Dear Parents and Students We con nue to hold in our hearts and prayers the pathway to full healing for Mrs Kerry Williams. May the love and the grace of our God enfold and embrace her, during her recovery. May the prayers of our loving community con nue to be with her family as they nurse her in her return journey to full health. WELCOME Last week we welcomed to Loreto our visi ng exchange students and teachers from Germany. They will be with us for two weeks in all. We very much enjoy this enriching opportunity to host such special visitors and we extend to them our very best wishes for an enjoyable ‘Aussie’ experience. Thank you to our host families for your generous support and all that you are doing to provide a ‘home away from home’ for these students. We also welcome to Loreto staff member Ms Zoey Grills, who will be joining the Drama department in Mrs Wiliams’ absence. I thank you for making her welcome. NATIONAL EDUCATION BOARD On Saturday, both Mr Sean Reidy (Chair of Council) and I spent me in Melbourne a ending a combined mee ng of Loreto Principals and Chairs of Council together with the Na onal Educa on Board. Whilst the main focus of the mee ng was to discuss ma ers related to ‘Governance’, we also considered various current na onal educa onal trends and perspec ves. The Na onal Educa on Board acts as an umbrella to support, connect and provide strategic governance to the na onal schools network, encouraging the schools and their councils to operate with discernment, ensuring good stewardship. In broad terms, the NEB is responsible for: Vision and Mission – Grounded in the values of Jesus, as expressed in the Gospel, and formed in a spirituality of reflec on, discernment and rela onship with God; Catholic Spirituality and Iden ty – Upholding integrity of our Mission; Development of the Educa on Community – Fostering co‐opera on, collabora on, awareness of both responsibili es and rights across the network; Leadership development – Encouraging all leaders to operate with discernment in the context of servant leadership; and Stewardship – Conduc ng, supervising and managing resources entrusted to personnel. YEAR 11 RETREAT I take this opportunity to wish the Year 11 students and their teachers all the very best for their upcoming Retreat. May this be an enriching me of personal reflec on and spiritual growth as they focus on the important themes of “self, others and God”. The retreat aims to lead students into a deeper understanding of, and thanksgiving for: themselves as God’s crea on; others made in God’s image; and God who is love. I ask the community to remember the Year 11’s especially in your prayers this week. NAPLAN This week our Year 9 students will par cipate in the annual Na onal Assessment Proficiency tes ng in Literacy and Numeracy. These tests, that take place over three days (Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday), assess in the five key areas of reading, wri ng, spelling, grammar and numeracy. We wish the girls well.

Public Speaking Sophie Garre (Year 12), Samantha Bull (Year 10), and Emily Taylor (Year 9) competed in the Brisbane/Ipswich finals of Rostrum Voice of Youth on Saturday 7th May at QUT Gardens Point. They were impressive speakers delivering well prepared and constructed speeches with confidence and convic on. It is a credit to the girls that they had progressed to this level in the compe on and I applaud their efforts, commitment and determina on. Special men on and congratula ons must go to Sophie Garre who won her final and will now compete in the State final at Moreton Bay College on Saturday 28th May at 2.00pm. Sophie's presence and challenging delivery certainly cap vated her audience. Fantas c effort! Sophie, Samantha and Emily were all quite wonderful on Saturday and I thank them for their involvement in this compe on. I was par cularly proud to be a member of the audience and so impressed with the quality of the speeches.

The German group arrived in Brisbane last Wednesday a ernoon and will stay at Loreto un l Tuesday 17th May. During this me, they will take part in cultural classes at school and visit Stradbroke Island, Australia Zoo and Sea World. The exchange also gives all our girls the opportunity to prac se their German with real German people! A group of Loreto students will pay a return visit to our German friends in November this year. The Young Ar sts in Residence Project is an opportunity for German Day ‐ Today we celebrated German Day at young theatre makers to work and play in a marquee venue with a professional theatre company. YAiR brings together a Loreto College. During Assembly, we were introduced to group of 15 to 18 year olds who have been cast from an open our German visitors.
