International Women's Day 2020 event a success

Nundah Neighbourhood Centre hosted a rock-painting event to celebrate International Women's Day on Tuesday 10 March. Fifteen wonderful ladies attended and got creative in an activity that combined art with a message of women's empowerment in keeping with this year's theme of gender equality.
The feedback from those who attended was very positive, describing the day as "togetherness, helpful helpers and strength of friendship", "a very friendly environment where I met awesome new women and shared stories", and "enjoyed the chats with the ladies and painting my rocks". Women described feeling empowered, supported, confident and understood.
Rocks that were painted for this event have been left in Nundah community spaces as part of a worldwide painted rocks movement which aims to spread messages of hope, kindness and happiness by leaving painted rocks in public places for people to find. So keep your eyes peeled in Nundah and you may be lucky enough to find one of the creations!

Support the Cystic Fibrosis Queensland Bookshop
The Cystic Fibrosis Queensland (CFQ) Bookshop in Nundah not only supports Queenslanders living with cystic fibrosis, but it is also an important community hub where customers and volunteers can come to connect with one another.
As libraries close to the public and people remain in their homes, the affordable books that the CFQ Bookshop sells may become a much-needed escape for some.
If you're looking for an escape (from the safety of your home), contact the CFQ Bookshop on the details below and you can request a book, magazine or author – or ask to be surprised!

ANZAC Day - Saturday 25 April 2020
RSL Queensland cares deeply about the welfare of their members, the veteran community and the general public. The Coronavirus pandemic is something that is of great concern to many in the community, particularly among the older generation.
On 16 March, RSL Queensland advised its Sub Branches to cancel AN- ZAC Day commemorations in light of the emerging Coronavirus public health emergency.
RSL Queensland now calls on Australians to honour the service of our Defence forces, past and present, by standing at the end of their driveways for a minute's silence this ANZAC Day.
With ANZAC Day services, events and parades cancelled across the nation due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, RSL Queensland State President Tony Ferris said such a display of solidarity would send a powerful message of support to Australia's Defence community.
"This is an idea that has gathered momentum in social media, and we agree it's a brilliant way to collectively honour the dedication, commitment and sacrifice of our service people – even though we cannot physically be together," Mr Ferris said.
"This ANZAC Day, I'd like to see all Australians participate in a different kind of Dawn Service, an intimate reflection conducted on a mass scale that unites us all in the ANZAC spirit."
He said the qualities evoked by the ANZAC spirit – ingenuity, humour, endurance, courage and mateship – were more important than ever in times of uncertainty.
"Regardless of the form this year's ANZAC Day commemorations take, let's show that Australians will always remember those who have served and sacrificed for this nation," he said.
