CAMPFIRE SPARKS LUTHERANS OUTDOORS APPEAL UPDATE
SUCCESS AT ASCENSION LUTHERAN! What a wonderful life-giving response!!!
On the evening of April 20, 2021, the council of Ascension Lutheran in Brookings took a bold step and decided on a congregational goal of $30,000 for the Lutherans Outdoors
Campfires Burning Appeal.

Not knowing if this goal was too high, or too low, the leadership
of Ascension was committed to being successful.
They followed the plan suggested to them by making the first step: find a champion for the congregation. That champion is Dick Shane. Dick, along with Senior Pastor Steve Palo and congregation President Darcie Bien, led the response during three Sundays in June. The first Sunday they showed the Appeal video and conducted a temple talk from Darcie. Dick offered a temple talk on the second Sunday. And on the third Sunday, congregational members were asked to consider a gift and they filled out gift/pledge cards during the service. Bulletin Inserts and Congregation Brochures were used each Sunday.
Ascension continues to pursue a successful congregational response to the Appeal receiving an incredible amount of nearly $60,000 in gifts and pledges as of September 1st!

The Response has been tremendous! As Lutherans Outdoors moves into the last quarter of the
Keep the Campfires Burning Appeal
timeframe, we have received a tremendous response so far from faithful supporters of the ministry. Lutherans Outdoors has received over $700,000 in gifts and pledges towards the goal of $ 1.2 million. These gifts have come from hundreds of individual donors as well as congregational gifts, Synod gifts, campership gifts, special events and memorials.

was created to aid in the financial challenges from the
Covid-19 pandemic. Reaching our goal of $ 1.2 million in gifts during 2021 will result in moving forward in 2022 without debt and enable LO to continue offering quality, life-giving programs and to make needed improvements to our facilities.
