Volume 8 - 19 March, 2013 Dear Parents and Students

It is with a certain sense of hope and an cipa on we welcome the news of the elec on of Pope Francis 1. We pray that his leadership will bring people closer to God through his teaching, his example, his stewardship and his inspira on. May the prayer of St Francis guide us all as we strive to be followers of Christ in all we do.

Lord Make Me an Instrument of Thy Peace

Where there is hate that I may bring love,

Where there is offence that I may bring pardon,

Where there is discord that I may bring union,

Where there is error that I may bring truth,

Where there is doubt that I may bring faith,

Where there is despair that I may bring hope,

Where there is darkness that I may bring light,

Where there is sadness that I may bring joy.

O Master, make us not so much to be consoled

as to console; not so much to be loved as to love;

not so much to be understood as to understand;

for it is in giving that one receives; it is in

self‐forge ulness that one finds oneself; it is in pardoning

that one is pardoned; and it is in dying that one finds eternal life.

RETREATS AT LORETO As I prepare for our annual Loreto Principal’s Retreat, this year being held here in Queensland, I offer this reflec on prepared by Mr Kieran Donnelly – Deputy Principal Religion. The Loreto College Retreat Programme is an integral component of the Religious Educa on provided by the College. In each year level the retreat programme focuses upon the areas of self, others and God. These are the three focal points around which each Retreat is designed. On each occasion a student has the opportunity to deepen her rela onship with God. The Retreat’s par cular experiences of community, prayer, liturgy, reflec on and engagement with crea on are designed to draw students into an awareness of themselves and others as spiritual people longing for God. The Retreat aims to lead students into a deeper understanding of, and thanksgiving for, themselves as God’s crea on, others made in God’s image and God who is love.
