A Loreto Normanhurst education prepares our students to respond to the needs of the world. Their academic pursuits and the practical application of the holistic education that they gain through the Loreto Normanhurst Student Growth Model will shape the world we live in, and we look forward to seeing the impact of their education continue to unfold.

We celebrate and recognise the growth of all students across each element of the FACE curriculum (Faith, Academic, Community, Extracurricular) each year. Every student from Years 5-12 achieves growth in these key areas, and we are proud of their efforts as they continually strive to achieve their own personal bests.

It takes a village of people for success to exist parents who love and encourage, friends who support and accept, and staff who inspire and challenge our students to achieve their very best by encouraging a life-long love of learning.

In my first few moments as an official student at Loreto Normanhurst, I sensed that there was something special about being a Loreto girl, a Normo girl. And there is.

to mention just a few. Perhaps it’s the genuine conversations with my tutor, or the teachers who cared so much about my learning and wellbeing, or engaging with advocates for refugees and activists for climate change, or maybe it’s chatting to my peers in the line to the bubbler, dancing in the Quad at Wednesday Long Recess, or singing the song that is the bell for the week.

Loreto Normanhurst is a place that is unique in its sincerity and joy even in the little things of everyday life. From smiles in the corridors from girls and teachers, to unpacking causes that embody the values of our school, Normo is an environment in which love is at the centre of every exciting aspect of our school. Love for learning and for our friends, love in the pride for our school and in caring for those on the fringes of society. Love is the core of all Loreto values, celebrations in the school and in every relationship that is formed.

What I do know is that as a Loreto girl, I experienced a community that is special in its sincerity, joy and support for each other.

Over my time at Normo, I tried things I didn’t think I would be good at, but worked out I wasn’t so bad at them after all. I also thought I’d be good at a few things and quickly realised that there are girls who are just as good, if not better at the same things. What this taught me was to give new things a go and to keep trying as I worked out where my interests were. At Normo we were all encouraged to take these risks.

Sincerity is celebrated in every girl’s strengths and struggles and in their striving to learn from mistakes.

When I left the gates of Loreto Normanhurst for the last time as a student, I didn’t know the opportunities and challenges I will experience in the world as an adult, but I did know that my time at Normo has prepared me well and that it will stay with me forever - ‘once a Loreto girl, always a Loreto girl’.

There were so many wonderful things about my time at Loreto that I’ll remember, that it’s hard

Boarding at Loreto Normanhurst was a wonderful experience, bringing together girls from many different places. Living in the boarding community, constantly surrounded by other Loreto girls, taught me both the patience and skills necessary to live and work with others, whilst also generating a range of wonderful memories and fostering glorious friendships.

My holistic education at Loreto Normanhurst prepared me to approach situations with greater understanding.

I was encouraged to be involved in a variety of subjects and activities, striving to create a balance between my academic studies, extracurricular involvement and giving back to the community.

I am so grateful for the strong Loreto values and the vibrant community that were ever-present during my education which helped me graduate emboldened with a swag of priceless memories and first-class friends.

Loreto taught me to realise and appreciate that although important, academics and the HSC results are not everything - something which the FACE curriculum (faith, academic, community, extra-curricular) at Loreto Normanhurst recognises. I am extremely grateful for my Loreto education as it allowed me to holistically explore, grow and learn through the FACE curriculum and the strong values and inspiration of our foundress Mary Ward.

Becoming a boarder at Loreto Normanhurst was a big decision for my family and me. I moved at the beginning of Year 10 and through the support and care of both the girls and boarding staff I slotted right into Loreto life. The thing I loved most about being a boarder was the strong sense of community. Loreto truly became a home away from home for me where I was able to reach my full potential and develop into the individual I am today while being surrounded by the support of my closest friends and boarding staff. Boarding at Loreto provided me with countless opportunities which I otherwise would not have had access to and for this I am so thankful.

I have fond memories playing sports such as netball at school, and I also value and appreciate my time spent volunteering at organisations such as Exodus. The sense of community within Loreto, particularly within the Boarding School, has shaped the person I am today and prepared me for life outside the school gates.

Barry House is where I made some of my first friends and memories at Loreto. The House community holds a bond like no other and I found my tutor group to be a great way to make connections and build friendships with girls from all year groups. I believe that attending an allgirls school was so valuable for me and I found Loreto to be a safe environment where I was able to be myself, try new things and excel with the support of likeminded strong women around me.

In 2016, my family and I made a life-changing decision for me to move to Sydney from Hong Kong, to become a boarder at Loreto Normanhurst. The warm and welcoming nature of Normo girls and staff allowed me to quickly adapt to a foreign culture and environment.

Loreto opened a lot of experiences which I would not have had access to in my home country.

Taking on my role as Boarder Vice-Captain was one of my greatest experiences, despite how daunting it seemed initially. This role was so good in pushing me beyond my comfort zone, as well as teaching me to believe in myself. A lot of the opportunities I had as Boarder Vice-Captain allowed me to learn what it means to be a good leader. Looking back now, some of the best memories of Year 12 have stemmed from my leadership of the Boarding School.

Commitment weekend at the start of the year was always the best and girls from different year groups mixed together which allowed me to make great friends with many different girls.

My introduction to meditation throughout my school years also helped me to deal with study pressure, to put life into perspective, and become more positive and solve problems.

The best part of my Loreto education was making and maintaining strong relationships with others that are underpinned by our Loreto values. As a Year 12 leader, it was important that I had positive relationships with all students and staff and to connect with others about their faith.

The Kendall House community was a source of pride and comfort for me. Being a part of a close-knit community within the greater school community and actively participating in House activities and other inter-House events encouraged a strong a sense of camaraderie and pride for me. Furthermore, the support that my tutor group and my tutor gave me was immeasurable; I’m sure that many Kendall girls will agree with me when I say that their tutor group was like a second family.

As such, I took part in a multitude of extracurricular and community-related activities, while also striving for academic success.

Loreto is a supportive environment that embraces the power of femininity and I was able to grow in self-confidence and learn to appreciate my self-worth. I was exposed to the need for educated and privileged women to embrace their talents and voices to stand up for other women and help them feel valued and certain of their capabilities.

The holistic learning approach through the Loreto Normanhurst Student Growth Model (LNSGM) and FACE curriculum (faith, academic, community, extra-curricular) significantly shaped my pursuit for excellence as it kept me motivated throughout my schooling life, particularly through my final year at Loreto. By engaging in extra-curricular activities, community service and my own personal faith traditions, I was taught the importance of determination and patience in my future university and career life.

I was extremely fortunate to have teachers who supported me and strove to maximise my full potential. Moving into Year 12 was a big step up in terms of academic demands, but my teachers always took time out of their busy days to ensure that I thoroughly understood the content and that I was consistently improving. The best part of my Loreto education was the teachers who would go above and beyond to ensure that I was equipped with the best knowledge to tackle my HSC and life beyond the school gates.

Attending an all-girls school also meant I was surrounded by talented girls within an inspirational learning environment.

My House community was a warm and nurturing place where I was able to learn so much from girls both younger and older than me. It allowed me to form really special friendships with many girls and I would always look forward to House time.

I participated in many faith, social justice and extra-curricular activities at Loreto which provided me with invaluable experiences and enabled me to form many new connections and friendships. This helped me to develop into a more confident and well-rounded young woman. The FACE curriculum (faith, academic, community, extra-curricular) allowed me to maintain a sense of perspective and balance during the HSC, which encouraged me and will continue to remind me to stay true to the Loreto values of verity, social justice and sincerity. The FACE curriculum further provided an outlet from the challenges of the HSC and helped with my time management which also contributed greatly to my pursuit of not only achieving my best academically, but to continue growing and developing into a well-rounded person.

My House community was an integral part of my Loreto experience. I felt a strong sense of family, camaraderie and community within my House, which provided a positive outlet from the daily rigours of school and further contributed to a well-rounded education.

Through House time activities, carnivals, tutor group and advisory groups, I was able to form connections with girls from different year groups, between which we could all share our unique experiences and advice.

The Loreto Normanhurst Student Growth Model (LNSGM) allowed me to excel in what I loved and what I was good at, but also encouraged me to take opportunities in other areas to further my personal growth. Throughout my journey at Loreto, I knew that my friends, teachers, tutors and advisors would always be there to support me through any challenges.

I was elected as the House Captain of Kendall in 2019 and I was honoured to work with such an amazing and energetic group of girls who were so enthusiastic and caring of their House and each other. The care and support from the tutors and advisors was so important as they watched me grow from Year 7 and were there for my entire school journey.

I was lucky enough to represent Loreto at a national level in cross country running several times, which was an experience that I will never forget, and the constant support from my peers, teachers and other staff helped me find a balance between my academic learning and my extra-curricular pursuits which increased my performance and interest in all my undertakings.

The spirit of Normo thrives when students are not embarrassed to show commitment and excitement in everything that they do. I always found that when I let go of inhibitions and welcomed the Normo spirit, I got more out of it.
