One of the many beautiful birdhouses in Dawes' Garden

In Dawes' third year with a Community Learning Center, (C.L.C.),our C.L.C. has made the school and the community a stronger environment. Carey Collingham, the director of CLC, discussed how Senator Ben Nelson created the C.L.C.s. Mr. Collingham listed the three simple goals for C.L.C.. These goals are academic enrichment, to strengthen families, and to build a better community; Mr. Collignham said "We aren't quite there, but we are ·g~tting closer." Dawes' C.L.C. program is probably the biggest afterschool program in town and sure has left a great influence on the students, the teachers, and the community.

A stepping stone with colorful daisies on it.

A new year means "out with the old, in with the new". We have all changed so m ch since coming to Dawes. Sixth grade , although they are "newbies" to Dawes, they have quickly adjusted to middle school life. They have faced the challenge of becoming " middle schoolers" by learning to become more independent. The 7th graders might feel lost and forgotten being wedged in the middle , however, they are a vital part of Dawes Middle School and the information they learn this year will help them when they become 8th graders. As 8th graders, we have the pressure of what lies ahead; high school! Each one of us looks back on our years at Dawes and remembers all we have learned, the adventures we had together, and the challenges we faced. We have gone from being the "new faces" to the "finishing aces" in three short years. All of us have so much to accomplish in the upcoming years. Together, we have grown stronger and more resilient so that when we complete the last 50 meters of running the mile, finishing the MAT tests, and look forward to moving on t new and bigger schools and mak • g new frien s, we know our journey together has made u~ all part of th Dawes family. .

Take time to think about it. We've all been through something that has made us stronger. Though we may not pay attention to all of them, it all pays off in the end. We asked one student from each grade what has made them stronger over the past
