PUBLISHER’S LETTER
An App for the LP Industry
You’re not busy or anything, are you? November and December is when most LP professionals kick back, put their feet up, and wish for more to do, right? Yeah, right.
I’ve been associated with the loss prevention industry for over twenty years. One of the first things I noticed about the people I met in LP was how much they worked. A 40-hour work week was a joke, and the further up the ladder you looked, the longer the hours. And that’s in “normal” months, which, of course, there are no “normal” months in loss prevention. But November, December, and January could be termed “hyper-months.”
Here at the magazine we hope to provide you with a variety of ways to stay informed with what’s going on in the industry in the most convenient ways possible. We already send electronic newsletters twice weekly. We also produce a digital edition of our print magazine. And, of course, we have the print magazine for those times you can relax at home or on the plane and spend time with the paper-and-ink edition. Now we have launched our first smartphone app to deliver timely news and information as important things happen in the industry. LP Magazine app 1.0 is currently available for iPhones in the App Store in iTunes. Very shortly, perhaps even as you read this, an Adroid app will be available for the rest of you.
This first version of the app features top news items, ORC and technology updates, as well as text versions of the feature articles from the print magazine. Coming in 2014 in updated versions of the app, we plan to add additional content, like our EyeOnLP videos and podcasts of some of our major articles that you can view or listen to on your commute or driving between stores.
We’re also working on an app for iPads and tablet PCs where viewing our digital edition with all the graphics and photos from our print magazine is at your fingertips.
We may not be able to reduce your busy work load, but we hope we can offer you a convenient way to read the magazine and stay up-to-date on what’s happening in the world of LP. Please download the iPhone app today and try it out. Let us know what you think. And watch for the new updates and new versions coming soon.
LP Magazine EU Update
In the September-October edition of this column, I announced the launching of a European version of the magazine. In fact, the inaugural edition of V1 LP Magazine EU rolled off the presses in November with MAGAZINE quite a collection of editorial written by and about SHOPLIFTING SCAMS AND DESIGNING OUTCRIME companies and personalities “across the pond.”
If you have peers LPPORTAL.EU operating in Europe, let them know to be on the lookout for it. We will also be distributing 1,000 copies of this first issue of the EU magazine in January to senior LP executives in the U.S. and Canada.
For more information about LP Magazine EU, contact the managing editor, Louise Henham, at louise.henham@orismedia.eu.
In the meantime, try to relax and enjoy the holidays…if that’s possible.
