Z residence DUBLIN, CA LIFONIRA The Z Residence design addressed the client’s request of having “outdoor rooms”. The planting design is used to create series of rooms accordingly to the extensions of the house. A large number of plants is used to blend the rooms seamlessly to each other.

From the entrance, the gazebo directs the view to the sunken fire pit area which can be accessed through the pathway connected to the outdoor dining and bar. The water wall was placed as the central feature of the garden with vines on the back intended to grow on the fence. The sound of the water, together with dappled sunlight under the olive trees, adds to the calming ambiance of the residential garden.

As this is a family garden, the design needs to be more child-friendly. The existing play area is connected next to the outdoor lounging area and surrounded by soft, seasonal underplantings. An orange tree was placed next to the outdoor dining area. A vegetable garden was also introduced and placed on the side yard together with the garden shed.

D residence los a ngele s, CA LIFONIRA The landscape design of D Residence is about framing the view. The project has a limited budget but the design maximized the existing plants and terrain of the backyard.

The design wants to achieve a modern Mediterranean mood. The wooden retaining walls were chosen to complement the existing colors of the brick fence. The gray color of the furniture acts as an interesting contrast for the lounging space, and the pool. Cream and white colors for the paving compliments this dark color.

The retaining wall terrace served as a clean, modern architectural view for the house. The existing brick wall provides a great backdrop for the plants. Xerophytes and bushes as a whole add a soft layer to the retaining walls, but the shape and texture of the plants themselves are bold and dramatic.

L Front Yard los a ngele s, CA LIFONIRA

For this front yard, the client specifically requested a design that will create an impact and a real sense of style.The house is intended to be listed on Airbnb, thus, the yard needs to be remarkable.

This project works on the planting design and is required to maintain all the hardscape materials existing. Since the property will be for rental purposes, all plants introduced are low-maintenance plants. The agaves require minimal water, so they are a practical solution as it would have been difficult to install an automatic irrigation system in this location.

The two tall Yucca gloriosa had to be practical as well as interesting to look at, as it is adjacent to the pathway to the main entrance of the house. The rocks and the underplantings compliment the rough texture of these accent plants.

Governor’s rapids Tourism Masterplan Quirino P rov ince , P h ilip pi n e s The Local Government Unit of Quirino was planning to open the province and expand its economic opportunities through tourism. Together with the University of the Philippines Planning and Development Research Foundation (UP PLANADES), the Quirino Tourism Masterplan was created.

Part of the masterplan is the creation of linked adventure spots along the Governor’s Rapids. Each point target different adventure experience which based mostly on the existing character of the area.

The whole stretch of the Governor’s Rapids will have 5 connected points. The Common Area, or the culmination point, is proposed to have the main office, hammock houses, outdoor exhibit area, restaurants, adventure park, VIP hotel (to be called as Governor’s View Point), and a hanging bridge connected to the other mountain across the river.

Points A and B are the specified locations of docking areas for tubing and boating, respectively. These locations have observation towers, parking, and control offices.

Metro Manila is an interesting megalopolis for urban study. Important data overlayed in a map can present ways for more effective urban planning.

The data used for these maps were extracted from Google Earth and OpenStreet maps. GIS data from Philippine GIS website were then used to compare the current situation of Metro Manila. These were then processed and analyzed using QGIS. These Metro Manila maps were initially submitted as part of a class project. They were further submitted to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority for their proposed greening project in the year 2017. The maps were also used in a research paper and co-authored with L.Archt. Nappy Navarra, which was presented in the 2017 Urban Resiliency Forum.

Peri-Urban Landscape With the growing population in Metro Manila, several studies are being conducted in its adjacent provinces. These adjacent provinces fall under the Peri-Urban Landscapes studied by L.Archt. Desiree Nadal. The data from OpenStreet map and Philippine GIS database were used to create these base maps for her PhD thesis submitted to the University of Edinburgh, London.

C a m p u s Planning GIS data can be a vital part of a planning project. De La Salle University - Sta Rosa Campus is a new project and is envisioned to be a next-generation university in South Luzon. It is aiming to achieve a BERDE Certification thus the planning of its remaining land is vital to achieving this goal.

These maps were created from integrating CAD drawings to QGIS to come up with analysis maps.

These were further used for geological studies and reference for possible build-up areas.

The hydrological analysis of the campus was taken into consideration to maximize the existing terrain.

This was also used in planning where to put the botanical garden and rainwater harvesting facility.

Business development

The real estate industry in the Philippines is consistently thriving through the years. The competition between developers is growing but the land suitable for development is limited.

These maps were part of the expansion strategy of one of the leading real estate developers in the Philippines, Filinvest Land. The 5-year plan will study the locations of future and ongoing infrastructure projects within Mega Manila. That includes provinces of Bulacan, Pampanga, Rizal, Laguna, and Cavite. From this study, a 100% approval rate was given to more than 20 raw land properties targeted to be acquired.

Flip.A.Map is a mapping business wherein maps are aesthetically customized for decorative purposes.

This business also caters to maps for research, clothing patterns, and other graphic designs.
