Dear Parents and Students Last Friday, the College held its annual Mission Day – a day of fun, dance, song, food and spirit. Thank you and congratula ons to all those students and staff who worked so hard in prepara on for this event and to parents who provided extra pocket money to be spent in a good cause. In par cular, I would like to acknowledge our Year 12 students who led many of the Mission Day ac vi es. Their dedica on and crea vity are simply wonderful. The final amount of money raised on the day was $8338.50 which will be used to support Mary Ward Interna onal and projects for Catholic Missions, par cularly St Anthony’s Orphanage in Zambia.

STUDENT ILLNESS During the last week, there have many students quite ill with a range of ‘flus and other viruses. Can I stress to parents and students the importance of students staying home when they are unwell. I know that the girls are under pressure with assessment and approaching exams, but con nuing to come to school rather than staying home to rest simply prolongs illness and encourages its spread amongst others. We have two students with confirmed diagnoses of swine flu which further highlights the importance of staying at home when sick. Please contact your daughter’s Year Coordinator if she needs to be away for a number of days or needs to arrange extensions or changes to assessment. Can I remind parents of the requirement to telephone the school if your daughter will be absent and to provide medical cer ficates if she is away for assessment.

PRAYERS AND CONDOLENCES Please keep Mrs Cheryl Hamilton and her husband Ian close to your hearts this week. Mrs Hamilton’s beloved mother‐in‐law, Mrs Rae Hamilton, passed away last Thursday night in Newcastle. We also offer condolences to Mr John McKinley and his family as they mourn the loss of his father‐in‐law, Mr Maurie Cock, who died last Friday. We are conscious of the many students, staff members and families who are struggling with bereavement and sickness at this me. To all of these people, we offer prayers and support. Thank you to the many people who have expressed concern and sent good wishes to Mrs Kerry Williams since her accident 2 ½ weeks ago. I am delighted to tell you that Mrs Williams con nues to make good progress in her recovery and has begun 3 – 4 weeks of rehabilita on. She has sent the following message of apprecia on to her students ‐ A word of thanks and extreme apprecia on for the way you have all sent your good wishes to me since my rather confron ng accident. Your words and thoughts mean so much to me. I have a fractured cranium, broken ribs and some muscular injuries. I am determined to regain my health and come back to you as soon as I can. I may need assistance with a new hair style as my neurosurgeon had no skills at all in this department! I will return when I can and I love your prayers and support. Intermediate D ‐ Congratula ons to the Intermediate D Junior A ‐ For the first match of the trimester the 8A's team for their first win of the season. The girls defeated All versed Mt St Michael's in a challenging game. The girls Hallows 22‐7 with some outstanding shoo ng from Hannah showed great enthusiasm and fought all the way to the end, Dalton, great defence by Claudia Mio and skillful ball handling from Sarah King. Personal Style Workshop for Girls in Year 10 to be held at Loreto College
Dates and Times for 2011 Monday afternoons 3.30pm to 6.00pm July 25th August 1st, 8th and 15th COST: $105 all‐inclusive Diploma presented to each student. Notes given for each class. All make‐up and products used in class are supplied.
The Course Content has been designed to build self confidence and make girls realise that they can be successful in every walk of life. DEPORTMENT: Correct method shown for sitting, standing, walking and stairs. Each girl is individually assessed and videoed and then advised how carry her body with style and grace. MAKE‐UP: An individual make‐up will be done in class and each girl will be shown how to apply products for her particular features. SKIN CARE: A skin care procedure is done in class for each student, using products to suit the individual skin type. HAIR CARE: Knowledge of hair care is taught so students can care for their hair professionally at home. NAIL CARE: Manicure done in class plus hand and feet care. TABLE MANNERS: Guidelines to follow on all occasions for both social and business life. TOP TO TOE GROOMING: Girls are taught to improve their overall appearance and appreciate that the way they project themselves to others does matter.

Families are asked to provide all meals and a friendly home for their student They will travel to and from school each day the same way as arranged for your own children
Yes, I would like to host a Japanese student, but… Will the student speak any English? Yes. However, as their English skills may be limited, we would ask that you speak clearly and slowly (but not in a patronising way) when communicating with them. Will I have to cook Japanese food for the student? No. Your Japanese student is here to experience an Australian lifestyle. This includes spending mealtimes with your family, and eating what you and your family normally eat. Is it OK if the parent/s work fulltime? Yes. During these times (e.g. after school), your Japanese student can spend time with your own children. Families who live near each other are encouraged to share transport, or other activities outside of school. Do we need Blue Cards? No. Blue Cards are only necessary if you are a hosting a student for more than 10 days.

On set: Totally Wild Dear Guitar Ensemble One Parent, The Channel 10 TV show “Totally Wild”, having seen Guitar Ensemble’s photo and story in the Courier Mail, would like to do a feature segment on the group. They will be coming out to Loreto to film this segment on Wednesday 8 June from 9 am to 12 pm. While this date IS in the middle of the upcoming exam block, it is also a student free day and so we are hoping it will not prove disrup ve. There will be 5 or 10 minutes perusal for all exams during which time READING ONLY is permitted (no writing materials are to be used). EXTRA TIME students assemble outside the ET room 407 by 8.30am and 12.30pm on June 3rd, 6th,7th and 9th. Rolls will be marked in the exam room. EXTRA TIME on June 10th, 14th and 15th will be in 511/513. There is no extra time allowed for QCS papers on June 15th and 16th. Normal school rules apply. You may leave the grounds only to go home.
