This is my first Newsletter as your President. Let me begin by expressing my appreciation and thanks to the members of the Board for their confidence and trust in electing me President after our Annual Meeting on February 15, 2021. The Meeting was well attended, given the postponement from the original date and continuing COVID-19 constraints with about 120 Members attending. I am happy to report the amendment to our By-Law to provide for staggered 3-year terms for Nominating Committee Members received unanimous approval from the voting Membership. We welcome Harlan Silversten to the Board and thank John Dowley for his service as a Board Member on behalf of the Board and Membership.
The Nominating Committee Chair is yet to be appointed. There are 3 vacancies on the Committee this year and I encourage anyone wishing to be considered for a position on the Committee to make themselves known to a Board Member or Leo McMahon, our GM. As stated by the outgoing Chair of this Committee, Jeannine Gourlie, “ A key function of the Committee is to identify and nurture a representative pipeline of qualified members who may be candidates for a position on the Board of Directors at a future date.” It is expected that a potential Board Member has Committee experience before being considered for the Board. The other retiring Nominating Committee Members are Cindy Crawford and Linda Reichenstein. On behalf of the Board and the Membership, I thank Jeannine, Cindy, and Linda for their dedication, hard work, and service to our Club.
It has been a very busy couple of weeks since the AGM. I have met individually with each Board Member to discuss Standing Committee assignments and their vision for the year ahead. At our Board meeting on February 23, 2021, we approved the remaining Officers of the Club who will serve until the next Annual Meeting. They are: Kathy Fernandes -Vice President Roger Rose - Secretary Don Greenhalgh – Treasurer The following appointments to Chair Standing Committees were also confirmed at the same meeting: Building & Real Estate – Jamie Haldenby Governance – Kathy Fernandes Finance & Insurance -Don Greenhalgh Golf-Roger Rose Green-Bob Koepka House & Entertainment – Carla Kutsher Membership – Paul Feick Strategic Planning – Harlan Silversten Bob Koepka will also serve as the second Board Member on the Finance & Insurance Committee as required by our By-Law.
I am also pleased to report that the Board has decided to allow the Clubhouse Bar to open for a “Happy Hour”
three days a week on a trial basis while the Club is otherwise closed during April. If attendance and sales prove to be positive, we will consider extending the trial to May. We anticipate that many of our seasonal members who would normally head north at the end of March will postpone their departure until the end of April or early May this year. . As you will see elsewhere in the Newsletter, Membership growth continues even as we come to the end of our golfing season. Six new members were admitted to membership at our Board meeting. Five more candidates were interviewed the day after the meeting. On or before April 1, 2021, we are increasing the Initiation fee to $7,500. In closing, on behalf of the Board, and the Membership, I would like to thank Kathy Fernandes for her devotion, dedication, friendship, and leadership as our President for the past two years. It has been a privilege to be mentored by her. Thank you Zecca for sharing Kathy with us. That being said, March is “Championship” month at Lost City Golf Club. Be sure to “ Play Like a Champion Today” and always. Keith Billings

Dear Members, The winter season has one month left and it is loaded with many fun club events. On behalf of the staff, we want to thank all of you for a great winter season. The Lost City Golf Club has had a tremendous winter season and you are the Lost City Golf Club. One of the staff’s Core Values is “Take Initiative and Be Proactive”. Have you seen the new staff hats our Outside Golf Service Team is now wearing? They look great and make a nice statement. Peter Bocci the Leader of the Outside Golf Operations Service Team selected the style. Thank you, Peter. Another “Take Initiative & Be Proactive” story. We have capital funds set aside to replace the fence around our golf course maintenance facility. Steve Yager came up with the idea to plant Calusa Palms around the facility instead of putting in a new fence. It will look way more attractive, create more security and it costs approximately 50% less than a new fence. (Calusa Palms can be found presently on the east side of our practice chipping green.) Thank you, Steve. Another Core Value is “Grow Skills and Knowledge Base”. Mihai has been studying Robert Sereci the General Manager of Medinah Country Club. Sereci was born and raised in Yugoslavia and came over to the USA in 1986. Thank you, Mihai, for your efforts to continually improve yourself which in turn helps our club.
General Manager’s Report “Be Accommodating and Helpful” is also one of our Core Values. One of our guests had some food allergies and could not eat many of the menu items one night during the Men’s Member-Guest. The Chef put together an incredible blackened grouper entree for the guest. The guest was very appreciative of the extra effort. Thank you, Chef Glenn. Jason Brown our Director of Golf reports rounds of golf to continue to be up over 20% from last year. The 12 new golf carts we recently brought in have helped alleviate our cart demand issue. Our Women’s and Men’s MemberGuest Tournaments were huge successes and thank you to all of the committee members, staff members, and most of all the participants. Saturday mornings are getting quite busy and our Golf Committee will be addressing that issue at their next meeting. A friendly reminder to those of you that smoke, please place your cigarette butts in the proper receptacles. Please be respectful of your fellow members that do not enjoy seeing and picking up YOUR cigarette butts.
A friendly reminder to those of you that need to use the restrooms while out on the course. We have three restrooms centrally located on each of our nines. You must use these restrooms. Our club is situated in the center of a residential community please be respectful of our neighbors and your fellow members. Friendly reminder, you must wear masks in and around the clubhouse. Please be respectful of your fellow members and our staff members. Best of luck to all in the Club Championship Tournaments taking place this month. Golf Course Superintendent Steve Yager and his team have done a phenomenal job this winter season. The greens have been great and the fairways have improved greatly overly last winter. All three nines were in top condition during our Member-Guest Week. We added more rakes in our bunkers to ensure you all can leave our bunkers in better shape than you found it for the next person. Extermination of grasses on all three nines was needed to ensure the grass we plant during the renovation will be pure TifTuf Bermuda. We do not want old Bermuda grass contaminating the new grass. The sooner we exterminate the old grass the faster we can plant the new grass when the course closes. The sooner we plant the new grass the better the turf quality will be on November 1, 2021.
General Manager’s Report Clubhouse Manager Mihai Ripanu reports MemberGuest Week was received extremely well by both members and guests. The food was outstanding, the service was personal and caring, the environment was safe. Chef Glenn and his team knocked it out of the park. Our Valentines Dinner went very well, with many compliments from those that attended. Mihai, Mike and Cassandra, and team members did a good job setting up for the club’s Annual Meeting. The event was outdoors this year and went very well. Trivia Night continues to be very competitive. If you have not attended and plan on coming to the March event, start studying now, the competition is fierce 😉 Charlie our dishwasher has been performing at an extremely high level and has become a leader in our kitchen. We have a new kitchen staff member, Sous Chef Terence. Terence has a friendly personality, a cando attitude and has had a big impact on our kitchen team already. Alex Perkins, our Building Maintenance Superintendent/Locker Room Man/Valet, and AllAround Good Guy have retired. Saturday, February 27th was Alex’s last day. I have been around hundreds of country clubs and no one polishes a pair of shoes better than Alex…. PERIOD!! Alex’s smiling face and upbeat attitude will be missed. Best of luck in retirement Alex!!
Alex-Bulletin: As I am writing this, Alex came into my
office and told me he fixed a patio chair, he is working until the final minute. There is famous military officer Colonel David Hackworth. When Colonel Hackworth saluted people under his command, he would state their unit name and they would respond “No (expletive deleted) Slack”. Alex and I had would say to each other “No (expletive deleted) Slack” whenever he completed a task. Membership Director Michal Dolan, Cassandra, and our entire staff have done a tremendous job over this past year resulting in our present prosperous position. The Lost City Golf Club is progressing. We want to be humbly confident but the future looks a lot brighter than it did a few years ago. As of this writing, we are still signing up new members for this Winter Season. Years ago, the club did a study and 425 golfers were mentioned as a cap. That was during a time when member demographics, membership categories, and member privileges were different than they are today. Our Membership Committee will be considering going to a waiting list at their next meeting. This is a new issue for the Membership Committee and it is an issue that they welcome. Thank you to everyone on the Membership Committee for taking the time to personally interview all of our new members and making them feel welcome.
Club Controller Ed Pass has returned for a second tour of duty at the Lost City Golf Club. Ed has quite a bit of experience with club’s going through the course and clubhouse renovations. This experience will be helpful as we move forward into the summer. Edwige, Kate, and our entire staff are glad you are have returned. Thank you to Mrs. Fernandes for serving as our Club President over the past two years. I can say personally, you worked as hard as possible to ensure our club would be successful. On behalf of the LCGC Staff, THANK YOU!!!! And best of luck to our new Club President Keith Billings. Enjoy every swing!!
Clean Out Your Lockers

Procedure to Get a Credit for Cart Fees During the Summer For Members Who Paid Trail Fee
Lost City Golf Club will reimburse $25.00 per round of golf per day if you are trail fee payer and if you play golf with our reciprocal Golf Clubs.
All receipts must be brought to the accounting office within 2 weeks after the round of golf was played. Email acceptable… Edwige@lostcityo glf.com
For Delray Dunes, The Little Club or Quail Ridge the receipts are not necessary since they send us a statement every month.
The reimburseme nt will not appear on your statement the same month the round of golf was played, since these reciprocal clubs send us an invoice the following month.
We are a month away from the beginning of the renovation. The prep work is going well. The contractors have been selected, and their contracts are being reviewed and signed. We have started the process of spraying out the tees and the rest of the rough with 9 hole closures each Thursday. The East was done Feb. 18th, the South will be done Feb. 25th. The North is scheduled for March 4th. We will continue that rotation every Thursday until April 1st, which is the Thursday before we close the courses down. We continue to work on finalizing all the details possible leading into the renovation. We all understand the inconvenience of this renovation to the courses, but also understand the enormous impact it will have for the future of Lost City Golf Club. Please remember to fill divots with green sand as our fairways are not being replaced and repair ball marks on the greens. Also, please discard cigarette and cigar butts properly. Sincerely, Steve Yager, Bob Koepka and Greens Committee

WHAT PORTION OF OUR COSTS WILL LCGC PAY FOR PLAY AT THE FINAL RECIPROCAL LIST?
WHAT IS THE SUMMER MEMBERSHIP ELIGIBILITY PROCESS?
SCENARIO #1
As you will remember, if you have either paid an Annual Trail Fee in 2020/2021 for your personal cart OR have paid for Unlimited Use of our club owned carts, you may, as a golf member, be eligible for the club to pay up to $2000 for a Summer Membership here in Florida. We are working to finalize the list of summer reciprocal clubs as we send this note.
If you currently pay a per round cart usage rate, you will simply pay the published reciprocal costs when you play either by credit card or direct billing to your LCGC account. Therefore, whether you join as a summer member or play individual rounds at multiple clubs, the charges are paid by you. SCENARIO #2 A. If you have paid 2020/2021 Annual Trail Fees for your cart or Unlimited Use of our club owned carts, LCGC will pay up to $25 per round for cart usage. These fees will be paid either through central billing between clubs or submission of a credit card receipt to our LCGC finance office. B. If you have paid the Annual Trail Fee or Unlimited Use fee and determine to join a single club as a Summer Member, LCGC will pay up to $2000 for that membership. Almost all clubs offer couples rates that are less than 2X the single rate. For example, if you and your full golf member spouse decide to join as a summer member couple at one of our reciprocals for $3000, as a Trail Fee payor, LCGC will pay this cost.
The eligibility process has three simple requirements: 1.) It is expected that any request from a member for the club to pay up to the $2000 for a Summer Membership is based upon the member’s expectation of playing 60 or more rounds during the period of April 4 to November 1st (30 weeks) which is approximately two rounds per week during our renovation closure. 2.) All requests and/or intentions for club payment of Summer Memberships must be submitted to the club on or before Monday, March 15. These requests should be sent to Leo McMahon, General Manager, and will be reviewed in a timely manner by golf and finance leadership. 3.) Approved summer membership payments will be “paid out” as a credit to members’ accounts versus a check.

Pub Night on March 3rd will feature Bocce and a Whiskey Tasting.
As we head into the home stretch of our most unusual season ever prior to the Club’s closing for renovation, we are most optimistic that when we reopen in November we will celebrate fifty years of Atlantis/Lost City Golf Club with gratitude and joy. Going out with a bang, we have a very full month of activity planned for March. Our dining schedule this month will remain as before. We will be open for lunch seven days a week along with breakfast on Saturday and Sunday featuring Brunch specials. Monday non-Mixer Dinners will continue as well as Wednesday Pub Night and Friday TGIF served buffet. This month, these “regular” dinners will have some special events in addition.
The following Wednesday, March 10 will be Outdoor Movie Night. This time the screen will be set up in the staging area next to Nine South green, moving closer to the Clubhouse for everyone’s convenience. Our movie will be “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood" starring Tom Hanks which got great reviews when it opened just as Covid became our reality. Monday, March 15th will be our St. Patrick's celebration featuring corned beef and cabbage along with Irish soda bread. And Friday, April 2nd menu will honor Good Friday with a seafood menu. Easter Brunch on April 4th will run from 11:30am to 3:00pm to close out this season. Lots of fun and good food in store so remember to make your reservations and come enjoy.
Starting Tuesday, April 6th we will offer takeout dinner service five nights a week, Tuesday through Saturday from 4 to 7pm. Three nights a week, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday during April and May, the bar will be open from 4 to 7pm as well with drinks only, no food service in April. And now for the REALLY EXCITING STUFF! “Dancing in the Dark,” our “Farewell Party” is scheduled for Saturday, March 20 from 6 to 10pm. It will be a totally outdoor event with hors d’oeuvres, a great three choice menu, live music and a theme carried out to the nth degree — so much so the House Committee is besides themselves with glee. Tables of four are suggested but there will be a limited number of sixes as well. Dress is Country Club Casual, Jackets suggested, NO denim. Make your reservations NOW — it will be a night not to be missed!
Men- No hats in the clubhouse Mask are required in the clubhouse, all dining areas, by the water and Ice machine, and in the staging area Shirts must be tucked in on the golf course Do not throw cigarette butts on the ground.

FINANCE January 31 marks the end of the first quarter of the fiscal year for the Club and there is nothing but good news to report. Thanks to the increase in membership, annual dues and Welcome Member fees, we are running well ahead of budget year-to-date. In addition, due to the increase in membership and the fact that members are playing more rounds, cart fees are also ahead of budget. As a result, the Club has generated a small operating surplus through January 31 versus a budgeted loss for the first three months of the year. This puts the Club in great shape heading into the second quarter, which is usually the period of highest profitability. Since the Club will be closing down on April 4th for the renovation of the golf course and the men’s locker room and Pro Shop, we will lose a month of operating surplus so the quarter will not be as strong as usual. The annual budget reflects the impact of the shut down in the beginning of April so this is not unexpected. With the carryover benefit from the Cares Act received last year, along with the strong operating results for this year, the Club should be able to cover the losses expected to be incurred during the shutdown. Given the increase in membership, the activity level at the Club remains high despite the limited use of our indoor facilities. The outdoor dining has been successful and members are enjoying these previously underutilized areas.
Also, as a result of the increase in membership, the Membership Committee has recommended and the Board has approved the Initiation Fee for new golf members being increased to $7,500. In addition, the Board has approved increasing the Initiation Fee to $15,000 for golf members joining after November 1st when our new facilities open for operations. Initiation Fees go directly into capital and this will position the Club to continue to invest in and improve our facilities. There is a great deal to be done between now and November 1st, but there is also an exciting future to be planned for and these additional revenues will support those efforts. It will certainly be interesting to see “What’s Next?”, especially when we get done with the renovations! Don Greenhalgh, Treasurer
Atlantis Literary Society will be meeting on March 17, 2021 at 9:30am at Lost City Golf Club. We will meet outside, under the awning, outside of the main dining room. We will be discussing two books – The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek by Kim Michelle Richardson, and The Giver of Stars by JoJo Myers. They are similar in theme and timing. Please feel free to read either book, or both books, as both will be discussed. An individual continental breakfast will be available. The cost is $10 per person. All Lost City members will have this amount charged to their club account. Please RSVP to Martha Greenhalgh at 617-947-2713 or mgreen144@aol.com. This will be the last meeting for this season ; we all look forward to meeting again in November of 2021. The book list for next season will be available toward the end of the summer. Enjoy a summer of reading, health and hopefully, vaccines for all and something that used to be normal. We are very grateful for the wonderful support this season for the Literary Society.

Golf Shop News The Golf Course continues to beat round counts every month. With a cold and damp start to February, rounds were still higher than previous years. Modifications were made to successfully host both our Women’s and Men’s Member-Guest events this February. Temperature checks were done daily, dining was all set outdoors, and the sold-out men’s event was run with tee times rather than shotgun starts. We will continue to have an active golf schedule through March with the course having its last day of play April 4th before closing for renovation. Upcoming events include the WGA Diamond Event, Tuesday, March 9th, Men’s Senior Championship March 10th and 17th, Women’s Club Championship March 11th thru 20th, Men’s Club Championship March 13th thru 21st, Championship Shoot Out March 21st, and 9 Hole Ladies’ Member-Guest March 23rd. We have adopted two new local rules for these events and should be used for daily play as well: 1. In the General Area, a ball may be lifted, cleaned, and placed, without penalty, with six inches to the spot where it lay but no nearer the hole. Exception: A player may not take relief if the ball is in sand in area that is not closely-mown. 2. In a bunker, if a ball comes to rest in a footprint, a ball may be lifted, cleaned, and placed, without penalty, with six inches to the spot where it lay but no nearer the hole. We continue to work daily on a comprehensive Reciprocal List for play once the course is closed. As details are solidified in the days to come, a procedure letter and list will be provided to the membership.
