Volume 2 - August 9, 2011 Dear Parents and Students A Piece of Light As the sun rose, it filled me until I thought I was all light and there was nothing left of what I once called ME. Then suddenly I saw below at the water’s edge another sister of light. My light streamed out to her. Her light flowed back to me and we were one in the light. Macrina Wiederkehr There is a piece of light in all of us . . . . seen or unseen, the light is there, ready to kindle, eager to expand, refusing to be tightly contained. As soon as the tiniest space is allowed it quickly emerges, floods outward, illuminating the darkest of places. One single candle lights a little dark space. Many candles light a world full of people desperately in need of each other’s glow. Each lone light makes us stronger when we all stand together. Joyce Rupp And so it is we pray in thanksgiving for the light we each bring and the strength we gain from each other’s light. Amen. FLOOD RELIEF I congratulate and thank the school community for their enormous efforts over many months. Because of your generosity and “light” we have been able to donate: Books and educational equipment to Milpera State High School (a flood affected school committed to educating and assisting many refugees and unaccompanied minors); $3,250.00 to the Grantham Community Flood Fund; $4,000 to the St Francis of Assisi Conference of St Vincent de Paul, West End (servicing many flood affected areas of Brisbane); and Student voluntary time to St Vincent de Paul, Sumner Park, assisting them with the sorting of volumes of donated goods. Additionally, we will be collecting hamper goods over the next few weeks for donation to St Fabian’s Conference of St Vincent de Paul, Yeronga, because sadly there are still many families in the surrounding areas greatly in need of basic daily food and household supplies. The senior leaders will co-ordinate the hamper collections via home classes. We thank you for your continued support. DADS AND DAUGHTERS: DATE CLAIMER On Friday September 2 (the Friday before Fathers’ Day) the P&F are proudly sponsoring a Father-Daughter Breakfast. The breakfast for Dads and their daughters will commence at 7.00am by the pool. We look forward to strong support, in the hope that this celebration may become an eagerly anticipated event on the Loreto yearly calendar.
