Volume 2 - 3 February, 2015 Dear Parents & Students It was my privilege over the weekend to spend time in Melbourne attending the National Loreto Province Assembly with many Loreto sisters and their “wider circle of friends” such as Loreto Principals, Chairs of Council and the National Education Council Board members. Set your hearts on his Kingdom first, and on God’s saving justice, and all these other things will be given you as well. Matthew 6:33 The purpose of this meeting was to report back to the Australian and South East Asia Province on the “calls” that came from the International IBVM General Congregation (GC) held at Loyola in Spain in September last year. These are the five “calls” that the GC discerned: As Mary Ward companions moved by the person of Jesus and the needs of our world today we seek to:
Reclaim the freshness of the Gospel, allowing Jesus to transform our lives.
Bring those forced to live in poverty to the centre of our life and ministry.
Go where the need is greatest.
Live sustainably, discerning what is enough.
Create the oneness that moves us across boundaries.
Acknowledging vulnerability and fragility we turn to Jesus knowing that “. . . all we need we will find in Him.” Mary Ward
As a Mary Ward community, all of those involved in and connected with our school are invited to take up these calls to action in “seeking truth and doing justice.”
Another important aspect to come out of the International General Congregation of the IBVM was the adoption of an IBVM “Corporate Stance” on Human Trafficking which reads:
