In 1981, Lincoln High won the Heavyweight city championship. East came in close by placing second, followed by Southeast and Northeast respectively.

Culler's Ninth Grade Cross Country team had several high points. First, the 1981 team had the most girls on it in Culler history, which included Kim Hoffman, Mary Davis, and Cindy Hansen. Another was the consistency of Bill Bundy's running, who finished third or fourth in every race. The highlight of the year was when Bryan Smolik outraced everyone in the city in recording a 10 minute 12 second time in the 3000 meter run. This run broke the city record and set the Pioneer Park course record.
Girls' Basketball
Varsity
After getting off to a slow start, the ninth grade girls' varsity basketball team eventually put together what turned out to be a very good season. Finishing the year with 6 wins and 2 losses, the Culler girls were able to claim second place in the city Considering that the "two losses were by a combined total of only 5 points, it was a very rewarding and enjoyable year.
Important team contributions were made by Jenny Woodward (leading scorer), Tammy Waterman (leading rebounder), Angie Cunningham (second in scoring, third in rebounding), Debbie Ahlquist (second in rebounding, third in scoring), and Deb Jones (second in scoring). Other girls who made significant contributions to the team effort were Teresa Swoboda, Lori Svendsen, Kathy Bates, and Yolanda Moss.
Congratulations to all of these individuals on a fine season.

Culler started the wrestling season with ten wrestlers; however, only seven wrestlers finished the season. Overall the season went very well. The guys worked hard and this was evident by the results of the City Meet. Culler placed fifth overall with only six wrestlers _ in the competition. Individual city winners were: Stewart Mart - second place at 119 pounds, Pat McCashland - third place at 155 pounds, Rick Brokaw - third place at 105 pounds, and Kent Wells - third place at Heavyweight. Keith Whisenhunt and Chris Dowding both had excellent efforts in their classes. Steve Lang did not compete at City because of a neck injury.

Music

Time for me to fly!
Culler has many instrumental groups. Seventh, eighth and ninth grade bands are for all ~ind players and string ensembl~ is for any string player. Many times these groups are combined for concerts. Stage Band meets two times each week for 2½ hours credit each semester. The members of Stage Band are chosen by tryouts in the fall of the school year.
Many small groups and ensembles are organized during the year. These members are chosen from outstanding players. They perform at Culler Concerts and at elementary schools.
A beginning guitar class is offered each year to all students that own a guitar and want to participate in an early morning class at 7:30. This class meets once a week.

Vocal ·Music

Is everyone ready to sing?
Vocal Music has two primary functions - singing and performance. Two, three, and four part singing is done in most of the classes, and each semester at least one public performance is given. Music fundamentals and appreciation of various music styles are studied. Often a musical play will be presented.
This year two small vocal groups are open by audition to eighth and ninth graders. They rehearse after school and make public appearances in the community throughout the year.
The 8th and 9th grade girls performed at the Winter Concert
The Carousels performed many times during the school year.
This year Culler has had two dances so far -The Denim Dance on October 9th, and the Time Warp Dance on December 11th. Another dance is scheduled for April 2nd. The ninth graders will also be having a Promotion Dance on May 28th.

Student Council
The Student Council at Culler is made up of four members from the seventh grade, four members from the eighth grade, and five members from the ninth grade. The Student Council gets the music and refreshments for the school dances along with making the decorations and selling the tickets. The Council uses the money from the dances to make small improvements to the school building. Student Council is sponsored by Mrs. Becker and Mrs. Outson. They talk with the rest of the school teachers and administration and provide leadership and suggestions.

Yearbook

Oh, what a feeling!
Yearbook is a first semester class held during sixth period. We have five photographers and thirteen staff members. The Yearbook staff does layouts and writes copy. Photographers process the film and print it. Several staff members help with the typing. Everyone is assigned pages that they are responsible for, but everyone helps each other.
