MODERN BRIDE Bringing this issue together has been such a pleasure and a joy. This year has really seen the return to Destination Weddings for Australian brides.

We have seen so many breathtaking weddings that have taken us into a whole other world.

Over the coming pages we take you inside the wedding of our cover bride, swimwear icon Natasha Oakley who opens our Destination Italy Special which includes a look into the movie set worthy celebrations of Billy Mitchell and Michael Porter. We then take you to New York in our Bride’s Diary with Fashion Designer Bridget Bahl whose nuptials and celebrations were deemed wedding of the year. We then return a little closer to home to profile the best wedding venues across the pond in our beautiful Destination New Zealand feature.

Capturing the Love Story of entertainers and X Factor finalists Matt and Jess Price at The Robertson Hotel was a special day. Some couples we spend time with share a love that you can feel immediately. Having been together for 13 years and spending 24/7 in each other’s company, I was

keen to find out how they keep their love alive, and I hope you find Jess’s tips and advice as inspiring as I do.

As I send this issue to print, I continue work on our new Love Story Magazine website. A dedicated life style space that takes The Wedding Series into a new and exciting universe. It’s been a very big year for Ole Lynggaard Copenhagen, celebrating 60 years of the brand your father Ole Lynggaard created. What has been the highlight for you?

As Creative Director for Ole Lynggaard, people often refer to ‘Charlotte’s Universe’. How would you describe this beautiful place and concept?

There are so many special moments and memories. We have journeyed through our archives and found so many photographs, sketches, and unique jewellery pieces from the last six decades that reflects the amazing history of the brand. I am very proud of what the company has achieved over the last sixty years, and I am honored to contribute to the continuous journey of the brand. This year we launched The Funky Stars Collection – a new collection of spectacular stars. I designed the Funky Stars because I wanted to create something special for our 60th anniversary year. In June, we welcomed friends, family, partners, and press from all around the world to celebrate the anniversary. We hosted a summery garden party at our headquarters north of Copenhagen during the day and a spectacular dinner party in the heart of in Copenhagen in the evening. Lastly, at the end of the year, we are curating a solo exhibition at a Danish museum located close to our headquarters. We have dreamed of bringing our jewellery into a museum for a long time – a space of immersion, insight, and creativity.

And to be able to share this experience with our father is very special to us.

We couldn’t ask for a better way to end our 60th anniversary year.

I am mesmerized by soft organic shapes, and I am very much smitten with the wonders of nature. Most of what I feel passionate about can be traced back to nature. Also, contrasts and textures inspire me a lot.

That is also the reason why I adore working with different creative processes and forms of expressions. My style is first and foremost versatile – timeless and playful.

Being part of a family business, how do you navigate your personal and professional family relationships?

We have always enjoyed working together, so it happens very naturally.

We push each other and inspire each other a lot. Me and my brother and our children have grown up with the family company, so it is very natural for us to be a part of the journey in one way or the other. We have a lot of trust, love and respect for each other, and our different competencies and skills are what lifts us higher as a company. It is a lot of hard work, but we have fun, it must be fun. We always say: Family first, then company.

What role does your husband Michel play in your creative process? How does your own Love Story influence your designs?

We both adore being creative, and we inspire each other a lot. I was sparked to create The BoHo Collection when my husband and I visited Pietrasanta in Italy where we took a sculpturing course. For centuries, Pietrasanta has been a hotspot for sculptors due to the local Carrara marble and the professional bronze casters and stone carvers in the town. He is a big support and I lean on him a lot.

This year you worked closely with your daughter Sofia Lynggaard Normann on the preparations for the 60th Anniversary event. What did this time mean for you and what is the working relationship like between you both?

It is very special to work, and it means a lot to me. It reminds me of when I was young myself. We push each other and inspire each other a lot. I can’t wait to see what the future brings for her. But I think it is very important to give her space to do it her way.

What is the inspiration behind the You and Me Collection?

It is a selection of handcrafted pieces conveying hope, trust, and fidelity. Faith in each other is a constant companion – even when you are not together. The biggest inspiration is celebrating love.

The collection holds a variety of different pieces.

How would you describe the Ole Lynggaard bride? Who do you envision when designing the You and Me pieces?

Every bride is different. It is all about finding a piece of jewellery that fits your personality. The most important thing is that you feel comfortable, special and like yourself

THE GROOM EXPERIENCE The wedding journey traditionally has been primarily focused on the bride, her vision and needs. Sydney based menswear brand BELANCĒ have created an experience just for the Groom and his Groomsmen. Offering him an exceptional moment to create his Made to Measure suit whilst enjoying the BELANCĒ in-store bar and finishing the experience with an intimate photoshoot to ensure he is ready for the big day.

Love Story Magazine sat down with BELANCĒ Co-Founder and Creative Director Oscar Leal to discuss the process and find out why everyone is talking about BELANCĒ.

How would you describe the Belancē aesthetic?

I believe our aesthetic combines refined classic and modern elements to create tailor made suits that are timeless and minimalist. Our designs are balanced and clean allowing the fabric texture and tone to take centre stage. In terms of fit, our garments are cut to allow movement with comfort in mind while still defining our clients silhouette and embracing their best features.

What does the BELANCĒ VIP Experience involve?

The BELANCĒ VIP Experience was created to really appreciate the Groom and give him the opportunity to have a moment in the wedding journey just for him.

In the initial consultation we invite the wedding couple together so that we can get a clear understanding of the wedding. We work with several bridal designers and boutiques so often will have a conversation with them to find out in confidence more about the bride’s gown, the style, fabric and colour so we can develop a look for the groom and groomsmen that will complement the bride and her bridesmaids.

We will often speak with the wedding planner also and then build a profile around the venue, the location, the season, the dress code, and the bridal choices of all our wedding clients.

We think it’s incredibly important that the groom and groomsmen are styled together so once we have a clear vision on the wedding theme we start working with the groom directly on his made to measure suit.

Over a preferred beverage of choice from our Belancē Bar, the groom and his groomsmen will be educated in fabric and custom design options and then will be meticulously measured by our Head Fitter where we also discuss other key details including accessories. We also

offer made to measure shoes for a complete Belancē look.

Garments are then made and hand finished by artisan tailors, to be presented to our clients for a fitting 1-2 months after our initial in store meeting. After fittings are complete, the Groom is offered an instore photo shoot while wearing his new suit as an additional special touch to show him how to pose in his suit to ensure the most magazine worthy images.

In our eyes, our function is to help create the perfect wedding photo for our clients. This doesn’t simply mean producing custom garments. To us, it means accounting for all aspects of the wedding and providing our grooms with the tools they need to be comfortable and confident on the day.

You’ve just launched the Spring/Summer Tailoring Collection.

Tell us more about it and what to expect?

Our 2024 Summer Tailoring Collection breathes new life into classic hues, deep blacks, pristine warm whites are enhanced with silver, blue steel and dusty salmon to create elevated summer looks suitable for Australian and international celebrations. In terms of fabrics, we play with the finest mohair, silk and linen from around the world, ensuring not only comfort but also the ultimate luxurious feel. This year we also debuted our new signature lapel, the ‘wave’ lapel. This design element introduces a casual sophistication to wedding outfits for the modern men that’s distinctly contemporary and feels effortlessly chic.

What does the future hold for Belancē?

We have been busy working on the launch of our first ever ready to wear collection which is very exciting for us and our brand. While this collection will have some tailoring, it will mostly showcase more casual designs inspired by the concept of an eternal holiday, the pieces are made with a selection of very rare hand-loomed silks, linens and cottons presenting a harmonious blend of craftsmanship and comfort. What is your love story?

Jess - We met studying music at JMC Academy where Matt was in the year above me. My friend was in his year and showed me him on Facebook a year before I went to JMC, so when I met him I already knew all about him after my little online stalk - of course he was beyond anything I could of imagined! We clicked immediately and we started talking everyday as soon as we exchanged numbers.

After graduating and being solo artists for so many years we started performing music together at pubs around Sydney. Our parents were so happy they could all watch us together, which became a weekend tradition!

In 2015 we decided to audition for The X Factor in the hope that we would get more exposure and more gigs - fast forward to the end of the series we became the runners up and were signed to Sony music.

Our debut self-titled album reached No. 1 on the Australian Album ARIA Charts and followed by our next album “Songs From The Village” featuring Chris Isaak & Rick Price which hit No. 2.

We spent a lot of time abroad in Nashville exploring our own original sound and delving deep into our relationship and past relationships. Now as independent recording artists, we released our first original album Wildflowers, an ultra-personal document to musical freedom and intense self-discovery. The record held #1

independent album for 2 weeks, which was beyond anything we could have hoped for with our debut original album!

How long have been together?

13 years together, 5 years married.

What are the most important factors to you in a successful and loving relationship?

The biggest thing to keep a loving relationship is communication. We have spent almost the entirety of our 13 years together on a 24/7 basis due to us working so closely together. When you are spending that much time with your partner the key is to realise that you will move with that person and their emotions throughout the day. You have to communicate that sometimes you are feeling on edge or have woken up on the wrong side of the bed and so we know when to be more understanding of where we are both at.

How have you kept your love alive?

Keep having date nights, don’t forget to relax together, laugh, drink wine, watch movies, go to the beach - whatever breaks you out of the everyday cycles of life!

Do you have any ‘rules or guides’ in your relationship?

We’ve recently discovered this amazing tip for relationships - together you and your partner make 100% but in reality a marriage is never energetically 50/50. When we wake up and start getting ready for the day, we tell each other the percentage we feel we’re at. Say I wake up and I’m feeling flat or overwhelmed, I will tell Matt that I’m running at about 30% and then he will tell me where he’s at… if he can’t fill the rest of the 70% for the day to replace what I’m missing, we discuss a little action plan on how to tackle the tasks of the day. It’s so effective because we know when to be more forgiving and to give more energy to the relationship to fill that gap.

This has definitely happened over the years and it’s very difficult to put on a smile because you don’t have time to discuss the problem in the moment. If this happens, we always chat post performance to flesh out the problem and resolve it before we go to bed.

You now perform at many weddings. Do you have any favourite wedding performances to share?

A few of our favourite weddings was performing at Matty J and Laura Byrne’s wedding in Mollymook. It was such a beautiful ceremony especially with their two gorgeous girls running up the aisle to their dad before Laura made her big entrance… it brought on the tears!

How does your relationship change between your home life and work life together?

You recently performed at numerous Destination weddings in Europe. Is that something you will do annually?

It’s definitely unique with us because we don’t work a scheduled 9-5pm work day, we are working throughout the whole day. This is particularly difficult because we really need to draw a line in the sand and say okay let’s clock off… we always look at each other with a cheeky smile and say “permission to relax?”.

We just returned from Europe playing some weddings and one of our favourites was in Italy overlooking the rolling hills of Tuscany. It was absolutely breathtaking and very surreal being able to perform in a place like that.

Have you ever argued and then had to ‘turn on the love between you’ to perform?

We are planning to travel back next year to do another wedding season, we want to do this as much as we can while we can, especially before bubs!

NATASHA Oakley and THEO Chambers It’s been a huge year for you with your breathtaking wedding in Capri. Did you always dream of having a Destination Wedding?

I never imagined I would have a huge wedding! I always thought I would elope or have an intimate celebration but our wedding celebrations in Capri really blew our already high expectations out the door. There really isn’t anything like having all your closest family and friend’s gathering from all over the world to celebrate your love with you – especially on a small island in the middle of the Mediterranean! I couldn’t imagine our wedding any other way now.

What was your vision for the wedding and guest experience?

How did you and Theo meet?

It all began in Capri when I ran into long-time friend of mine, Brittany Gallagher at La Fontelina beach club, I hadn’t seen her in years so we promised the next time I was back in Australia we would catch up.

That next time was when she introduced me to Theo at a bar in Sydney, she introduced him as her Greek friend that just had the craziest 30th birthday on the little island Kythira that his family was from in Greece. Over the next week, Theo won me over with his vivacious personality, dance moves and endless funny stories. I left for LA where I lived at the time and one month later and after many phone calls I was back in Sydney with Theo for Christmas - the rest is history!

What are the most important factors to you in a successful and loving relationship?

Supporting what each of us is passionate about both in our careers and in life in general. Theo and I are both big dreamers and doers and I think it’s really important to both of us that we never feel held back in any way, rather supported and cheered on by our other half. We are also big on creating our own reality in life and not letting outside influences negatively impact our happiness with one another. We are both so blessed in so many ways, our health, our careers, the people that we are surrounded by personally and at work - we try to focus on the positives as a couple, life’s too short not to!

We felt that the beauty of Capri really spoke for itself, so we just wanted the theme to be timeless and elegant. Theo and I were mostly focused on the location that each event was held at and all of the sounds, scents and sentiments of the day being about love. We chose two different floral arrangements for the ceremony and reception locations, one being more romantic and timeless and the other simple and fresh. We always associate Capri with sophisticated style, alfresco dining and long days spent by the sea so these were all elements we incorporated into the wedding day and the days surrounding.

We also of course wanted to make sure our guests were wined and dined! We curated beautiful menus for each event which ranged from family-style shared plates to fine-dining multiple courses.

Did you work with a Capri based planner?

Once we were engaged we dove straight in, both being passionate planners of everything in life. Contrary to most bride and grooms’

experiences with planning an overseas wedding, ours was such a positive and fun process. We designed every detail together down to tailored playlists for every moment of the wedding. Planning a destination wedding with one week of events was no easy task but luckily my team, specifically my assistant Marcelle worked tirelessly alongside us to make our vision come to life. We also worked with two lovely ladies who live in Capri – Maria and Fabrizia from Capri Moments.

It was wonderful to work with locals as planning a destination wedding, especially in another time zone, is difficult and

Maria and Fabrizia made the whole process so seamless. Our wedding planners and everyone involved in the process were such positive and delightful people, it really did all feel like a dream!

Do you have any tips or advice for our readers who are also planning a Destination Wedding?

Focus your wedding planning on your chosen destination’s natural beauty! Tailor your theme and decorations to complement the surroundings. Instead

of material mementos, prioritize creating memorable experiences for your guests, such as fireworks, live music performances, and delicious food in place of traditional wedding favours and extravagant decorations! We would also highly recommend choosing a local wedding planner, so you always have someone on the ground in the planning process.

What was the highlight of your wedding day?

The entire day was something out of a fairy tale and exceeded every expectation, filled with more love, laughter, tears and joy than we ever could have imagined. If I had to choose though, the most memorable moment for me was holding Theo during the fireworks whilst we all sang New York, New York at the top of our lungs. It was one of those moments where you look around and think I will never forget this feeling for the rest of my life, I have goosebumps just talking about it. Our friends and family brought so much love and energy to our special days; I am forever grateful.

How has your relationship changed since you became Mr & Mrs Chambers?

I think we both knew we had found the one and dreamt of growing old together but now we are family. We bought our first home together and are really looking at how we can work together to build a beautiful, harmonious and joyful life. We are two very independent people, but I feel now we’ve let our guard down to become dependent on one another which feels really special.

and our grandparents’ relationships. Both our parents share a blossoming marriage of over 40 years and are constant inspiration to our own relationship.

One last important factor that Michael taught me at the beginning of our love story, and is one I would strongly recommend – never go to bed without resolving an argument!

Your wedding is hands down one of the most magnificent we have ever seen. What was your vision?

How did you and Michael meet?

They say romance is all about timing, and in our love story this is absolutely true. Our worlds had been orbiting closely around each other for some time, waiting for the universe to finally bring us together. We both attended Bond University, a relatively small university located on the Gold Coast where most students seem to know each other. Our sliding doors moment finally happened for us on one debaucherous and fateful evening at a nightclub in Sydney when we were introduced by a mutual friend. We’ve been inseparable ever since, and that night we were fortunate to find not only a new best friend, but a lifelong soul mate.

Was it love at first sight?

Absolutely, as cliché as that sounds it really was love at first sight.

Although it did take some serious courting on both sides before our love story really began.

What are the most important factors to you in a successful and loving relationship?

For our relationship, one of the most important factors is our shared joie de vivre for life. We embody this by ensuring there’s never a dull moment in our day, no matter how big or small. We also share the same values and believe in living our lives to the fullest with respect, integrity and loyalty, not to mention an unwavering love for each other. There’s no other company I would want more than Michael’s and I know this is reciprocated as every moment that we physically can spend together; we make sure we do ensure that our lives and experiences are shared as much as possible.

A large foundation for the success of our relationship I believe also comes down to the role models we’ve both had from our parents

The shared vision for our wedding was creating a truly unforgettable experience for our guests! Both Michael and I have planned many events, and the one thing that our friends and family could not argue is we know organize a fun party together. At the end of the day, we wanted our wedding to be as fun as possible for guests and always wanted to keep them stimulated and surprised. This was something we collectively always kept front of our minds when planning.

We were also fortunate enough to secure a truly inimitable wedding venue, Villa Del Balbianello, which did a significant amount of the heavy lifting for us when it came to the design and theming of our wedding. We wanted our guests to embark on a memorable journey throughout the evening, experiencing the charm of different key locations across the estate. From the arrival to the ceremony, postceremony apertif, and reception, each moment was carefully curated to offer surprises, delightful beverages, and captivating entertainment.

Michael and I adore the great baroque and classical architecture of Italy, and truly wanted this to be the main styling feature of the night. Apart from styling the reception in the theming of a red carpet gala from the Italian Renaissance era, we had meticulously taken inspiration from a few key moments from our favourite films. One of our favourite movie scenes is from the Talented Mr. Ripley when Jude Law & Matt Damon take the microphone and sing Tu vuò fà l’americano in the jazz bar and wanted the band and dancefloor to feel like the same setting through the staging and lighting. Our MC, and Michael’s best friend James Linacre, had rehearsed the song for months leading up to the wedding and took the stage on the night to replicate the scene for which we both joined him half way through.

Our other favourite movie scene comes from Paolo Sorrentino’s The Great Beauty where the opening scene is a long and wild party scene T H E W E D D I N G S E R I E S | 41

with the music to Bob Sinclair’s A Far L’Amour. We had briefed the jazz band to merge with the DJ the Italian classic with Bob Sinclair’s remix to kick off the dance party as fireworks lit up the night sky over Lake Como.

How long was the planning process? Did you work with a Lake Como based planner?

Our wedding was originally set to take place in July 2020 only a day before Michael’s 30th birthday, but saw the wrath of COVID-19 result in the wedding being postponed twice and then finally come to fruition this year on our 10th anniversary. Because of this, the silver lining was that we had laid the foundations from the first round of planning which helped when it came to round three in the planning process. Over the

three years between it’s original date and our wedding in July of this year, there were quite a few ideas and concepts that we had evolved and wanted to bring to life which we hadn’t initially planned, and thankfully we had an incredible wedding planner, Angelica Pozzi, who was able to seamlessly execute our vision. Because Villa Del Balbianello is a public museum operated by the F.A.I we hadn’t quite anticipated the logistical challenge that came with choosing this location. The villa is accessible only via a small hiking trail or water transportation, and open to the public 6 days of the week requiring every single item to be bumped in and bumped out the same day. This required meticulous planning and coordination that we truly could not have executed without our planner.

What was the highlight of your three day event extravaganza?

This is almost impossible to pin down, as all three days were unforgettable for different reasons. However, if I think back at this moment, I have to say the moments that Michael and I shared together leading up until the ceremony were the most cherished. Contentious to some, Michael and I had decided to get ready together, arrive at Villa Del Balbianello together and finally walk down the aisle hand in hand.

These moments where we were able to just be in each other’s company are moments I will treasure forever – particularly on the boat prior to arriving. We were fortunate in that the Riva family, pioneers of the iconic Riva boats founded on the shores of Lake Como in 1771 were generous enough to lend us one of their most spectacular vessels, the Tritone and taxi us from the Grand Hotel Tremezzo to the wedding.

We spent close to an hour on the boat together calming each other’s

nerves and taking in the aura of the breathtaking landscape that is Lake Como before arriving to greet our guests at the Villa. You could feel the love and emotion radiating out of each and every guest and the buildup to this moment and seeing it finally come to life with my soul mate was truly an experience of a lifetime.

Is there anything you would have changed that could help future couples planning their Destination Wedding?

In all honestly, I wouldn’t change anything for the world. There are always going to be things that you feel that don’t go to plan but the best thing you can do if embrace every moment as it happens as best as you can and what happens happens.

Your three-daywedding celebrations were so breathtaking and utterly perfect on every level. What was your vision for your wedding?

We searched far and wide, across multiple states, for a wedding venue and ultimately came back to our favourite city in the world, which is also the city where we fell in love. It’s funny because we saw so many venues but ended up having the wedding up the street at 620 Loft and Garden and the Plaza. I first saw 620 Loft and Garden for a Monique Lhuillier show during Bridal Fashion Week 2021, right after we got engaged. I think it is so magical. It’s like this magical peaceful garden in the middle of a chaotic city that looks directly at Saks Fifth Ave. The

reception was at the Plaza in a room seldom used called The Edwardian Room. We wanted it to feel timeless and romantic. Laurie Aron sand Birch Events completely transformed the room and made it into the dreamiest space ever.In its transformed state, it felt like where Princess Diana grew up. There was attention to every detail, the tablecloth for the dinner tables matched the ceiling in the historic Oak Room Bar where we did the cocktail hour. I was inspired by Aerin Lauder’s tablescape from her wedding. It was super classic and I thought it was so cool how they shot it with flash. She is an icon. I am a big fan of hers.

How much involvement did your husband Dr Michael

Chiodo have in the planning and celebrations and how did you work as a couple to bring your vision to life?

Mike was very involved in supporting me and listening to all my ideas in the planning process. He was on all of the calls, and I bounced ideas off him constantly. I love all the details of the venues, decor, florals etc so that was my focus and our planner and designer were crucial in executing this. Mike was really interested in all of the food choices so I delegated that to him!

What was the most important element of the wedding to you personally?

From the very beginning the most important thing to Mike and I was to make sure our guests felt the love we have for one another and the presence of God. The ceremony was very emotional and special.

I walked down the aisle to my favourite Taylor Swift song, Daylight, Paris version, sung by our friend Maria Riordan. We wanted to write our own vows but we were so busy leading up to the wedding I didn’t write mine until the morning of the ceremony (sorry Mike, you married a procrastinator).One of our favourite parts of the ceremony was when our Pastor, Ron Carpenter, invited family and guests to come to the altar and lay hands on us while a gospel choir performed the Blessing by Kari Jobe and Elevation Worship. It was a really

spiritual and beautiful moment.

As a little girl did you dream of your wedding day and was the day everything you had ever imagined?

As a little girl growing up in Pittsburgh I never would have thought I would get married in the middle of New York City! This vision evolved over the course of our engagement, and we really wanted to give our families and out of town guests a full New York City experience which I think we were able to do!

How far in advance did you start planning your wedding and how did you decide on what suppliers and partners to work with?

Only 6 months! As of February we did not have a finalised date, a venue and I did not have a dress. We had a very short planning window, praise to Laurie Arons and Birch Event Design for working on such a tight timeline. There is something to be said for not having a lot of time! It limits your choices which can make some of the decisions easier.

What was your greatest learning throughout your wedding planning journey and Laurie Arons and Birch Event Design for there any advice you would give to other engaged couples?

Pick your dress and your venue early and then take some time to enjoy your engagement the rest can wait. Just don’t wait as long as I did and you will be fine!

It is often said there is a large ‘come down’ after the big day.

Did you experience this and how did you work through it?

We did but planning a wedding in 6 months is also A LOT so I think we were very ready to check that box.

Is there anything else you would love to share or any other tips from your wedding that would help our readers achieve their dream wedding?

Keep some surprise elements for the guests! Don’t share all the fun things that will come! These don’t need to be expensive surprises. We leaned into NYC a lot, for example, we used a double decker bus for some of the transportation which was cheaper than traditional shuttle vans. Lean in and use elements of the location to story tell.

Keep the personal touches that are special to you and your partner.

Mike and I also had someone each pull us aside at different time points to make personalised messages to each other so we will have that as a keepsake forever.
