From the General Manager
We are already a month into 2023, and we are looking at a great year
We are starting off with a very successful first quarter of the fiscal year with a positive net of $56,450 after depreciation, which is $32,000 over budget One big reason is, we had a great holiday banquet season Thank you George for your great work!

Hi everyone, my name is Travis Curran, your new Director of Tennis, Platform, and Pickleball I consider it a great honor to have been chosen for the position at LBC and I will do my best to make sure we will go above and beyond to meet the Members' expectations I am joined by an exceptional and well-qualified staff in Robbie Summers and Drew Edborg; two outstanding pickleball professionals, Kelly-Marie Bohnert and Stephen Pobst We are all excited for the New Year and will strive to give you the best tennis, paddle, and pickle experience you deserve
In my brief time at the Club, I have had the pleasure to meet many of the wonderful and dedicated members and I look forward to meeting many more in the coming weeks and months For those who have not met me, please allow me to give you a little background I lived and worked in the tennis industry in Louisville for several years before moving our family to Thailand to focus on their tennis career We traveled the world playing both junior and professional International Tennis Federation Events which culminated with the kids both earning Top 50 Junior rankings and playing in the Junior Grands Slams With the support and dedication of my beautiful wife, Jean, we were able to navigate the struggles and success of life on the tennis tour and were able to proudly send our two kids off to play college tennis. Our daughter, Mai, at the University of Georgia and our son, Tonmye, at the University of Florida. After a brief working and training stint at the legendary Van Der Meer Tennis Academy on Hilton Head Island, we found ourselves coming back to our friends in Louisville and being able to accept the position as your Director at LBC.
In 2023 we are looking forward to offering you the same great level of coaching on the tennis courts and introducing new and fun clinics, fast feeds, team practices, and events for both adult and junior members. We also plan on bringing back some of the most successful events from the past and making them even more exciting going forward. Look out for the Indoor Club Championships to be held February 17th and 18th. Our junior clinics, “Future Stars” for ages 7-10 and "Hot Shots" for ages 10-12, are still running strong in 2023 so make sure you get your young aspiring tennis players signed up each week Finally, at the end of January we introduced a couple of new adult clinics for the beginner and intermediate levels The beginner clinic, named “Shot of the Day” will offer a great chance to learn stroke technique and the tactical play that corresponds with that stroke We are also going to offer an adult intermediate clinic for 2 5-3 5 players who wish to improve their doubles and singles play Keep an eye out for the starting dates of those clinics, be ready to improve your game, and have a ton of fun
Kelly Marie Bohnert will continue to run many fun clinics, leagues, and pickleball events throughout the course of the year Starting in February, she will be providing a new beginner and intermediate pickleball clinic on Tuesdays and Thursdays respectively as well as a pickleball 101 clinic on Saturday before the weekly organized league play starts at 2pm Also, in March, look for announcements on the pickleball member/member event
Throughout the rest of the winter, we will be ramping up our platform tennis and getting members out playing as much as possible There are two heated and well-lit courts plus the patio and fire pit next to the playing area to relax and socialize after a session of intense play We will be incorporating some fun platform tennis events during the end of January, February, and March as well as holding weekly organized league play, until the weather turns warm On February 11th, we are having a Member/Member Paddle Tournament and we hope you will join us for some great fun and competition Keep an eye out for updates and get those paddles warmed up to play some Platform Tennis this winter
On behalf of Robbie, Drew, Kelly-Marie, Stephen, myself and the rest of the racquets and pro shop staff, we hope to see you on the courts this winter and have a ton of fun playing, teaching, and socializing We are going to have a great 2023 So, let’s get on the courts and play!
