Also, to the teachers, parents, and counselors delight, the TeamMates Program seems to have an exceptional affect on students. It keeps them in school and help students achieve better grades. Furthermore, the adult TeamMate stays with their TeamMate throughout their school years.

For the adult, they get to know more about the younger generation and interact with them. Plus, they can be a role model, a friend, and maybe even change a student's life in a positive way. This program also helps the adult TeamMate

with their goals. One TeamMate, Terry Bailey said, "My goal in life is to enjoy it, quoting Mrs.Fabry on a remark she had made, ' Either you're part of the problem or part of the solution.' I would like to think I'm part of the solution. The TeamMates Program helps today youths discover the value of education and establishes own goals in the adult."

Even though the TeamMates Program i flourishing, there's still improvements that need to be done. Mr . Yost, who's in charge of the program, wants to have rriore of a diverse culture, more male TeamMates, people who have a disabilities, and to increase the amount of TeamMates total. Mrs.Yost wishes that more people from the community would get involved in the TeamMate Program and be

able to take part in a student's education. Hopefully, more students will have a TearnMate once the program becomes larger. •

When Terry Bailey was asked why she felt other students hould have a TeamMate, she replies, "It's a way for each student to feel individually important within the larger· community."

Hopefully, this program will continue in the future and all schools will partake in it.

Dawes Middle School's Music Department has been pretty busy this year. The new after school chorus, Divine Harmony and the Mixed Chorus groups, had their first perfomance on January 13, 1999. It was a huge success. The Jazz Band is still in full effect and bringing more jazzy tunes to the audiences' listening ears. At Norwood Park Elementary School on January 25th, the Jazz Band performed for the school's Pancake Feed Both adults and children enjoyed the tunes of Night Train, Kansas City and other terrific songs. On February 2nd, the All-City Festival was held at Pershing Auditorium with many of Dawes's top band students playing both in the Orchestra and the regular Prep Band. The Solo-Ensemble Contest was held on March 25th and several of Dawes's talented teenagrs participated and were judged in the contest and were rewarded with Excellent and Superior ratings. To wind up the school year, Divine Harmony and th.e Jazz B.and are going to tour a few of Lincoln's elementary schools on May 3rd, singing and playing for the future singers and musicians in attempts to inspire them to come and join Dawes's excellent Music Department.
