember the past , and change our fate. To love the world , both day and night. I wish I may I wish I might. I wish this for me and I wish this for you to come with me and be two. Then one by one they'll file in my brothers and my sisters and my next of kin. Then the challenge is met and the dream is real. Then we understand and then we feel. The triumph and the sorrow, the pain and the joy . We'll have made the world a better place for all the girls and boys.

Where the cool go to school Nick Wessel speaks for every student at Goodrich by proving that, "All you have to do is be yourself. " Gina Emery (background) thinks so, too!
As I look through a telescope of great focus, I see an awesome symbol; a symbol of promise, pride and honor. This symbol represents our school, Goodrich Jr. High, and a Goodrich Olympian.
To me, education is the key to success. I'm expressing not only my feelings but many other students ' feelings as well. There is no other school like ours; we are so unique compared to others. Our teachers are the best around and are always here to give us a helping hand.
Beyond our academic atmosphere there is a sense of pride in our sports and activities. Our school has captured many city titles in various sports, all the way from wrestling to track. Our students are also musically and artistically inclined and involved in many school activities.
In my view of Goodrich, there is no end to success, but only a beginning. Taking all this into account, knowing there are only great students who go to Goodrich, it makes me proud to be a Goodrich Olympian. Aren't you glad you are an Olympian?

Goodrich pride is a Goodrich Olympian saying, ''Goodrich Jr. High is the best and I'm a person that helps make it that way." Representing Goodrich as a member of an . athletic team, a club, and special classes -such as art, music, Yearbook, and Journalism, and having a positive attitude as a student, helps students receive positive recognition in the community.
I am proud of Goodrich Jr. High because I believe the students, parents, and the staff, have worked together as a team in developing the outstanding programs available to students.
First, I believe the strength of our programs is the willingness of the staff to take time to know each student and dedicate themselves to make student experiences successful.
The second important contribution that Goodrich has made is a commitment to assist in the training of Middle Level Teachers to work specifically with the young adelescents through Teacher Corps and the University of Nebraska Intern program.
The third contribution has been the leadership role Goodrich has played in leading the way for implementa:. tion of the Middle School concept.
I am glad to have been a part of the development of Goodrich because as the principal from the opening of the school until now, I have been associated with many outstanding students, parents, and staff; our successes have been numerous.
