Contemporary Spirit in a Historic City
The Thompson San Antonio – Riverwalk brings luxury accommodations and elevated dining
Opened in February 2021, Thompson San Antonio – Riverwalk is a modern retreat soaring 20 stories above San Antonio’s celebrated River Walk—capturing the contemporary spirit of this historic Texas city. The hotel serves as a new gathering place in the city’s emerging Arts District, just steps from Tobin Center for the Performing Arts and a growing neighborhood of galleries. Thompson San Antonio encompasses the first 11 floors of a stunning mixeduse tower with luxury condos called The Arts Residences situated directly above.
Glittering city and Hill Country views are a hallmark of the 162 guest rooms, including 33 suites that feature striking contemporary furnishings, spa-inspired bathrooms and floor-to-ceiling views of the San Antonio skyline or Texas Hill Country. A signature restaurant from San Antonio celebrity chef and James Beard Award nominee Steve McHugh is joined by The Moon’s Daughters, an enchanting rooftop restaurant and bar inspired by the Greek goddess of the moon. The hotel features a stylish living room bar; a showstopping pool deck with a bar, luxury cabanas and music activations; a full-service spa featuring a sanctuary with secrets concept; and 10,000 square feet of unexpected indoor and outdoor space for meetings, events and celebrations.
LANDRACE – A SIGNATURE RESTAURANT
A landmark restaurant called Landrace from James Beard Award finalist Steve McHugh—known as San Antonio’s most celebrated chef—will mark one of the most anticipated restaurant openings in Texas in 2021. Landrace honors the pastoral beauty of foods that can be traced back to the land where they are naturally shepherded over time, with seasonal menus that celebrate regional Texas ingredients and heritage growers close to home. With a focus on heritage and place, McHugh collaborates with an extensive list of Texas heritage farmers and growers for ingredients ranging from quail eggs and cabrito to black garlic, edible flowers and Bloody Butcher corn. A collection of dishes is prepared on the coals courtesy of a beautiful Grillworks wood-fired grill. Located on the ground floor of the hotel with outdoor seating overlooking the River Walk, the 200seat restaurant offers a distinctly independent mood with a light color palette, soaring ceilings and walls of floor-to-ceiling windows. The setting evokes warm mid-century modernism with upholstered banquettes and chairs and custom-designed patterned screens in rose gold. A showstopping bar and a semi-open kitchen that showcases the Grillworks wood-fired grill also contribute to the ambiance. Landrace also offers two expansive private dining rooms, one of which features views of the River Walk.
THE MOON’S DAUGHTERS – A ROOFTOP RESTAURANT AND BAR
Floating high above the River Walk is The Moon’s Daughters, an enchanting indoor-outdoor rooftop restaurant and bar that dazzles from its 20th-story perch over the city. Inspired by the Greek goddess of the moon, the 300-seat restaurant and bar offer indoor-outdoor seating with twinkling city lights and all the magic of starry San Antonio nights. Here, some of the city’s best live music also elevates the mood.
A Mediterranean-inspired menu from Executive Chef Robert Cantu features flavorful dishes that conjure a sun-soaked holiday along the Aegean Sea. A compelling selection of small plates feature ingredients including charred and preserved lemon, local honey, roasted pistachios, local eggplant, fried mint and Marcona almonds. Entrées encompass meat and fish dishes as well as vegetarian Stuffed Leek Kebobs. Side dishes range from roasted local squash and mushrooms to labneh, artichoke hummus and marinated olives. The Moon’s Daughters is open for Happy Hour, Dinner and Late-Night dining.
