Happenings August 2020

President’s message Greetings to everyone near and far! I hope everyone is enjoying wonderful summer weather wherever you are, along with some time with family and friends when possible. I continue to hear great reviews regarding the condition of our course! Between tree removal and the recent fertilization program along with our Florida sun and rain, the course has responded and is offering great play! Our Board met once again in July and our time was focused on current events and our plan as we enter yet another fiscal year. We are all dismayed by the lengthening ground war against this virus, and its impact on our families, community, and way of life. Although we anticipate a return to normal, it would appear that we can only count on a new normal, and given that, we will adapt, adjust, and persevere. Within the constraints of regulations, budget reductions, and staffing issues, Leo McMahon and his team have been performing beyond expectations. They have been careful, consistent, and creative! They have continued to operate within budget and continue to brainstorm ideas for events to enjoy despite current restrictions. Thank you to Leo and all of his staff for your commitment and dedication to the Lost City Golf Club!

GM REPORT Dear Lost City Golf Club Members, We hope you and your family and friends are healthy. On behalf of the entire Lost City Golf Club Staff, we pledge to remain strong, compassionate, kind, and upbeat until COVID 19 is a distant memory. Many of you have been asking about our staff members and we appreciate that. We are doing our best to take care of all of our staff members. The summer is our offseason and we are doing our best to help everyone as much as we can. We had one staff member on our Food & Beverage Team test positive for COVID 19 along with one member of our Golf Course Maintenance Team. We followed all mandated protocols to keep all club members and staff members safe and healthy. At this writing all of our club members and staff members are healthy!! Good News!!!

Golf Course Maintenance-Steve Yager-Golf Course Superintendent

The course has received several fertilizer applications over the past two months. As always, our greens are smooth and fast. Our fairways look tremendous. We removed over 20 Ficus trees on our golf course. We will be root pruning oak trees shortly to prepare them for relocation into areas where some of the Ficus trees were removed.

Golf Operations-Jason Brown-Director of Golf

It is great to see our Wednesday Men’s Skins Game going strong throughout the summer months. (Via the grapevine we heard Jason Brown made a 2 on 4 South. The hole was playing 210 yards that day. Great birdie Jason and congratulations on the skin) Friday has turned into our busiest day of the week with numbers consistently ranging between 100 and 130 players. Independence Day and the Beefsteak MemberMember were well received and a good time was had by all.

Food & Beverage-Mihai Ripanu-Clubhouse Manager

Father’s Day, Independence Day, and Beefsteak Member-Member events were extremely well received. (Be on the lookout for information regarding our Annual Lobster Member-Member Dinner which will be held on Saturday, August 22 this year.) Mihai was on a very well-deserved two-week vacation with his wife and children.

Membership& Marketing-Michael DolanMembership & Marketing Director

We have 72 active Summer Members enjoying our club this summer. We are monitoring international travel restrictions and health insurance issues very closely.

Accounting-Christine Rigg-Controller

From an operational standpoint, the club broke even for May & June due to great work by all department heads and their teams. Our goal is to breakeven for the August, September, and October.

Building Maintenance-Alex Perkins-Building Superintendent

After much back and forth with the manufacturer our water & ice machine on 7 East is working again. (We encourage all members and guests to purchase logoed thermos containers from our golf shop) Reinforced traction pads on all walkway ramps on the west side of the clubhouse. In closing, big thank you to the Lost City Golf Club Staff and you the Lost City Golf Club Membership. We are going through times that none of us have experienced before. During challenging times it is reassuring to know that friends and family are there and always willing to help. Enjoy every swing and stay healthy.

Leo McMahon General Manager Lost City Golf Club.

House Report Firstly, I want to thank the Members and Staff for their continuous support. We are experiencing interesting times and situations and I am very grateful to be here at our club surrounded by people that care about each other. I am happy to see our full-time staff coming back to work and I am happy to say we are all healthy and safe. Keeping you up to date, I am pleased to report that in the midst of our operating challenges, we succeeded in updating and installing some new equipment in the kitchen including a new grill, a new flat-top griddle, and a mini Pizza Oven. Our Independence Day Celebration had a great turnout with about 75 attending our cookout as well as Dinner service and constant take out/curbside pickup. The Beefsteak Dinner on July 25th was another success with over 50 people attending a great Surf and Turf Dinner presented by Chef Glenn and our staff. For August, we are planning on keeping the same schedule, open for lunch six days a week (closed on Thursdays), and two nights a week for dinner (Wednesday and Friday). On Sundays, we will be featuring brunch specials like bottomless Bloody Marys and Mimosas, Eggs Benedict and Belgian Waffles. The highlight for the month will be our Lobster Member-Member so please make plans to bring your family and friends to join us. Safety has always been our top priority, and we are pleased that the majority of our precautions and safeguards have been very successful in limiting our club's exposure to COVID19. Thank you for your support and cooperation in these difficult times and always. Wishing you a very safe, healthy, and happy rest of the summer. Mihai Ripanu

finance Report Financial Status of Your Club-July 2020

The Club continued to see several successes in June including completion of the planned tree removals for this summer, the sign up of additional Summer members, continuation of the fertilizer program for the golf course, and achieving breakeven operating results for the month. This is the second straight month of breakeven operations resulting from the steps implemented in the face of the coronavirus. Kudos to Leo and the Department Heads for their efforts in maintaining the service levels for our members on a financially responsible basis. Activity levels at the Club continue to expand with the additional Summer members as well as with our year-round membership. The golf course usage is running at or above budget and prior-year levels as a result of the excellent course conditions and the safety enhancements for our golf carts. The goal continues to be operating at a breakeven level for the remainder of our fiscal year. Also, the Departments heads are preparing their budgets for 20202021 under the assumption of full operations through March 31, 2021, and closure for April 1 to October 31, 2021, to allow for the renovation of the golf course, locker room, and Pro Shop. Once these departmental budgets are completed, they will be compiled into an overall budget to guide management and Board decisions regarding membership operating and capital dues for next year. Despite the disruptions caused by the coronavirus, the day-to-day functions of the Club continue as well as the planning for next year and beyond. The Club remains in a stable financial position and we will continue to keep you advised of the operating results through these trying times.

Don Greenhalgh, Treasurer

Paying gross and net skins for 9 holes each Wednesday. The entry fee is $20 cash each week ($10 gross, $10 net) and you can play any time of day on the designated course. Brightly Colored Cart Stickers will arrive soon for those of you who have private carts to use on the course. These stickers will be placed on the front roof of the cart for easy identification. This will aid both employees and other members in being able to identify what carts are allowed on the property and which are not. COVID RULES ARE FOR EVERYONE Golf Reservations By PB County ordinance, we are required to have reserved golf times. Reserved golf times helps maintain proper social distancing. Please reserve your golf times two days in advance by emailing the Golf Shop at lostcitygolftimes@gmail.com. If you cannot reserve your tee times two days in advance, please call the Golf Shop at 561-966-7626. While the sheet may look open, there are times held for CROSS OVER from another 9’s. Please do not think the course is wide open and you do not need to make a reservation. Cart Dividers We use cart dividers to ensure we have enough carts for all our players. Please help your fellow members and take carts with dividers whenever possible. By PB County ordinance, you can use the same cart without the divider if you both wear masks or without masks if you are from the same household. Another healthy option is to walk and use one of the Club’s pushcarts.

All members will be receiving our annual letter of commitment in August. The commitment letter allows you to share your intentions regarding membership for the coming year. Response to this letter allows our finance committee and accounting department the necessary information to budget properly for the coming year.
