Devastated by the murder of George Floyd in the spring of 2020, a group of LCC students felt compelled to become more vocal and active in the fight against systemic racism. In the wake of that event, and with guidance and support from several staff members, they formed the Coalition of Racial Equality (CORE).

In this safe space where inquiry, collaboration, and development of leadership and listening skills are fostered, students from grade 7 to Pre-University meet weekly to discuss issues of local and global inequality and inequity. From leading discussions on racism and discrimination with Junior School students, to helping facilitate schoolwide initiatives, such as Orange Shirt Day and Black History Month, the members of the CORE group find ways to initiate meaningful dialogue. Students are empowered to raise their voices in a constructive way and focus on what matters to them in an ever-evolving conversation.
