What do you think makes a good teacher? We students think a good teacher is one who finds interesting ways to teach, a person who is really concerned about how well you do, and a person you can talk to as a friend He is someone who is willing to spend his own time to help you. We think our 1977-78 Goodrich faculty has many good teachers.
Good teaching is the result of many hours of diligent effort. Our Goodrich faculty works hard to find varied ways to teach us. They spend extra hours attending classes and workshops to strengthen their knowledge of subject content and teaching styles. Besides fulfilling their regular teaching .duties, our teachers plan assemblies, arrange field trips, sponsor clubs and tutor after school hours. These are just a few of the many extra activities our teachers are involved in at Goodrich. Conferencing , with individuals or groups o f students, is also an important part of most teachers' days. The Goodrich students are proud to have such a fine faculty.

It is an exciting experience to be a ninth grader at Goodrich. As underclassmen, we longed for the day when we could say, "This is our last year!" or "Soon, we will graduate!" Finally, it has arrived and we are enjoying each day of this busy year. As ninth graders, we have iearned to write good term papers and taken an active part in athletics, clubs, and activities in our school. Planning the Valentines Assembly was a very special activity for our class. Hopefully, we have been good leaders to the underclassmen who are following us. High school -soon awaits us with new challenges and new friends, and we are anxiously looking forward to those special days.

Eighth Grade -
"This eighth grade class has a lot of energy and potential; as well as high ideals," says Ms. Donna Sinor, one of the eighth grade teachers. "They work very hard to achieve the goals they set for themselves." One learning experience the students truly enjoyed this year was doing a series of simulations in their Basic Studies class. They wer·e able to retrace Jeremiah Hacker's trail and to cross the ocean as immigrants, later landing on Ellis Island. The eighth graders are busily involved in athletics and clubs. The coaches and club leaders have ·commented that this class is ambitious ancl enjoys having fun. Several of the eighth grade students have remarked that they are really looking forward to being ninth graders next year.

Seventh Grade
Seventh Grade
"Enthusiastic" is the word used to describe the seventh graders at Goodrich. Their teachers say that they are a very unique group of students , eager to learn all they can. The students are genuine and sensitive and they possess much talent. There is a wide range of feelings and thoughts among the seventh graders and this shows in their actions and attitudes. Many members of this class are developing new friendships by taking advantage of the ·after school intramural opportunities which are being offered to them. There are many leaders in this class that are doing positive things for their school.

Sixth Grade
Sixth Grade
One sixth grader described his first year in junior high ~s "thrilling, but very frightening." He said that finding rooms, meeting all the new teachers, and figuring out his schedule, were a few of the difficulties a sixth grader must face when he begins the school year at Goodrich. He said that since all that has passed, he is now finding school "thrilling" because he is learning a great deal in all of his classes and he is enjoying new experiences, such as attending assemblies, going on field trips, and participating in extra-curricular activities. The faculty members agree that this new class is fun to c.., teach because the students have so many questions, are willing to work hard, and show a very sincere tJ'
interest in their school.

The Royal Court Assembly has been a meaningful and purposeful tradition for Goodrich students. Inspired by the royal assembly traditions of other junior high schools in Lincoln, the ninth grade class of 1970 organized the first Royal Court Assembly at Goodrich. This year the ninth grade class held this special event on February 17th. The voting for the attendants was done by the ninth graders. The boys voted for the girls and the girls voted for the boys. First, ten candidates were selected. Then, from these ten names were chosen the reigning king and queen. Congratulations to Brent and Cindy and their attendants!

Clubs and Activities
This year's Student. Council consisted of sixteen members. The governing body was organized into three committees. The first committee, the Constitution Committee , took on the task of rewriting the Constitution of Goodrich. The second committee, the Outreach Committee, sponsored pep-night and various other activities. Thirdly, the Dance Committee, confirmed the dates for the stnool's dances and arranged for the chaperones and sponsors for the dances. The Student Crnlncil sponsored a paper drive in October, the Turkey Ball in November, and was responsible for the planning of the beautiful Valentines Dance.
Members of the Red Cross Club spent many hours this year being of service to needy people. The group sponsored a bake sale in September, and sold honey on Honey Sunday. The students assisted the Salvation Army at Christmas time, sold carnations on Valentines Day, and made a visit to the Clark Jeary Retirement Home.
The purpose of the Health Careers Club is to provide an opportunity for students to visit people in different health-related occupations in the city. This year the club's field trips included a visit to the Regional Center, the Visually-Handicapped Center, the Blood Bank, a fire station, and the National Weather Service.

"Why can't Mardi Gras last forever?"
Mardi Gras
Mardi Gras, sometimes referred to as, "Fat Tuesday," was held on February 7th. The French classes, under the supervision of Mrs. Kathy Uhrmacher, sponsored the merry carnival. Every year this French tradition has been celebrated at Goodrich. The students spent their day eating imported candies, hot dogs and ice cream. They, also, enjoyed such games as the dart throw, basketball and golf.
"Every party needs a clown."

Athletics
"Good sportsmanship" and "a feeling of accomplishment" were goals of Goodrich's athletic teams this year. Several of the coaches remarked that they were very irr;ipressec;l with the students' seriousness and willingness to work hard. One of the coaches, Mr. Jerry Sovey, commented that the attitude of the students, concerning their losses as well as their wins, was remarkable. He said that the students really applied themselves and put forth their best efforts.
One team that experienced great success, its fiq;t undefeated season, was the girls' ninth grade varsity basketball team. Their coaches were Mrs. Rae Green and Mr. Dave Lainez.
