In the spring of 1980, the Lincoln Public Schools Junior High Principals Council decided to step back and consider schooling of children eleven to fifteen years old. This decision was not based upon building use nor administrative demands, but rather the need to deter~ine if the present junior high structure interferes with or restricts the effort of staff and students in the teaching/ learning process. The decision led to the district-wide commitment toward a Junior High Study Committee.
The Goodrich staff has participated this year in identifying "Thi rteen Guiding Principles" for the "School in the Middle" and practic e and procedures which support these principles.

The Junior High Study Committee will continue through next year to set forth a district model for the "School in the Middle" which is designated to be implemented in September of 1982.
The Goodrich staff has also been involved in a special Teacher Corps Project. The U L-LPS Teacher Corps Project sponsored cJasses in Adolescent Psychology and three classes in the use of the computer which were attended by several staff members. Developing a Goodrich Leamer Profile to help both teachers and students to understand student learning preferences has been a major project this year. It is hoped that when this profile is further refined, it will provide information that will help students learn better and teachers teach better.

While talking with several of the ninth grade kids we learned that they were very excited about entering high school in the fall. Paul Nagel said that he was planning to attend Northeast and that he was looking forward to studying about careers. Chuck Sikes stated that his future goal was to play football for Lincoln High and that two of his best experiences at Goodrich had been his IIA class and being student assistant for Mr. Mackenstadt. Jodi Ebert, another ninth grader, said, "I'm just anxious to go to high school so that I can take Drivers Ed and learn how to drive!"

Students gain valuable experience
This year's volleyball teams worked very hard to end up with a 3rd place for the Varsity and a 1st place tie for the Reserves. The 1980-81 season began with a loss for both teams, bu t the girls came back to win most all of their other games. The final record was 6-3 for the Varsity team and 8-1 for the Reserves. Most of the girls have stated that they would like to go on and continue playing volleyball in high school where they would enjoy more competition. " These girls will be very good in high school," says Coach Hoyt.
The volleyball teams ended their fine season with an outin g to Crete.
