Volume 22 - 30 July, 2014 Dear Parents and Students Gracious God, Look in mercy on all to whom great sorrow has come. Console and protect those who have lost loved ones. Strengthen those who minister to the grieving. Give your light in darkness to all who are near despair, And assure them that you hold all souls in life. Amen. (Prayer from the Airport Ministry team at Schiphol Airport, Amsterdam) For me the most powerful and poignant words that have been shared with the world in the aftermath of the devastating MH17 tragedy are those of Anthony Maslin and Rin Norris: “No hate in the world is as strong as the love we have for our children, for Mo, for Evie, for Otis. No hate in the world is as strong as the love we have for Grandad Nick. No hate in the world is as strong as the love we have for each other. This is the revelation that gives us some comfort. . . . . This expression of love is what is keeping us alive.” “No hate in the world is as strong as the love we have.” In the face of such profound and indescribable grief, love sustains and nourishes. In this there is hope. May the world of love be the light that prevails. Amen.
CATHOLIC EDUCATION WEEK The Act of Kindness is a hallmark activity of Catholic Education Week. It provides a great opportunity to give witness to the message of Jesus and the mission of the Church beyond the school curriculum. The Act of Kindness highlights the Gospel values of justice, compassion and kindness. It helps promote a sense of community responsibility that is at the heart of the ethos of Catholic education. By participating in an act of kindness simultaneously, schools across the State can also highlight to the wider community the justice values that Catholic schools strive to live out. The activity serves as a tangible link uniting our Catholic education communities and helps each student to know they are part of a ‘bigger picture’. Together, we have the ability to bring about a real difference in the lives of others. To demonstrate this unified activity, our seniors are encouraging the student body to show an act of kindness this week.
