Sixth Grade

- Sixth Grade

In August Goodrich welcomed 114 new students. This year's sixth grade class was the second largest sixth grade class ever to enter Goodrich. Mr. Breed described this class as a very lively and ambitious group of students.

In their Basic Studies classes, the students completed units on energy, science fiction, policymakers, agriculture, and Nebraska ethnic studies. Their field trips included a visit to the Animal Science and Soil Science Departments at the University of Nebraska, a trip to the Capitol to observe the Legislature in session, and an after-

noon visit to a farm. Miss Cathey Stuart, a Basic Studies teacher, said the students found these experiences very meaningful.

The sixth graders expressed great appreciation for their music classes at Goodrich. They said they found it very exciting to learn about music and enjoyed making up their own songs.

Another special experience for the sixth grade class was their first dance. One student made the comment that even though he couldn't dance, he still •enjoyed talking and having fun with his friends.

Yearbook

"Hey, Ken! Here comes Mrs. Medel, so look busy."

Mr. Tim Marshall-Our Photographer.

Yearbook class is an elective class for ninth grade students. Only students who have maintained good grades and have shown responsibility are recommended to register for the class. Students interested in becoming staff members are then permitted to take the class on a trial basis fourth quarter of their eighth grade year. At the end of the fourth quarter, Mrs. Medel selects the staff. This year she chose fourteen students. One staff member, Mike Geren, left Goodrich during the year, but he did assist us in the early preparation of our book.

Our two projects this year were selling programs for the Lincolnfest Hot Air Balloon Races and the selling of donuts at school. On March 16th, the staff traveled to Marceline, Missouri and toured their publishing compan~.

The staff would like to extend its appreciation to a faculty member who spent many long ·hours working on the photography for our book, Mr. Tim Marshall. A staff member, Ken Hammer, assisted Mr. Marshall with the faculty section.

"It has been a fun and rewarding experience working with this great group of kids," said Mrs. Medel. "I'm pleased with their hard work and cooperation."

Mardi Gras

Mrs Kathy Uhrmacher's advanced French classes organized a lovely Mardi Gras this year. It was ~n all-day festivity, an educational experience in French culture, which the students truly enjoyed. The students were given background information in their Basic Studies classes in order to make the experience more meaningful, and each Basic Studies teacher brought his class to Mardi Gras at a scheduled time. Approximately fifty students helped with the preparations. Hot dogs, ice cream, donuts, crepes and French candies were sold. The students also enjoyed playing a variety of games.
