It was my pleasure to announce at this afternoon’s assembly that our College Co-Captains for 2016 are AISLIND BELL and ISABELLE ORAZIO. We wish them every success. WELCOME Today we warmly welcomed to Loreto 150 Year 6 girls for their orientation to Year 7 next year. It was wonderful to have them here with us for the day where they enjoyed participation in classes such as Japanese, French, German, Chinese, Art, Science, Drama, Home Economics, Sport and Music. The students seem to really enjoy their first experience of being a Loreto girl and are very excited about the year ahead. NEW GLOBAL SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS
The world’s leaders have committed to 17 new ‘ Global Sustainable Development Goals’ aimed at achieving three BIG things in the next 15 years:
To end extreme poverty;
To fight inequality and injustice; and
To address climate change.
These 17 goals were endorsed by Foreign Minister Julie Bishop, on behalf of Australia, in New York on 25 September. These new goals replace the Millennium Development Goals set in 2000. Since the first goals were set in 2000, extreme poverty in our world has halved. Oxfam Australia and UNICEF Australia are now seeking input from students in Australia to share with world leaders why these goals matter.
