WHEN I BEGAN COMPOSING I DID NOT RECOGNIZE AT THE TIME WHERE THIS DEEP NEED TO DO SO CAME FROM. I KNEW THAT I WROTE MUSIC IN RESPONSE TO EVENTS IN MY LIFE, BUT I DID NOT REALIZE UNTIL JUST RECENTLY THAT THE PROCESS OF BECOMING A COMPOSER WAS ALSO THE CATALYST FOR GROWING INTO A NEW VERSION OF MYSELF. THESE SELECTED PIECES FROM THAT TIME PERIOD HIGHLIGHT MOMENTS OF THIS JOURNEY OF BECOMING. -JESSICA MEYER

Won’t you come and see loneliness? Just one leaf from the Kiri tree

Mogami River, yanking the burning sky into the sea

Sick on my journey, only my dreams will wander this desolate moor

Winter solitude in a world of one color the sound of wind

With plum blossom scent this sudden sun emerges along a mountain trail

A lightning gleam: into darkness travels a night heron’s scream

Grabbing at straws the strength to bear our parting

On the polished surface Of the divine glass, Chaste with flowers of snow

Lead my pony across this wide moor to where the cuckoo sings

Summer moon – clapping hands, I herald dawn

Taken in my hand it will vanish in hot tears autumn frost

Years end, all corners of this floating world, swept

Ring…Ring out… Ring out Wild Bells to Wild Sky! The flying cloud, the frosty light, the year is dying, dying in the night. Ring Out! the false the grief the want foul disease lust of gold
