Drama students show attitudes
Ms. Lisa Betts, Dawes Middle school Drama teacher since 1991, said, "The Drama program is focused around drama classes, featuring 2 major productions a year."
The enrollment has tripled since 1991. She has created Advanced Drama and established the Dawes Drama Players. She hopes that her students will gain confidence and creativity from her classes.
Ms.Betts said, "The first semester play, "Baby" was a successful production of a physical comedy for beginning actors. The second semester play , "Alice" is a social commentary on the original "Alice in Wonderland."

Mr. Everts loves to coach because he thinks they can }earn more than they can in the classroom. Mr. Brown said that he likes to coach because he likes the interaction with the students. They both said that the season went very well because the players gave their all. There were 15 to 20 players. From all the games they played they won 2 and lost 2 they also had some rain-out games. Mr. Everts said the funniest moments were watching the kids learn. Mr. Brown said the funniest moments were every practice game. Mr. Brown said that the best player on the team was Jarell Roach.

Darlene Rischling , Dawes principal for 16 years, is retiring at the end of the'96 school year.
She has been in the teaching profession for 42 years. She started when she was 18.
She decided to start teaching because she only had the choices of being a secretary, a teacher , or a nurse. She narrowed it down to becoming a nurse or teacher but then an incident that happened swung her vote. While she was a volunteer at a hospital one of the patients that she cared for passed away. After that happened she decided to become a teacher because no one would die while she taught.
She became a principal because she wanted to have more of an influence on what kids learned and did, Mrs. Rischling said.
One of her greatest accomplishments was to implement the philosophy of middle level education.
The greatest influence on her life was from John Prasch. He was a superintendent for LPS. He was also her mentor. He is now deceased. Mrs. Rischling is a great lady and a great principal. She will be missed.
