President’s Letter
Novemberhasarrivedanditlookslikethe newyearforLCGCisofftoagreatstart! Manyofourseasonalmembershave alreadyreturnedandactivityattheClub haspickedupsubstantially.Itiswonderful tobeconnectingwitholdfriendsand catchingup.Itisalsoatimetobemaking newfriendswithmembersthathave recentlyjoined.Iwouldencourage everyonetointroduceyourselvestonew folksyouseeattheClubandaskthemto joinyouinourongoingactivities.
Thefirstmajoreventofthenewyearwas theWelcomeBackPartywhichwassold outandtookplaceonNovember12th. Thiseventwasjustthestartofactivitiesfor thenewyearsokeepaneyeoutonyour emailsandthenoticespostedaroundthe Clubtotakeadvantageofallthe opportunitiestheHouseCommitteehas scheduled.
Inthegovernancearea,aSpecialMeeting ofthevotingmembersoftheClubhas beenscheduledonDecember6thto reviewandvoteontheproposedrevised Bylaws.ThedraftBylawswillbedistributed alongwithinstructionsfortheappointment ofaproxyformembersunabletoattend themeetinginperson.Iwouldencourage everyonetoreviewtherevisedBylaws, submitanycommentsorquestionstothe emailsiteforsuchand,ifpossible,attend themeeting.
Onthefinancefront,wehave beenrunningaheadofbudget throughSeptemberandthe preliminaryresultsindicatethat wewillhaveasurplusforthe yearendedOctober31.This putstheClubinagoodfinancial positionwhichwillallowitto continueinvestinginour operationsandourphysical plant.Wearesurroundedby evidenceofrecentinvestments andbelievetheClubisina betterconditionthanithasbeen inmanyayear. Enjoyingtheuniquechallengeseach shotbrings,creatingaplan,executing ontheplanandseeinghowitallturns out,thenacceptingtheoutcomeand startingtheprocessalloveragain. Inspiteofthemid-eveningdownpourthatsentouroutdoordinersscurryinginside, thisyear’sWelcomeBackParty—“DenimandDiamonds”wasadazzlingsuccess. AbigroundofapplausetotheHouseCommitteewhodesignedandthenexecuted thisfuneveningwithnotarippedpairofjeansinsight!CindySykesperformedher flowermagiconceagainwithourbeautifulcenterpiecesandJoanBillingsmustbe singledoutfordedicationoverandaboveinseeingthroughtheexecutionofan idea.
ChefNichenvisionedandthendesignedthatmagnificenticesculpture/containerfor thefabulousseafooddisplay.Thebutleredhorsd’oeuvreswerecreativeandso delicious!Fromtheglobalfoodstationswhichofferedsomethingforeverybodyto thescrumptiousdessertswehadarealfoodfest!Andtheband—suchafuntime washadbyallasevidencedbythepackeddancefloor!Almostdoneravingbut mustthankourwonderfulstaffunderEvan’sguidancewhoperformedsobeautifully. elcomebacktoallLostCitymembers!Itwasa busysummerforourGCMteam,butwecouldn’tbe happierabouttheresultsofallourefforts.Afewthings tonoteaswebeginour2022-2023season.You mightnoticesmalldeadspotsalongtheedgesofour greens.Wehavebeendabbingtheseareasofturfwith aselectiveherbicideallsummertopreventTifTuf encroachmentfromourcollarsontoourTifEagle greens.InsomeareastheTifEaglehasbouncedback andoutcompetedtheTifTufgivingusamorepure andconsistentputtingsurface.Therearesomeareas thatwillneedtobepluggedoutandreplacedusing freshTifEagleplugsfromournurserygreensobeon thelookoutforthatintheupcomingweeks.This processcoupledwiththeedgingofourgreensbiweeklyhasshowngreatsuccessinpreventingthese turfgrassesfromcrossingoverandcreating contaminationonourputtingsurfaces.
Overthenextfewweeksourteamwillbespreadingfreshpinestrawandinsome areasmulch.Thiswillenhancetheaestheticsofourgolfcoursesandinsomecases playability.Pleasenotethattheseareasofpinestrawwillstartoff“fluffy”andmighttake sometimetosettle.
Finally,wehaveincorporatedsomenativeplantsandgrassesintosomeofour “wastebunkers”morespecificallybetweenNorth1&9andSouth1&2.Wecertainly haveavarietyintheseareasandwhilesomematerialhasthrivedothershaveweakened. It’simportanttonotethatthisprojectisatesttrialforallofusatLostCity.Monitoring ournativeareasthroughthehotsummermonthsandhowtheyreacttoourwinterswill giveusabetterselectiontochoosefrominthefutureaswecontinuetoimproveother wastebunkersontheproperty.Youmighthavealsonoticedaslightchangetotheleft sideofSouth#1.Thiswasainhouseprojectthatwascompletedinhopesofimproving notonlytheaestheticsbutalsobetterplayingconditionsifyouhappentofindyourself overthere.Again,thisprojectisagreattesttrialfornotonlytheGCMteamwho maintainsitbutalsoforallgolferswhoenjoyourcourses.Wearehopefulthateveryone willenjoytheseimprovementsandareveryexcitedforthisupcomingseason!
