TEACHER AIDES

"Mrs. Flanagin, are you sure those are all G-rated films?"

Goodrich is fo.rtunate to have ten full-time teacher aides employed this year. They assist the students, as well as the teachers, in a variety of ways. The teacher aides are assigned to the reading, math, and special education teams. There is also one employed in the audio visual area, one in the nurse's office and another one as supervisor of the Work and Plan Room.

The Teacher Corps Project expanded this year. In addition to being at Goodrich, the project also included Belmont and Lincoln High. This has been a planning year, with the Teacher Corps staff working with the teachers in each of the schools to plan for what the schools will do with Teacher Corps during the next two years. Some topics that all schools will focus on include community involvement, school climate and learning styles. Ten teachers worked on the planning committee at Goodrich.

WRESTLING

The ninth grade volleyball teams met some tough competition this year. Their season ended with a 2-6 record for the Varsity team and a 3-5 record for the Reserves. The underclassmen fared quite well and claimed several victories. All of the volleyball teams were coached by Mrs. Marcia Duckworth and Mr. Jim Hoyt.

The ninth grade wrestlers had a victorious season. Once practice and workouts started, the team showed promise from the beginning in early meets. Their final record was 4-2 and the team captured third place in the city. Gary Schenneman placed first in the all-city meet. He also holds the record for the fastest pin-46 seconds. David Hayes claimed the greatest number of wins-9, and Todd Nichelson scored the most points-17. Coach Swanson said, "These wrestlers who participated this year were outstanding and very hard workers. They did a good job."

The seventh and eighth grade teams had a fairly good season. It was unfortunate that the number of participants was so small.

Girls Small Group and Swing Choir displayed their talents on several different occasions this year . They sang for school concerts and Senior Citizen homes in the community. The Small Group performed at the Blue and Gold Banquet at West Lincoln and Swing Choir entertained members of a Masonic Lodge and the Bryan Service League. Mr. Mackenstadt , the director of the vocal groups, informed us that plans for a Swing Choir Exchange Program with the Lincoln High Sophomore Swing Choir are underway at this time , and he and his students are very excited about it.

The Band I and Orchestra students, under the direction of Mr. Robert Olmsted, had a very busy year. They performed at three public concerts and gave performances for several of the Lincoln elementary schools. Also, some of the older students participated in the All School Band Festival. These students are looking forward to the experience of working with a larger musical group in high school.

The Explorers Club is open only to ninth graders. It provides a great opportunity for those students interested in a career. As a member of the club a student has the opportunity to explore some of the many careers and jobs in the world of work. This is done through resource speakers, field trips, and on-site individual shadowing experiences. Mrs. Ann Stokes was the club's sponsor. Drama Club is for students interest~d in acting or working on a stage crew. The Drama Club members and their sponsors, Mrs. Geri Imel and Ms. Deb Steffes, spent many hours practicing for the plays which were held during the year. Their spring production, "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz," was one of the largest productions ever held at Goodrich. The group also attended "Joy Nite" at Lincoln High as one of their special group activities.

The Yearbook staff consisted of 13 students th i s year. Each member of the class was involved in drawing the layout work , writing the copy and taking candid pictures for the book. "It requires a great deal of hard work and cooperation to produce a good yearbook," said Mrs. Medel , " and I feel this year's staff did a fine job!"

The Student Council's officers for the year were: Rich Skc3ggs, President: Todd Duncan, First-Vice Pres i dent; and Jesse Lopez, Second-Vice President. Mrs. Geri Imel sponsored the organization. Some of their activities were leadership training, the newspaper, pop night, the Turkey Ball, school dances and a spring carnival.

MARDI GRAS

The traditional Mardi Gras carnival, often referred to as "Fat Tuesday," was held on February 19th on the school stage. All of the students had the opportunity to attend the celebration during their Basic Studies classes.

Mrs. Kathie Uhrmacher organized the carnival and her eighth and ninth grade French students assisted her in

making all the decorations, ordering the food, and running the booths.

The French students celebrate Mardi Gras because it is a special day of feasting and merrymaking in France, held in prepa~ation for Lent. There it is celebrated with masked balls, parades, floats, rich food and drinking.
