New Year’s Resolution:

Make Friends While Getting Fit

If you want to jump into a new fitness routine, why not make some new friends while you are at it? These two group fitness classes are the perfect chance to build muscle and friendships.

JOYRIDE CYCLING + FITNESS STUDIO

JoyRide Cycling + Fitness Studio is known for challenging cycle workouts and positive vibes— perfect for kicking off the new year! In studios located at Pearl near downtown and Alon in North San Antonio, instructors teach indoor cycling classes set to fun beats while promoting health, motivation and joy.

EnergyX Fitness

This month, JoyRide has partnered with Stay Healthy at Home (SH@H) to create a 28-day “New Year Best You Ultimate Joy Challenge.” For $299, participants receive a 28-day personalized nutrition program complete with meal plans, check-ins and mindset coaching from SH@H. In addition, everyone who signs up for the challenge and takes four JoyRide classes per week will be entered to win a 100-class pack to help keep the healthy habits going. To sign up, visit www. StayHealthyAtHomeProgram.com.

For riders looking to dip their toe into the stirrup, JoyRide will be hosting mini cycle classes every 30 minutes at San Antonio Magazine’s SWEAT SA event at La Cantera on Saturday, Jan. 8, from 9:00am to 1:00pm.

ENERGYX FITNESS

If you want to expand your crew, then become part of the XCrew at EnergyX Fitness. EnergyX is San Antonio’s first rowing-based group fitness class that uses a combination of exercises both on and off the rowing machine. While classes are challenging, they are also fun and communitydriven. EnergyX has locations on Broadway in Alamo Heights and at Hemisfair Park.

Classes at EnergyX Fitness include options like Powerow, LIT HIIT, Reps & Row and YogaX. They are designed to be high-intensity and low-impact to help you get maximum results in minimal time. With friendly coaches and a supportive community of rowers on your side, you are sure to make plenty of new friends along the way. Drop in for a class to try it out for as low as $15 or get one week of unlimited classes for $30.

New Year’s Resolution:

Recharge and Recenter

While workout classes can connect you to new people, they can also help you reconnect with yourself. Here are two class options for finding your Zen.

BLACK SWAN YOGA

Black Swan Yoga is a donation-based, 90-degree heated yoga studio with locations near Pearl and La Cantera. If you have never done yoga before, do not be intimidated. Black Swan is an approachable and affordable studio focused on making yoga accessible to everyone. While there is no minimum donation required, the suggested amount is $10-$20, and a $10 minimum is required to reserve a spot ahead of time. Come to this class with your mat, towel and bottle of water, though, because you will definitely break a sweat!

This month, Black Swan is hosting their annual 30-Day Challenge. Students who attend 30

Mokara Spa

Iron Cactus

classes in 30 days get a free month of yoga. What better way to kickstart your yoga (and selfdiscovery) journey?

SMART BARRE

Smart Barre is the place for all the ladies who want to reconnect with their bodies while working towards that ballerina figure. Smart Barre is a barre studio that offers unique classes based on the principles of ballet, yoga, pilates and strength training. These low-impact workouts create a challenging full-body experience that tones, strengthens and lengthens to get that dancer’s body while barely breaking a sweat. Smart Barre offers classes at their Alamo Heights, Alon and Leon Springs studios. Feel strong and confident as you relearn your body and cheer on your peers at this women-only workout.

Drop in for a barre class starting at only $10, and see what this loving workout can do for your body and outlook. Plus, the first class is free, so there are no excuses to back out of this one!

New Year’s Resolution:

Treat Yourself

Being healthy is about so much more than being fit. This year, resolve to treat yourself to these two relaxing experiences.

MOKARA SPA

Mokara Hotel & Spa offers first-class relaxation right on the River Walk. The 2021 Forbes Travel Guide named it the only “Four Star Spa’’ in San Antonio, and this world-class spa leaves no detail overlooked. Mokara Spa offers a complete menu of spa treatments and services guaranteed to restore the body and mind, including massage therapy, body treatments, facials, manicures, pedicures and hair care services. The 17,000-square-foot spa also features 18 private spa treatment rooms, private men’s and women’s sanctuary lounges and separate men’s and women’s facilities. You worked hard last year and earned this R&R!

IRON CACTUS

Yes, I am into fitness. Fittin’ this taco in my mouth! Workouts are great, but it is hard to compete with riverside tacos and margaritas. Iron Cactus is located just steps from the Mokara Hotel & Spa. It is one of the best award-winning Mexican restaurants in San Antonio and is one of the top 10 tequila bars in the country. Enjoy all of your classic TexMex favorites while sampling your way through over 100 tequilas. Treat yourself to stunning river views on the private patio and tasty treats, like the blood orange and strawberry margaritas, queso, tableside guac and lobster tacos!

Discover Timeless Hospitality at Hotel Valencia Riverwalk

Hotel Valencia Riverwalk is a 213-room luxury boutique hotel perfectly situated near fine dining, shopping and entertainment. Enjoy contemporary and stylish rooms and suites, superior amenities, fine dining in a chic setting and the utmost comfort during your stay on the scenic San Antonio River Walk. Whether you are on a leisure vacation, a romantic getaway or a business trip, Hotel Valencia Riverwalk offers an unforgettable experience.

In October 2021, Hotel Valencia Riverwalk earned the honors of being named the #1 hotel in San Antonio and the #15 hotel in Texas in the Condé Nast Traveler’s 2021 Readers’ Choice Awards.

The Hotel Valencia Riverwalk has earned its reputation as being the most sophisticated hotel in San Antonio by doing one thing very, very well: keeping its guests consistently indulged. The team at Hotel Valencia strives to make every aspect of your visit memorable — from relaxing in a beautifully appointed suite, to sipping a signature cocktail or glass of wine in one of the hotel’s bars, Dorrego’s and Naranja, or enjoying a meal at San Antonio’s only Argentinean-influenced restaurant, Dorrego’s.

Hotel Valencia Riverwalk’s design and décor concept provides an alluring blend of Spanish Colonial and Modern Mediterranean styles. The Spanish Colonial influence represents a nod to San Antonio’s Spanish Colonial heritage dating back to the time the Missions were built, while the Modern Mediterranean flair reflects the building’s Tuscan-style architecture and the hotel’s namesake, Valencia, Spain. Upon entering the hotel from the street, guests are greeted by a striking fountain under a dramatic staircase with custom wrought-iron railings and hand-stenciled tile risers. The stairs, as well as the elevators behind the water feature, lead to the second-floor lobby and public spaces of the hotel.

Do not let the phrase “boutique hotel” fool you; there is nothing flashy or ostentatious here. The skillfully trained and attentive staff are available to attend to guests’ every need. The hotel offers such amenities as 7,000 square feet of meeting space, wedding and event venues, catering in a refreshing open-air courtyard and in-room spa services.

DORREGO’S – AN ARGENTINEAN-INSPIRED DINING EXPERIENCE

Dorrego’s is named for the famed Plaza Dorrego, a popular public square located in the historic San Telmo neighborhood in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The restaurant draws its inspiration from the rich culinary heritage of Argentina. The innovative menu showcases fresh, local ingredients and an imaginative approach to steaks, seafood, fowl and more. The gastronomic influences drawn from Argentina’s Spanish, Italian and French heritage are evident in the menu’s selections.

The restaurant’s décor reflects the Spanish Colonial design and architectural heritage of Argentina, with a touch of Parisian bistro panache. It features Argentinean-style tile work and woods with dark metal accents.

Dorrego’s also features a popular restaurant bar and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week. After dinner service nightly, Dorrego’s offers an appealing small bites menu along with handcrafted cocktails, wine and beer. The restaurant also provides 24-hours-a-day room service for hotel guests.

Just outside Dorrego’s is the hotel’s elegant stone terrace showcasing gorgeous views of the River Walk lined with giant cypress trees. The tastefully furnished outdoor space provides an ideal backdrop for an evening of pleasure and relaxation.
