Volume 5 - August 30, 2011 Dear Parents and Students In the context of our Ignatian spirituality and the spirit of Felicity I invite you to pray with me the Optimist’s Creed.

The Optimist’s Creed . . . we pray . . . To be strong so that nothing can disturb our peace of mind. To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person we meet. To make all our friends feel that there is something in them. To look at the sunny side of everything and make our optimism come true. To think only of the best, to work only for the best, and to expect only the best. To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as we are about our own. To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future. To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every creature we meet a smile. To give so much time to improvement of ourselves that we have no time to criticise others. To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble. Certainly, Mary Ward did not write this prayer but we know, with utter confidence, she lived it. We thus pray for the Grace to be optimistic, grateful and loving. Each day and every moment is a gift for which we give thanks. Amen. In this spirit of optimism and hope we hold our Year 12 students especially in our prayers this week. May they sit their QCS tests confidently and calmly knowing that they are well placed to give their best. THANK-YOU I am delighted to share with you this letter of thanks from the St Francis of Assisi SVDP conference at West End. Dear Mrs Hamilton On behalf of our conference, I would like to thank you and everyone at Loreto College for your very generous donation of $4000 to flood affected families in Fairfield and West End. It is wonderful that the Loreto community has kept them in your thoughts for so long. Even though it is eight months since the floods there are still lots of people who are waiting to return to their homes or, if they have returned, still have important things that they need to repair or replace. With Loreto’s donation we will be able to help with things like replacing children’s beds, replacing unstable front steps and finishing electrical repairs. As a conference we have been very humbled by the generosity that people have shown and also by the courage shown by the affected people that we have met. Thank you once again to everyone at Loreto for their donations and their prayers. Tony O’Connor This week and next we continue our “goods drive” to collect basic household items that are still needed by many families who continue in their struggle to recover from the January floods. I thank you for your ongoing generosity and support. This is just one of the many ways that each of us can make a difference. Thank you.
