Staff Spotlight: Courtney Halpin, Sloan Creek Intermediate School

Professional Background:

17th year in Education

Principal and Assistant Principal

District English Language Arts Coordinator for K-6th grade students

504 and Testing Coordinator

Taught 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade for 7 years

Educational Consultant and Trainer, Professional Development Content Author, and Reading Assessment Coach

Personal Highlights:

My husband and I met in high school and have been together for 23 years, and married for almost 15 years. We have two wonderful children that are in 5th grade at Sloan Creek and2nd grade at Hart Elementary.

I have a love of game shows and went to the Price is Right when I was 18 (and my friend was picked to be a contestant). My kids still roll their eyes when I turn on Wheel of Fortune.

We absolutely love to be outdoors. The beach is our absolute favorite but being in the mountains is a close second. We are so excited to be taking our kids skiing for the first time this year.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Drive student success by defining and leading the culture, expectations, and priorities of a campus in alignment with Lovejoy's graduate profile, district priorities and core values.

Building and maintaining positive relationships with students, parents, and staff members.

Collaboration, Connection, Community:

At Sloan Creek, we feel strongly that collaborating with our parents builds strong connections and opportunities for growth amongst our students. Creating new opportunities for parents, teachers, PTO, and community members to connect is a high priority on our campus. We are excited to celebrate:

New opportunities for parents to volunteer around the building and at Leopard Time.

The "Creek Coalition" (staff members from each content area and grade level) which provides voice and opportunities for staff to collaborate.

Staff Member "Kid Talks" which are a deep dive into how each student doing to ensure they are growing and thriving.

Our Sloan Creek PTO; they make incredible opportunities for our students and staff.

I feel incredibly grateful to be part of this community. I have experienced these connections personally as a family in the district and now professionally as the principal of Sloan Creek.
