Keenesburg, Colorado Hit with Microburst on Friday, August 20th, 2021 at 3:30 A.M.

At three thirty on Friday morning, it sounded like two freight trains drag racing in town. Coupled with a good trenching of rain, well over an inch in a relatively short time, severe winds and hail, it was an exciting awakening. There were many fence casualties and I do not believe one trampoline survived in place in town. The new canopy at Market Street Mart as well as its new flagpole were casualties. Many trees were impacted, some like one of the big trees at the old bank building, were just ripped out of the ground. Too many tree limbs to count. Power was out until late morning. There was plenty of United Power workers but there were outages at many of the old street connections in the older parts of town. The town did a good job of cleanup with some outside help. There were shredded leaves all over town for a while. All in all, the town fared pretty well as most of the damage was cosmetic with no major casualties being reported. It does remind one how fragile we all are when mother nature cranks one up. Maybe we need to think about how we address the big , old, . dying trees that look so majestic, in an area not known for its tree growth and consider the downside when an event such as this happens. We were very fortunate. Next time? For more pictures see page 11...
