John Kellner Republican Candidate for Colorado Attorney General in the November 2022 Election

by Bob Grand This past week the Women of Weld hosted a meet and greet at Ben’s Pizzeria in Hudson for Republican Candidate for Colorado Attorney General. John Kellner was introduced

by Weld County District Attorney Michael Rourke. Kellner holds the rank of Lt. Colonel in the United States Marines Reserves The well-attended event was treated to a very down to earth discussion about the basic issues in the world of law enforcement today. Kellner had kind words about his opponent Phil Wiser, who he described as a nice person but one who has no, that is zero, experience in trial prosecutor work in a court room. The attorney general is the chief law enforcement officer for the state of Colorado. Kellner’s message was clear and simple. Do you want a professor as your chief law enforcement officer or a vigorous prosecuting attorney? Kellner spoke for about forty-five minutes and quite frankly could have gone on for several hours. It was very down to earth where he detailed some of the issues coming out of the State house this year that did not appear to support the law abiding citizens but tended to be soft on the criminals, especially repeat offenders Something Kellner believes is a strong contributor for our increased crime rates. Wiggins Tigers Take Season Opener Over Brush, 27-7 Paul Dineen, Get The Picture Sports, LLC

The Brush Beetdiggers came close to winning it all last year. They were runner up to Eaton, 26-14, finishing with a 10-3 record. They’ll have some rebuilding to do this year. Last year’s team was topheavy with seniors: twelve of thirty-six.

Those seniors accounted for 82% of points scored, 100% of pass attempts and 52% of tackles.

In contrast, the Wiggins Tigers didn’t get as far last year, finishing 6-4 and losing their first playoff game. But, they’ll benefit from last-year’s underclassman-heavy roster, this year and likely beyond. Of 35 Ty Griffith shared quarterback duties with Nate on last year’s roster, four were seniors, Thyne for the Brush Beetdiggers at the Wiggins with eight juniors, seven sophomores and Tigers in August 26, 2022.

by Bob Grand Unaffiliated voters are becoming a force to be reckoned with, as was shown in the recent primary races. That is a good thing. In Colorado, our violent crime rate has rocketed off the charts. Do we feel safe going to our cities, particularly Denver?

Have our homeless rates gotten any better? Our governor has hired a consultant on homelessness. That is an answer that Democrats use, hire a consultant, or create a new committee, which produces good paying jobs for political supporters, but does it produce measurable improvements in the plights of the people that they are supposed to help?

First, it is important to vote. Your vote does matter, and it counts. You should vote at the local, county, state, and federal level for people you believe will best represent you. Not whether they are a Democrat or a Republican. The mess in Washington continues to grow worse in terms of spending more money and getting less accomplished. The swamp wins, continually. When will our elected officials get back to voting laws and not having unaccountable bureaucrats creating endless regulations to control every aspect of our lives? Do you really think 87,000 new IRS agents are truly there to help you? We need good leadership, not political hacks.

Think about that when you vote in November. Candidates need to present promising ideas and explain what they are going to do to make things better. Not party rhetoric, but good solid ideas. If they cannot verbalize that to your satisfaction, they do not deserve your vote. It is important to have the best leadership we can have. Think about that when you consider who to vote for, at all levels of government.

Letter to the Citizen’s of Keenesburg:

What is the proper scope and role of government? Our Founding Fathers believed that it should be limited in scope and the role of government, as is stated in the Preamble to the United States Constitution was to “establish Justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, and promote general Welfare.” This along with the Bill of Rights, created a country with freedoms and opportunities unlike any Aron & his wife, Colleen other country in the world.

Likewise, the Colorado State Constitution was modeled after the United States Constitution and completed in 1876. The preamble of which reads, ”We, the People of Colorado, with profound reverence for the Supreme Ruler of the Universe, in order to form a more independent and perfect government; establish justice’ insure tranquility; provide for the common defense; promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity.”

These documents established the framework by which the scope and role of government was well defined, and through the preamble the intentions made known to Country and State.

However, in modern days, the question of “What is the proper scope and role of government?” is never considered by the vast majority of elected officials at National, State, and even local levels. In the best-case scenario, asking themselves how they can “do good” but often not considering the costs or what is being sacrificed to complete their goal. Often, the act or policy is intended to help a specific group in favor of another or to encourage growth in a particular area. However, the greater impact and costs are often far more detrimental than the benefit gained.

In the worst case, an elected official is attracted to the allure of power and becomes easily corrupted and the question of helping their community or country is barely a consideration. This is most clearly the case at the national level with the well-known revolving door between Congress and the reported 12,000+ lobbyists as of 2021. Over the past 2 years particularly, we can all think of dozens of ways that nearly all levels of government have violated the Constitution through declaring emergency powers.

This was perhaps best highlighted when New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy was being interviewed by Tucker Carlson and was asked by what authority was he justified with his order prohibiting religious gatherings and arresting those who did not comply and was reminded that the Bill of Rights guarantees our right to peacefully assemble and practice our religion. Gov. Murphy, laughed and stated, “That’s above my pay grade” and “I wasn’t thinking of the Bill of Rights when we did this.”

Fortunately, we do not live in New Jersey. Unfortunately, our Governor has not been much better during his first four years. In my opinion, it is more important than ever to be involved at the local level to help guard against overreach from the heavily unbalanced State Legislature whose goals may not align with our values and priorities. These concerns, among other are what is motivating my decision to run for Mayor of Keenesburg.

Denver, CO — In case you missed it, George Will wrote a column in The Washington Post about the tightening Colorado Senate race and Republican Senate nominee, Joe O’Dea’s underdog background.

See the highlights below: “DENVER — Late on election night, the nation’s eyes might be on Colorado, with control of the U.S. Senate in 2023 hanging in the balance….

“O’Dea, 60, is challenging Sen. Michael Bennet, 57, a two-term Democratic incumbent. Their contest underscores their parties’ current profiles.

“Bennet’s father, whose family arrived on the Mayflower, was a diplomat, senior State Department official for presidents Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton, and — you will murmur ‘of course’ — president of National Public Radio. Bennet’s mother survived the Holocaust, as did her parents. Bennet himself attended Washington’s toney St. Albans School and moved to Colorado after Yale Law School and a stint at a premier Washington law firm (Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr). In Denver, he became wealthy working for billionaire investor Philip Anschutz, was appointed city schools superintendent, then in 2009 was appointed to complete the term of a senator who joined President Barack Obama’s Cabinet.

“O’Dea, a fourth-generation Coloradan married to the granddaughter of Mexican immigrants, was adopted at birth into a Denver police officer’s family. To help pay his Catholic-school tuition, O’Dea washed dishes at a pizza restaurant until he was promoted to kneading the dough, which required him to rise, like the dough, at 2:30 a.m. Impatient to start a business — installing attic fans in houses without air conditioning — from his basement, he left Colorado State University three credits short of graduation. His construction company now has 300 employees, 80 percent of them Hispanics, and specializes in large civil engineering projects. He has prospered enough to sink $2 million in his Senate campaign.

“But the crucial financial contribution to his political campaign was the perhaps $10 million that Democrats spent trying to manipulate voters into nominating one of O’Dea’s rivals in the Republican primary. Democrats spent that money on ads cynically attempting to help a fire-breathing ‘stop the steal’ state legislator who was at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. The Democratic-funded ads labeled him ‘too conservative for Colorado,’ hoping to kindle conservatives’ enthusiasm for him. And Democrats tried to wound O’Dea by praising him as a ‘moderate,’ an epithet among fans of the firebreather.

“The Democrats’ attempt to stampede conservatives into supporting a weak general-election candidate backfired. Colorado has open primaries, and unaffiliated voters, who are 45 percent of Colorado’s electorate, stampeded toward O’Dea. Now Democrats, having tried to stigmatize O’Dea as a moderate, must pivot to claiming he is MAGA extremist.

“O’Dea’s candidacy, in a purple state trending blue (Colorado has voted Republican in presidential politics only twice in this century’s six elections), tests many Coloradans’ often professed disdain for both parties. If voters embrace O’Dea’s temperate conservatism, they will encourage Republicans elsewhere to emulate his declaration of independence from their most recent presidential candidate’s whining about imagined 2020 grievances. So, Coloradans have the nation’s political healing in their hands.”

Follow up on Keenesburg Water Issues

by Cindy Baumgartner Follow up on the purchase of well No. 31558.FP from Blue Valley Farms LLC. The town has finally stated that no inspection was completed on the well before the purchase. I also believe that it would be of no interest for Blue Valley Farms LLC to have performed an inspection.

This is the reason for my concern, the town under a different mayor (three back) and the board purchased a raw water well in Roggen Co. with the intent to bring that water to town. Then a new mayor and board came on and we decided to have the well inspected before any decisions were made on constructing a pipe line to carry the water to town. What we found out was at that time the well would only supply enough water for maybe a couple houses and their lawns. Differently not enough water to move forward with a project.

This well purchase could have been avoided if only an inspection had been completed. What’s sad is that some of the same people involved with this purchase was involved with the newest purchase from Blue Valley Farms LLC. And it was still not important to require an inspection on well No.13558-FP. Time will tell if the 30 year CWCB loan for $2,121,000 at 2.7% interest will be a good investment or not. And is it possible that some of the remaining balance of $624,147 still on a CWCB loan was from the Roggen well?

The town uses CWW (Colorado Water Well) from Denver for their engineering needs and well repairs. I had a very nice visit with T. Dea. We agreed to disagree on some issues since he has only been involved with water this area since 2000. But his engineering beliefs are that the Fox Hill aquifer which the new well is in will have water for the next 40 years, but he has no crystal ball so time will tell.

Mr. Dea shared a report done by the state of Colorado on the Lost Creek Designated Ground Water Basin which are what our town wells are in. I would like to share their findings with you.

Lost Creek Designated Groundwater Basinwater Level Measurements 2020

This report contains basic data concerning the depth to and elevation of groundwater in the Lost Creek Designated Groundwater Basin collected in late-January/February 2020. As in previous reports, the accompanying data tables only list data from the last 10 measurements, though the hydrographs display the full period of record. Wells lacking measurements for the past 10 years have been removed from the monitoring program and are no longer included in the publication.

Acquisition and publication of this information is a cooperative effort between the well owners, Lost Creek Ground Water Management District (LCGWMD), and the Colorado Division of Water Resources. The project is part of a statewide groundwaterlevel monitoring program funded by Senate Bill 200 (1987 legislative session).

This legislation directed that a portion of the fees collected for water well permit applications be used for the establishment of a program to monitor water-level trends throughout the state.

The locations of the wells included in this report and the extent of the alluvial aquifer are shown on Figure 1. Previous work in the basin (Figure 2, Watterson and Topper, 2011) suggests that analysis of groundwater levels by sub-regions is appropriate. Water-level measurements are typically recorded in the winter or early spring of each year. Shorter- and longer-term changes in water levels are described using 1- and 5-year comparisons. The 2020 water levels produced the following general conclusions: North Area: North of Roggen/I-76 to Hwy 34 Depth to water generally ranges from 15 to 43 feet. Water levels were relatively stable between 2019 and 2020, decreasing by approximately 0.5 feet. Longer-term comparisons indicate an increase of approximately 0.3 feet over 5 years, and a decrease of 2.5 feet over 10 years.

Middle Area: Between Roggen/I-76 and Prospect Valley/Hwy 52 • Depth to water generally ranges from 12 to 63 feet. Water levels were generally unchanged between 2019 and 2020. Longer-term comparisons indicate an approximate increase of 0.3 feet over 5 years, and a decrease of 5.75 feet over 10 years.

South Area: South of Prospect Vallev/Hwy 52 to 144th Avenue • Depth to water generally ranges from 47 to 117 feet. Water levels decreased an average of 1.9 feet between 2019 and 2020. Longer-term comparisons indicate an increase of approximately 0.7 feet over 5 years, and a decrease of 3.6 feet over 10 years.

On average, groundwater levels in wells measured by the Division of Water Resources were relatively stable compared to 2019, with slight decreases in the North and South areas. The medium term, 5-year comparison, showed an average increase of approximately 0.4 feet. A water-table elevation map, produced for the 2011 Colorado Geological Survey aquifer recharge and storage study, is included to assist stakeholders in evaluating groundwater-flow directions (Figure 2).

With growing interest in Lost Creek alluvial aquifer as a potential area for aquifer recharge and storage, the LCGWMD, Colorado Geological Survey, U.S. Geological Survey, and cooperators have been evaluating the existing groundwater reservoir and additional storage opportunities within the basin. Publishers Comment:

Water and its availability are a complex subject in Colorado. Keenesburg is no exception. Ms. Baumgartner has raised some questions. We, as the tax paying citizens who foot the ultimate bill and actually drink the water, deserve to understand the story of our water, where we are at, how we got there and where we are going. In a small town there are personalities, some quite strong, there is history, there is even a reluctance, in some quarters, to lay out the full story. On top of those issues there is no clear science. The question of where our wastewater goes is always something that I have wondered about. Listening to the experts, the Lost Creek Aquafer is a non-replenishing source. If that is true where does our wastewater go? We produce slightly more than we consume because of runoff. Now I confess I have watched the Curse of Oak Island where the Lagina brothers have spent millions of dollars to track down an elusive treasure thought to be buried on Oak Island. In one episode they ran an approved dye additive down a test well to see where it came out. Maybe we need to look at working with the State to determine if a state approved dye could be mixed with our wastewater when discharged and we can try to determine where it comes up. There might be some surprised people.

I read through all 33 pages of the water report that Ms. Baumgartner referred to. A few of the wells showed a reduction in water levels but most did not. Our wastewater is going somewhere. It would not be funny if we find we have paid for buying our own water back, or worse allowing third parties to sell it to others. Water is a complex subject, requiring a lot of effort to examine and identify all the moving parts. It is easier to just pass the cost on to us, the taxpayers, and forget about it. But is that the right thing to do? I believe we deserve better.

Gillian K. Smith on Why She is Qualified for Weld County Council At Large Position

When someone announces they are seeking an elected position, I want to know what drives them and why they believe they are qualified to hold that office. As I am running for Weld County Council At-Large, I want to answer those questions for those that want to know this information about me.

One driver for me is the unique opportunity to serve in a capacity that is relatively rare in county government. In Colorado, there are only two Home Rule counties, Pitkin and Weld, per article XIV, section 16 of the Colorado Constitution. Pitkin does not have a County Council.

The Weld County Council was created by the Weld County Home Rule Charter which was adopted in 1976 and is charged to review all aspects of County government and report to the people. The Council is made up of five, nonpartisan members; one from each district and two at-large.

Additionally, the Council has five functions per the Weld County Home Rule Charter: 1) Setting salary levels for all elected officials.

2) Filling vacancies for the Board of Commissioners and County Council.

3) In the event of a valid recall petition or if an official is charged or indicted for a crime, the Council may suspend that official.

4) Reviewing conflicts of interest that may occur between any county officer, members or employees of appointed boards and any enterprise or business doing business with Weld County.

5) The Council considers requests from the board of County Commissioners to grant mill levy increases.

Over the years, my careers have always contained a component of process review and improvement. My first career was printing which included running presses, proofreading, and typesetting which are painstaking tasks that demand attention to detail. I also had a hand in the business side of things like calculating profits based on subscriptions and various types of advertising. It was the numbers side which later pointed me toward becoming an accountant.

As an accountant for over 25 years, I have a deep respect for how important accountability and fiscal responsibility is to any successful business, household, organization, or government entity. Over the years, I have helped my employers to improve their accounting processes and increase efficiency. In my current position, I reduced the paper consumption in my area by 95% and implemented several time and cost saving procedures. In 1995, I built an electric motor repair company from the ground up and ran it for over a decade. I understand what it takes to build, operate, and successfully manage a business. Having an awareness of these relationships is an excellent skill for a County Council member to have.

I believe in giving back to my community and being active in my life overall.

Recall Launched Against Sen. Kevin Priola; Freshly-minted Democrat Called ‘Unacceptable’ in New District

By Sherrie Peif DENVER — Just two days after State Sen. Kevin Priola, who until Dec. 31 represents most of Adams County in the current Senate District 25, announced he was switching his political affiliation from Republican to Democrat, two Weld County residents pulled a petition from the Secretary of State’s office to recall Priola once he is sworn in as the new representative of the heavily Republican Senate District 13 in January.

Priola’s move to the new senate seat, which includes a portion of southern Weld County, most of Greeley, and a smaller slice of Brighton in Adams County, is a result of the recently completed redistricting process.

Louisa Andersen and Jeff Sloan, both active members of the Weld County Republican Party said they never had a chance to vote for Priola as their representative, and they don’t believe the voters of Senate District 13 would have elected him had he ran for that office.

“The redistricting thing is a political mystery,” Andersen said. “Most voters don’t know how it’s affecting them and their votes.” Andersen added those who were aware of the situation with Priola taking over the senate seat by default haven’t been happy from the beginning.

“But we were willing to swallow hard and accept the fact that he may not have been our favorite and doesn’t support our Weld County values,” she said. “But now he leaves us no alternative to put up a Republican. We were denied representation entirely as Republicans of Weld County and especially Greeley.”

Senate District 13 representative by default Priola’s status as the new representative of Senate District 13 happened by default when the redistricting commission drew him out of Senate District 25. For the past eight years Senate District 13 has been represented by former Weld County Sheriff John Cooke, a Republican out of Greeley.

Cooke is term-limited, and his seat should have been up for election this November.

However, because the Colorado Constitution prohibits redistricting from drawing a sitting Senator out of office, and since Priola had two years left on his current term, he automatically became the new representative for Senate District 13, delaying a new election on that seat for two years.

But the letter “R” behind Cooke and Priola’s names is about the only thing the two had in common. While Cooke is known to hold strong conservative positions on such things as oil and gas, the Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights (TABOR), government spending, and law enforcement, Priola has made a career out of sponsoring and voting with the Democrats on myriad things including climate policy, new business regulations and numerous tax and fee increases — even openly supporting Proposition CC in 2019, which would have permanently ended taxpayer refunds of over-collected revenue under TABOR..

that forces manufacturers of packaging materials to fund a statewide recycling program. House Bill 22-1355 “Producer Responsibility Program for Recycling, requires “producers of products that are … packaging materials and paper products sold, offered for sale, or distributed in the state” to pay annual “producer responsibility dues.” Governor Polis signed the bill into law in June.

The dues fund a program to “implement and manage a statewide program (program) that provides recycling services to covered entities in the state, which are defined as residences, businesses, schools, government buildings, and public places.”

As previously reported by Complete Colorado, the bill negatively impacts numerous industries in Weld, which is heavily agricultural.

The bill caused Priola and outgoing Sen. Jerry Sonnenberg, a Republican from Sterling, to get into a heated argument on the Senate floor.

So, although his change to the Democrat party didn’t surprise many philosophically, it angered Cooke’s constituents in Weld County who say they never had the opportunity to vote for Cooke’s successor.

“Priola’s positions and voting record are totally out of touch with the people of Weld County,” Sloan said. “He is so unacceptable to most of the people of Senate District 13 that we just can’t wait another two years for the next election to take place. He is too dangerous as a Senator for this district. That’s why I decided to join my friend Louisa in giving the voters of District 13 an opportunity to elect someone that aligns more with their values.”

Recall effort backed Advance Colorado Action is supporting the recall. According to its website Advance Colorado Action is an issue advocacy organization that “believes in smaller, more accountable government. It supports policies that increase economic opportunity and greater government transparency.”

Advance Colorado Action is a subset of Advance Colorado, which is led by Fox31 Denver political analyst and longtime political activist Michael Fields as well as former 18th Judicial District DA and KNUS radio talk show host George Brauchler.

Fields, who will be the registered agent on the issue committee “Recall Priola” has previously served as executive director for Colorado Rising Action and the state director of Americans for Prosperity — Colorado.

Priola has five days to respond to the Secretary of State’s office with a statement to be included on the recall petition.

Fields said the committee needs to gather 18,291 valid signatures in 60 days following Priola’s response.

Secretary of State Jena Griswold, who Priola has endorsed for re-election since becoming a Democrat, then has 15 days to certify the petitions. If found insufficient, Recall Priola then has five days to cure any errors or insufficiencies. If found sufficient, Senate District 13 voters then have 15 days to protest the decision, but must give specific, valid grounds under the law.

Within five days of the petition being deemed sufficient, Griswold must set an election date between 30 and 60 days from the time of the sufficiency. That date would be within days of Priola being sworn in as the new Senate District 13 representative.

Fields told Complete Colorado the recall will focus on Priola’s legislative record, that proponents say does not represent the interests of voters in Senate District 13, including his sponsorship or support of: ▪ SB21-260, which increased the gas tax.

▪ HB19-1257, which would have permanently taken away TABOR refunds.

▪ HB21-1164, which raised property taxes.

▪ HB19-1263, which reduced fentanyl possession to a misdemeanor.

▪ SB18-040, which sought to create “safe” injection sites for drug users.

“Recalling Kevin Priola would be good for SD 13 and good for the State of Colorado.

His record at the Capitol has been terrible. He voted for higher fees and taxes, to take away our TABOR refund checks, for “safe” injection sites, and to decriminalize fentanyl,” Fields said. “Voters in SD 13 deserve to decide who they want to represent them. My guess is they’ll pick someone they can actually trust and who more closely reflects their views.”

Hello everyone! As school begins at Weld Central High School (WCHS), we welcome in our newest freshmen, and all returning students and faculty/staff. We also gladly welcome our new principal from Fort Morgan, Dr. Nicolas Ng. Principal Ng is a man of great character and global experience, and he is dedicated to help change our school culture for the better. School is starting to swing into full gear so, Principal Ng, threw a welcome back ceremony for the entire high school. This assembly was all about introducing himself and his goals for the new school year and getting students interested in new sports and clubs for the school. Principal Ng spoke about his main priorities for this year. “My top priority”, said Dr. Ng, “is your safety and well-being.”

Principal Ng helped us understand why we cannot wear hats, hoodies, and/or any coverings over the head and face in the classrooms and halls. You can always find Principal Ng active in the hallways, lunchroom, or main atrium. Principal Ng has made many improvements already that students of which find no fault whatsoever.

One improvement Principal Ng made was how the cafeteria better accommodates the overwhelming sea of students. Principal Ng has already become a constant friend to everyone at WCHS and is willing to meet with parents anytime, and willing to talk about anything with anyone. What I know of Principal Ng so far is that he is a very gregarious and friendly person. This year is starting to look a lot brighter already with him around!

Howdy, everyone!!! We sure enjoyed your company and want to thank everyone for your participation and generosity in supporting our 2nd Annual Western Day on August 14th at First Baptist Church in Keenesburg. This year we continued the tradition of handing out BBQ burgers, hotdogs, all the fix ’ins including lots of pies, cotton candy, huge bouncy house, and horseshoes. But this year we were blessed with two very special attractions that kicked it up a notch – a giant bouncy water slide and full-sized mechanical bull. There were many people who came for the food and fun as everyone enjoyed it all. Yet the greatest event all day was the amazing Christian fellowship with family, friends, and acquaintances from our wonderful community.

And the best part of all, there were only a few soreheads. The game began favorably for Brush, forcing a punt by Wiggins on the Tigers first possession on a three-and-out. The Beetdiggers then put together a seven play drive, culminating in a rushing touchdown

by Levi Cox and the PAT by Eric Rico. That would end the scoring by Brush.

After the first quarter had ended 7-0 in favor of Brush, Wiggins again could not produce a first down on their next possession and had to punt. That gave Brush good file position on the 50. However, the Beetdigger drive stalled and they also turned it over on downs.

The resulting Wiggins drive met a similar fate, with penalties contributing to a turnover on downs. But, Brush then promptly gave it right back with a fumble.

Wiggins quickly scored on a 15-yard TD pass from Cole Kerr to JR Meyer, with 6 minutes left in the first half. Omar Perez converted on the PAT to knot the score a 7-7 for the half.

With 6:31 left in the third Wiggins broke the tie on a 55-yard pass from Cole Kerr to Trey Fehseke. Perez converted for the 14-7 lead. Brush dropped from fourth to ninth in the 2A poll. The Beetdiggers next host the Fort Morgan Mustangs on Friday, September 2 at 7PM. Fort Morgan lost their first game, 13-10 to Conifer and placed #10 in the 3A, post-game-1 coaches poll.

The Wiggins Tigers Volleyball team extended their winning ways in a 3 sets to 0 victory over the Fleming Wildcats on Sept. 1 (27-25, 25-16, 25-19). That brought the Tigers’ record to 7-0 and dropped Fleming’s to 4-2. The Tigers have won 21 sets while losing only two. Fleming’s other loss was to Merino.

One key to this Tiger win occurred in set two. After a tight 27-25 first game, in which no team led by more than four points, Wiggins ran off eleven consecutive points.

That took the score from a 6-9 deficit to a

17-9 lead. They won that set 25-16.

Tyleigh Fehseke led Wiggins in kills with eleven. Talyn Mese led with four service aces followed by Payton Malone with three. Taelynn Epple blocked four kill attempts, Riley Hunt blocked three.The Tigers’ dig leader was Avery Burdette with twenty-one; also in double digits were Payton Malone with thirteen digs, Kennedy Kerr with eleven and Riley Hunt ten. Kennedy Kerr had 28 of the team’s 33 assists. Avery Burdette returned nineteen serves (with no errors).

For Fleming, Kally Kirkwood led in kills with eighteen, Ciana Lousberg assisted on eighteen and Brooke Schaefer returned twenty-three without error.

Wiggins continues to be #2 in the 2A coaches poll from preseason through weeks 1 and 2, behind Sedgwick County (Julesburg). The same remains true of Fleming (last year’s 1A state runner-up) in the 1A poll, behind Merino.

Wiggins next hosts Weldon Valley on Sept. 6th, then Haxton on Sept. 13. Three tests that they’ll face are at Platte Valley (ranked #3 in 3A) on Sept. 17, at Sedgwick County (last year’s 2A state champion) on Sept. 22 and Merino (last year’s 1A state champion) at home on Sept. 29.

Currently, I serve the County on the board for the Weld County Area Agency on Aging.

This has offered me unique insight as to what the needs of our aging population are and what that demographic looks like for Weld County. I also serve as President on the Board for a non-profit near my home called Happiness Through Horses.

This organization helps troubled youth to find more meaningful ways to deal with emotions using horses as guides. It is an amazing program where I have witnessed improvement in the lives of both youth and horses. In my personal life, I serve as President for the Republican Women of Weld. The opportunity to hear from and speak with various candidates greatly enhances my awareness for concerns in both our county and the state.

To summarize, I am driven by the uniqueness of the office which offers a good fit for my skill sets. I seek accountability in my profession and demand honesty and integrity from, and for others. I understand how important relationships are to business and organizational success. My track record is proven for process reviews and improvement based on my ability to review current processes, listen to those doing the work, and isolating where changes should be made. On August 25 the Annual Spaghetti Dinner fund raiser was held at the Fort Lupton Rec Center. It was a large turn out and sold out of food by 6:00 pm. This event represented over a decade of partnership in the community. 100% of the net proceeds goes to purchasing school supplies. For our local Weld-8 schools. Many thanks to our sponsors including Bank of Colorado, AIMS Community College, Basalite, and OXY Zero In as well as Wholly Stromboli and United Power as Community Sponsors.

Thanks to the Fort Lupton City website and the Fort Lupton RE8 website for providing content. The food was great, but the desserts were to die for! A big thanks to all the folks and organizations that make this event so successful. It does not happen by accident.

Weldon Valley’s Jayce Davis (62) rushed for 335 yards and four touchdowns in the August 26 game with the Hi-Plains Patriots at Weldona.

The Weldon Valley Warriors have an ambitious goal this season of winning five of their nine games this season. That would build on their 3-6 season last year, which was a significant improvement over their combined record of 4-23 in the four prior seasons. Such success would be a good sign for the next two or three years as the Warrior roster has one senior, one junior, three sophomores and six freshmen.

Weldon Valley got off to a good start when they hosted the Hi-Plains Patriots in their season opener on August 26, winning 37-16. Warrior scoring was led

by Edgarton, Ohio transfer, junior Jayce Davis. Davis scored four of the team’s six touchdowns while rushing for 335 yards.

Joseph Shaver scored on a fumble recovery.

Jayden Felts scored the other touchdown and gained 114 combined yards on eight carries plus three receptions. Felts led the team with 15 tackles, while freshman quarterback August Filter and sophomore Dane Johnston each had twelve.

For the Patriots, Shannon King was the primary offensive weapon. King drew the attention of Warriors coaches who assigned Blake Davis to shadow him.

The Patriots did not score again after King went down with a leg injury with 6:33 remaining in the game. Key players on both teams took their lumps, but only clean play and good sportsmanship were on display throughout. Stats were not available for Hi-Plains by deadline.

Weldon Valley’s next game is at Bethune on Friday, September 2 at 4PM. Their next home game is against Hanover on Saturday, September 9 at 11AM. Hi-Plains’ next game is at Otis on Friday, September 9 at 7:30PM. Their next home game is against Stratton on Friday, September 23 at 7:30PM.
