On Sunday, we paused as a na on to remember those who have died in past and present conflicts. During the Remembrance Day Ceremony in Canberra, 102 school children laid poppies to represent the 102,000 Australian service men and women whose precious lives have been lost.

We pay our deepest respects to these brave men and women, to their families and to those today whose lives are at risk in the service of this country.

PARENT SPORT SUPPORT GROUP Interested parents are warmly invited to join the Parent Sport Support Group in the Mary Ward Centre at 7.30pm tonight in launching their charter so that important plans can be made for the year ahead.

YEAR 12 GRADUATION This Friday we celebrate with the Year 12’s and their families the marvellous occasion of their Gradua on from Loreto.

To mark this significant and important occasion we will hold an Award Ceremony during the school day (at 11.00am) in order that the whole school can be present. Parents and other family members are, as always, most welcome to a end.

Fi ngly, we complete the ceremonies with a Gradua on Mass to be held in the Mary Ward Centre on Friday night at 7.30pm. I look forward to the celebra on immensely and hope to see many of you there as we offer prayers of gra tude and thanks for all that has been and prayers of hope for all that is yet to come.

VISIT FROM MR K RUDD Mr Kevin Rudd, Federal Member for Griffith, visited the College on Friday to officially congratulate the 2013 Captains on a aining their new posi ons of leadership and to discuss further the students’ ini a ves for 2013.

The first stop was an enthusias c class of Year 11 Economic students, where they discussed topical issues including the Government’s stance on refugees, religion, economics and ethics.

Mr Rudd was impressed with the College’s focus on studying languages other than English and concurred that the op ons of being able to study French, Japanese and German would certainly be beneficial to the students’ futures.

Mr Rudd validated the importance of Religious Studies within today’s society and encouraged the girls to, ‘never apologise for who they are’.

The former Foreign Affairs Minister reiterated the value of maintaining religious tradi on, acceptance and tolerance of all religious beliefs, confirming, “We are all shaped by personal beliefs and values.”

When mee ng with Mr Rudd, the 2013 student leadership team spoke of the plans to mark the Year of Jus ce.

2013 College Captains Laura Sclavos and Emmaline‐Kate Ball said they are most looking forward to living out their new mo o, Loreto 2013 ‐ Dare to Dream. The Captains said they hope to introduce an inaugural fundraising event, Walking with Water for Women.

Mr Rudd embraced the students’ sugges ons commen ng “(I believe) the benefits of fundraising and ge ng youth involved with the community and disadvantaged is engaging. The happiest people in the world are always those giving of themselves. It’s fulfilling.”

We thank Mr Rudd for his me and his support.

CONDOLENCES To Anna Cooke (Year 12) and her family on the recent passing of her beloved Grandmother. May she rest lovingly in God’s eternal peace. Amen.

Results Online With less than two weeks until the final date for Year 12 attendance, it is important that students to log into their learning accounts now to ensure that their personal details and mailing addresses are recorded correctly. Any errors should be reported to the school or relevant learning provider.

Results Online All Year 12 students with a valid LUI and password can access their final results and OP in their learning account via the Student Connect website from 9:00 am Saturday 15 December. Senior Education Profiles will arrive in the post from Monday 17 December.

The only students who will be able to wear the old blue shorts and gold polo shirt in 2013 will be Year 12s whose only sporting commitment is their one lesson of Core PE each week. All students in Years 8 - 11 and Year 12s involved in inter-school sport must wear the new blue shorts and blue/gold polo shirt. Similarly, the old tracksuit should be longer be worn; the new, all blue tracksuit is now required.

`âá|v axãá Music and Graduation Mass Singers and instrumentalists for the Graduation Mass are asked to arrive at the MWC no later than 7 pm on November 16.

The Mass will conclude by 9 pm. Musicians may leave then or choose to stay for the awards ceremony and supper which follow the Mass. Girls should be dressed in full school uniform with no make-up. Remember to bring your music.

Music Auditions Results of the Music Auditions for 2013 have now been posted on the Music Noticeboard. Letters have been sent to Year 7 students to advise them of their placements. Invitations to the 2013 Music Camp will be issued shortly.

c9 Y axãá Thank you Kerri Fowler It is appropriate to recognise the contribution of Kerri Fowler who leaves the P&F this year after five years as an active member. Among other activities, Kerri was a year level representative for all of that time, coordinated all year level reps for three years, actively assisted on the Dinner Dance Committee and organised functions for parents of current Year 12 students.

fÑÉÜàá WxÑtÜàÅxÇà axãá BSGSA Sport Basketball Round 8 Results The final round of matches produced some excellent wins, nail biting finishes and a premiership for one team. It was certainly a strong way to finish the season and I look forward to continued success and improvement in 2013!

Open A defeated Mt St Michael’s 53 - 19 to finish 5th A great way to finish a tough season with a dominating performance all round. Taili Beausang stood strong in defence; Anna Cooke hit a three point shot and produced several great lay ups; Lauren Roberts displayed excellent competitiveness for the ball and the remainder of the team gelled very well in their final match. A pleasing way for the leaving Year 12’s to finish. Well done!

Open B defeated Mt Alvernia 22 - 21 to finish 5th This was a very tight match with the winning goal being shot by Lauren Stacey in the last 5 seconds of the match. Awien Lee, Lauren Higgins and Helen O’Dougherty lead the way in attack with all players working tirelessly for the win. Certainly a strong way to finish the season which enabled players to improve their skills and better their understanding of rules and tactics.

Intermediate A were defeated by Mt St Michael’s 42 - 24 to finish 4th Due to illness and injury Loreto had only seven players available for the match and this enabled MSM to rotate their players more frequently and Loreto struggled to keep up with the pace of the game. Loreto worked hard in defence and all players contributed to the score. The better team won on the day, but Loreto should be very proud of their consistent and determined efforts.

Intermediate B defeated San Sisto 36 - 26 to finish 1st as undefeated premiers A perfect regular season plus a convincing grand final win! What a season of basketball for this talented group of Year 9 students’. Against a bigger and older opposition, these girls kept their heads, despite being down six nil in the opening minutes of the game. The match was even at half and three quarter time but Loreto dominated in the final ten minutes with excellent team work and a clever game plan. Well done to our undefeated premiers!

Junior A were defeated by All Hallows’ 41 - 39 to finish 2nd This was an amazing match that I was privileged to witness. Loreto had previously been beaten by 36 points by All Hallows’ just two weeks prior to the final. In a tight, tough tussle, Loreto gave it their all to hold a narrow lead on the undefeated All Hallows’ team. In the final quarter Loreto had a five point margin with three minutes to go but to their credit All Hallows’ hit back with two strong shots. The match finished in a deadlock and required extra time to sort out the winner. Loreto should be very proud of their efforts with every player lifting to play beyond her potential. Special mention to Vicky Flores-Rodriguez, Jess Galpin and Zoe Sever who played an entire match plus extra time. It was also pleasing to see such great sportsmanship from both teams at the end of the match. Well done, girls!

Junior B defeated All Hallows’ 31 - 12 to finish 3rd Loreto were clearly the stronger team and had beaten All Hallows’ on several previous encounters. It was pleasing to see them play so well in their final match of the season and display improved skills and team work. Alyse Harris, Sophie Freedman and Alexandra White lead the way in attack scoring several baskets each.

Finally, I would like to thank the coaches for the dedication, commitment and knowledge they have given to all players throughout the season. We say a big thank you to Samuel Minken (Open A), Margaux Page (Open B), Caitlin Finn (Intermediate A), Jacqui Gold (Intermediate B), Paula Daniels (Junior A) and Briony Logan (Junior B). I would also like to thank all the players for the commitment to basketball this season and for the excellent manner in which they have represented Loreto during the eight weeks of competitive basketball. Our overall results indicate that we have good strength coming through in the younger grades and we need to continue to build upon this development in the future. The season would also not have been as successful without the help of Mrs Angela Waite who has organised home matches, filled in for coaches on occasions and supported me in overall running of the season. Mrs Jane Wilkinson and Mrs Meg Stevens have been crucial behind the scenes in overall organisational planning .To Isabella Mammone and Kristina Sams, our two basketball captains for 2012, thank you for all your assistance throughout this season and your commitment to Loreto basketball for the past five years. Well done, girls! It is with great enthusiasm I look forward to the 2013 season!

Results for Week 5 Under 14’s The girls won their first game against St Peter’s 6 – 5. It was a brilliant game with a very strong defence. The girls did particularly well considering they had no reserves.

Coach: Oliver Chambers Under 15’s The Loreto Warriors defeated Mt St Michael’s 20 to 4. The girls put their plan into action. Swimming with the ball and shooting to the sides of the goal allowed them to gain a massive lead in the first half. A special mention to Zoe McNamee for her tremendous improvement. The girls really worked as a team and played hard on the day.

The Junior(3) team, who have improved enormously since the beginning of the season, gained a hard fought 3 - 2 win against a determined Our Lady's team. Aislind Bell and Julia Beiers made valuable ground with their deceptive running, backed up by Gabby North with excellent rucking. Halle Wade and Georgia Stannard did not back down against bigger opponents and provided great defence to force the opposition into errors. Well done Jessica Aitken, Julia Beiers, Aislind Bell, Jessica Elliott, Georgia Fuller, Lauren Micahel, Gabbi North, Daniella Pham, Georgia Stannard, Bridie Volling, Halle Wade and Isabella Willmett.

Coach: Brian Beiers In summary, it has been an outstanding season with Loreto winning three of the four divisions we contested, third in two, a fourth and a seventh. My Captain, Bridget Sankey, led by example on and off the field every week. She was extremely helpful in organisation of each week’s games. A special thanks to all my coaches for their perceptive and astute coaching.

I also thank all teaching staff who ably assisted by being on the buses each week. Finally I extend sincere thanks to all parents who were able to watch their daughters play each week. Congratulations to all players!

Don’t let that special time pass without actively participating in their lives by playing a role at the school. You can do this in many ways, including nominating as a Parent Year Level Representative. Although the school year may be drawing to a close and thoughts turning to holidays, planning for next year is already underway. We are therefore now calling for nominations for 2013.

What does it involve? Parent Year Level Representatives generate community spirit by organising events such as drinks by the pool, dinner and other social events.
