Volume 6 - 6 March, 2012 Dear Parents and Students Lord of the Dance, Invite me to dance. Lead the way. Teach me the steps And I will follow you. Twirl me around wildly Or do a slow glide. Whatever the form I will remain in step, Heeding the gestures Of your graced movement. Today, may the Lord of the Dance Lead me. Amen. (Sydney B Carter)

With a sense of great anticipation we eagerly await this week‘s sell-out performances of GREASE. From Helen Radvan, Director & Executive Producer, “This glorious, upbeat musical is about hope, joy and optimism and a belief that if we stick together we can work out our problems even when they seem insuperable. Working with over 100 young people as performers, dancers, musicians, artists and crew is bound to be a logistical challenge, but with so much positive support from our communities we’ve been able to keep the focus on having fun even as we work hard.” Congratulations to everyone involved and best wishes for the week ahead. Thanks to staff from both schools with particular and special thanks to Mrs Radvan, Mr Swanson, Mrs Nielson and Mrs Herft from the Loreto staff for their leadership, enthusiasm, energy and effort.

Year 11 Semi-Formal I was delighted to attend this year‘s semi-formal with the girls and their partners. The evening was most enjoyable. It is always a special treat to see the girls looking so gorgeous and so happy and excited. They were gracious (and glamorous) hosts who seemed to utterly enjoy the moment. As always, I was very proud of them. Thanks to the staff, and especially Mrs Meecham, for their support.

Sports Department News CSGSSA SWIMMING CARNIVAL A reminder that Monday, 12 March is the Catholic Girls’ Swimming Carnival at Chandler. All Year 8 and 12 students will be attending to support our Swim Team. This is a wonderful opportunity for Big Sisters and Little Sisters to get to know each other and for Year 12 students to induct Year 8 students into some important Loreto traditions, such as the College war cry. Attendance is compulsory on this day as on any other. Students who do attend feel very let down by other students who stay away without valid reason. We would like this to be an occasion to build community rather than damage it. All non-attendance will be checked. Students are not to bring magazines, or electronic devices such as IPods. They will be fully engaged in cheering on our swimmers. Dress for the day for spectators is perfect formal school uniform – hat is not required. Students in the swim team will receive a letter with specific details regarding events, uniform, arrival and departure times. All students should bring food and plenty of water. Only very limited canteen facilities will be available for a short time. Students will be travelling to and from the carnival by bus. No student will be able to leave from Chandler unless she brings a parental note to Ms Carty beforehand and a parent is there to collect them by 2.00pm. If you have any further questions please don‘t hesitate to contact me. Round 3 Results: What can I say – WOW! Another round of impressive Volleyball, recording 5 out 6 wins and despite losing, our Open A team produced their best performance of the season. Top work, Girls! Open A The Open A team this week played two games to make up for a rescheduled game. They started the week strongly with a win against Stuartholme at Stuartholme. This was all in preparation for the potentially hardest game of the season against the division‘s top rated side, All Hallows‘ College on Wednesday. Despite the fact the girls played extremely well, having a near 100% serving game and some excellent plays in both attack and defence, they just missed out on a win in a close and hard fought game. Special mention must firstly go to Eloise Jackson who returned from illness to be one of the strongest and most consistent players on court in both games. Open C - BYE Junior A A close game this week for the Junior A, only just taking out the win. They fought the whole game to take out the win while showing outstanding sportsmanship! Mia Page and Erin Stafford‘s serving pushed us over the line. Special mention must go to Wade Bilton for being our strongest backcourt player for the week. Keep fighting hard this season girls. Junior B A great game from the Junior B‘s this week with a convincing win over St Rita‘s 3 sets to 0. The girls are really starting to get the idea of playing as a team and there was lots of constructive communication on court. Kelsey Ahrens, Kate Hutchins and Julia Logan were solid with their dependable passing to girls on the net and Kate O‘Sullivan, Georgia Johnson and Georgia Garrett did some impressive offensive hits when the ball was delivered to them. Fantastic work to all girls who tried over-head serving for the first time in a game situation, your confidence paid off.

Junior D This game was played well and in good spirits by both teams. It was a back and forward game with Mt St Michael ‘s started strongly winning the first 20 points or so of the match and taking out the first set. However, the Loreto girls re-grouped and won the next two sets. Nikki Foley and Kassidy Graham are to be congratulated on their brilliant serving in the second and third sets. Well done, Girls, Great result. Junior E A truly spirited performance in the game against this highly fancied All Hallows‘ team! The first set was level pegging until our opponents served the first set out with deep, penetrating serves. The second set was a real tussle which could have gone either way, but with some strong serving and accurate passing from the team, particularly from Jessica Galpin, we won it 28-26. Then: the deciding third set. We were down by 5 points in this first-to-15 set, early in the set, but came back to take it convincingly 15-11. A wonderful fight back! Junior F Well done to the Jnr F who played really well together. Communication on court and applying pressure to the opposition were some crucial factors in this convincing 2 sets to 1 victory. Congratulations to Mia Munch and Zoe McNamee on their precision serving. Kirsty Gore – Volleyball Coordinator
