One of my favorite things about leading Lovejoy ISD is supporting our students doing what they love. The past couple of weeks have been filled with opportunities to celebrate our students and the opportunities they have to grow and mature by engaging in their passions and interests. Our Lovejoy High School Cheerleaders earned the silver medal at the UIL 5A state spirit competition. It is a big deal to be the state runner-up and we are extremely proud of the squad and their dedicated coaches.
We had athletes from elementary to high school participate in Special Olympics bowling last week. They did an outstanding job of representing Lovejoy ISD and demonstrated courage and sportsmanship. A significant number of student volunteers supported our athletes throughout the competition. It was a special privilege to witness these peer relationships that exemplify caring, respect, and the power of human connection. There is no doubt that Lovejoy students are creating a better world.
We have an exciting weekend ahead. Lovejoy High School Theatre had a strong opening performance of the Addams Family musical last night and will have shows tonight and tomorrow. The Kordel Family cannot wait to enjoy the performance.
There is only ONE LOVEJOY and we are ALL LEOPARDS!Katie Kordel Superintendent

I love Lovejoy, the District is my community. In August of 2020, we were facing adversity due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and I sought and accepted an appointment to the school board to help find our way back to educating kids. I truly believe Lovejoy is a special place for our students, staff and families. Their success and sacrifices in terms of hard work toward their goals, whether inside or outside of the classroom, continues to amaze me and motivate me to support their efforts however we can.

LHS Theatre Presents: The Addams Family
The Lovejoy High School Theatre Program and Arts are delighted to invite our Lovejoy community to the musical of the year, Addams Family! The show premiered on January 19 and continues through Saturday, January 21, 2023 at 7 PM.
Come watch as this lovable, iconic, and macabre family of 7 comes to life on our stage. The Addams Family is a playful yet meaningful musical about love, family, acceptance, and most importantly, growing up. It will surely pull at your heartstrings while giving you a good chuckle at the clever, witty humor that’s expected from America’s Darkest family.
Due to thematic elements and marital humor, this show is best enjoyed by students in middle school and up. Addams Family will be at the Lovejoy High School Auditorium at Estates Parkway, Lucas, Texas.
Tickets are $10 for students, staff, and seniors and $15 for adults. They are on sale now at the Fine Arts online box office at: https://tinyurl.com/ADDAMSBoxOffice. Superintendent Kordel and The Addams Family cast hope to see you there!

Mock Caldecott at Puster Elementary
Students in Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade were introduced to the Caldecott Medal, which annually honors the most distinguished American artist of a picture book for children. Students learn about the different medals, the criteria used to choose a winner, and explore some of the books that might win for the year. Students also read and examined past winners of the medal. Students, with the help of their librarian, Mrs. Ariel Stewart, evaluated books to award a mock Caldecott Medal to one of their own favorite books!
How to Catch a Snowman
Fourth grade students at Puster Elementary took part in a STEM challenge this week. First, students read How to Catch a Snowman by Adam Wallace. They were then given the challenge of building a trap for a snowman! Students worked through the Design Process (Ask, Imagine, Plan, Create, Improve) to use different materials to create their trap. The students were given criteria: the trap must be enclosed on all sides, and the plan must include a way to lure the snowman into the trap. The results were CAPTIVATING!

Lovejoy Robotics Update
Lovejoy Robotics had a rockin' start to the New Year this past Saturday in Southlake by winning some great judged awards. Rookie team 1082M fought hard, went undefeated for all qualification matches, ended as semifinalists, and they logged their highest driver skills score. This was the furthest 1082M has made it in an elimination bracket all year. We are so proud of their growth and success so far!
Lovejoy also had success with 1082Y winning the Judges Award, 1082R winning the Innovate Award and 1082C winning the Design Award! These teams, along with 1082 E, K, P, and T who also competed at Southlake, all exemplify hard work, determination and the Lovejoy spirit we all love so much. Way to go teams!
