Economics of Labour Markets
INTRODUCTION
Labour markets are at the core of economic activity and affect all members of society. This course applies detailed economic analysis to selected issues of importance in the labour market.
Topics vary and may include: women in the Canadian labour market; discrimination in hiring and promotion; unemployment; immigration, returns to education and compensation systems.
OBJECTIVES
The objective of the course is to train students in economic policy analysis of individuals, firms, and governments, and the various outcomes of their interactions within the labour market.
It will address human capital investment and returns to education and training, gender and labour market outcomes, immigration/labour mobility, optimal compensation systems and the impacts of COVID-19 pandemic on labour markets.
